The Manhasset-Lakeville Water District will be installing a new water main within Stonytown Road between Gristmill Lane and Plandome Road. The new main will help eliminate fire flow deficiencies in the area. The work is scheduled to begin on March 23. Please keep in mind the following:
Traffic on Stonytown Road between Gristmill and Plandome will be limited to one lane for the duration of the project. If at all possible, Stonytown Road should be avoided during the project. Temporary traffic lights will be installed to coordinate the flow of traffic.
A new main will be installed under the Leeds Pond Culvert. The District is able to use a relatively new technique, directional drilling, for this aspect of the project. This technique reduces the impact of the work on the existing structures and minimizes traffic interruptions. The necessary equipment must remain on the roadway until the drill is complete. We expect the drilling portion of the work to last one week.
The project will require service interruptions; every effort will be made to provide consumers with twenty-four hour advance notice prior to their water being turned off.
During the course of the work you may experience slightly discolored water. The discoloration is not harmful and can usually be eliminated by flushing the cold water taps for several minutes. If you experience a persistent problem with discoloration please contact the District for assistance.
The main installation is expected to take three weeks. Please call our Superintendent at 466-4416 ext. 715 should you have any questions or concerns.
