Debbie Beers has announced that she is running for Herricks School Board trustee against incumbent Richard Buckley, who is running for reelection.

Beers said, "It is with great pleasure that I officially announce my candidacy for trustee to the Herricks School Board. I have lived in Herricks since 1961 and truly love this community.

"For the past 17 years I have been an active volunteer in the Herricks community and its many members. Working together with parents, students and administrators, important changes have blossomed to better serve our students and our taxpayers.

"Working side by side, committee by committee, parent by parent, numerous improvements to our schools and neighborhood have emerged.

"I have worked successfully with town officials, state legislators and senators to secure funding for major and minor projects at our school and in our community."

Beers concluded her statement by saying, "Responsible fiscal management, the ability to work and listen, making tough choices and finding solutions to real problems have been my passion my entire life. With the help of the voters, I will be able to continue to make Herricks the best it can be by serving everyone as a Herricks School Board member."

The Herricks school board election will be held from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the Herricks Community Center Gym, 999 Herricks Road, New Hyde Park.
