Mayors of the local villages involved with Citizens Against Rail Expansion (CARE) Organization met last Monday to reaffirm their decisions to maintain the relationship. Associated fees for maintaining an attorney and other related costs will be distributed between the villages based on the population that each village represents. Telecare TV recently re-aired a segment of Exploring Critical Issues Hosted by Dr. Robert Scott that discusses the Third Rail Project. A resident emailed Deputy Mayor Lofaro to ask if the Village board has a response to the show segment. "This project is not going away," said Lofaro. "I just want to remind the residents to be vigilant and be aware of news articles and television shows related to this topic; residents themselves please address the sources of these programs and articles." Village elections will be held March18 from noon to 9 p.m. at Marcus Christ Hall for the entire village. Deadlines for election petitions and applications have expired; all positions are uncontested. Mayor Daniel Petruccio, Trustee Donald Barbieri, Trustee Lawrence Montreuil, and Justice Chris Devane are running for re-election. Trustee Donald Barbieri attended a meeting with the MTA at the Garden City Hotel several weeks ago. Representatives from Floral Park opposed closing ticket sales booths in Floral Park as well as other stations along the path as alternative methods to reducing costs to services. A resident from South 12th Street asked for status on problems and illegal overnight parking by patrons of Empire Billiard Bar & Café of 1215 Jericho Turnpike. Mayor Daniel Petruccio said the board has spoken with the manager of the establishment, suggesting alternatives for parking issues. The manager agreed to encourage use of the municipal lot for late night parking. A survey was previously sent to the residents of South 12th Street to solicit information about the patron problems on the block. One resident reported a reoccurring garbage issue involving properties near 1007 Jericho Turnpike, stating the garbage was left for days from a Friday afternoon until regular garbage pickup was resumed after a recent holiday schedule. Deputy Mayor Robert Lofaro said, "Until we find the source, it is difficult to control that problem." The next Youth Night event is on Feb. 27 at 6 p.m. in the William Gill Theater.
