The newly formed Williston Park Civic Association held its first meeting and welcomed the many new members who joined at the open house at the American Legion Hall on Willis Avenue. Its success was due to the large number of residents who braved the cold to attend. Within 15 minutes of the start of the event, the room was filled to capacity.

Williston Park Chamber of Commerce President Ray Haller

The civics guest speakers, Rocco Iannarelli, North Hempstead's Receiver of Taxes and Williston Park's Chamber of Commerce President, Ray Haller; both spoke favorably of the Civic Association and its goals and wished the Association the best with its endeavors.

East Williston's Mayor Nancy Zolezzi applauded the Association's efforts and extended well wishes. The Williston Park Village Board responded to their invitation by the attendance of Trustee Beth Swendson-Dowd and Deputy Mayor Ann Marie Smith along with Zoning Board member, Xavier Fleming, Other Williston Park Village Board members were unable to attend due to previous obligations. Executive members from the Nassau Civic Association were also there.

The Williston Park Civic Association would like to thank the Chamber of Commerece for providing coffee and donuts for the evening and Minuteman Press of Williston Park for printing and donating the membership cards.

President Vin Siegfried made a few remarks of welcome and then opened the floor to the residents for discussion. Topics ranged from the need for a traffic light installation at the intersection of Broad Street and Hillside Avenue to potholes and tree trimming problems.

One committee has already been formd and that is shoveling for seniors. This committee will be chaired by member Tom Granger.
