Last Friday LIJSL held it's annual Awards Dinner at the Huntington Hilton. Over 550 people attended this spectacular affair and NHP was represented by almost 100 people from our Program. The evening opened with presentations of plaques and the Marge McGrory Award. As the athletes, coaches and guests dined on a wonderful dinner, raffle prizes were presented to all the players. After dinner, the players were each given a trophy and a copy of the team photo taken at the NHP Tournament last month. Dinner ended with cookies and ice cream. A great time was had by all.
A record-setting event occurred last Saturday as the parents crushed the players for the first time in the history of the NHP TOPSoccer Program! The players were probably too tired from the festivities of the previous night's Award Dinner and the parents took full advantage. There was no mercy as the scores were outrageous. The juniors were defeated 10 - 0 and the seniors were in a daze as they also wound up with a score more like football than soccer, losing 14 - 0! Parents who never touched a soccer ball all season long looked like the reincarnation of David Beckham and Mia Hamm. Wait a minute - it was only a dream! After falling asleep during the rain out on Saturday morning, I must have dreamt of this nightmare. Guess the players will have to come out to the field next week and prove this prognostication all wrong. And I'm sure the parents will want to prove that it could really happen. Hmmm, we'll have to wait and see which forecast is accurate. Rich Bletsch
