John DiVello has announced that he will run for election for a five year term as New Hyde Park Fire District Commissioner.

This will be his first election since being appointed to the position in June by the New Hyde Park Board of Fire Commissions to fill a vacancy.
DiVello has been a resident of New Hyde Park for 33 years and 26 years as a volunteer in the New Hyde Park Fire Department. He is a two time ex-captain, and served as deputy chief for four years, most recently as the Chief of the New Hyde Park Fire Department. Further, he is an active participant in Operation Wounded Warrior as well as the Gladiator Fund.
DiVello has been a member of Local Union No. 3 for the past 29 years. He is also a member of the New York State Fire Chiefs Association. He is also an Assistant Coach for the Holy Spirit Track Team.
Both he and his wife are graduates of New Hyde Park Memorial High School as well as his son, John. Their daughter Devon is a student at Hillside Grade School.
DiVello said, "I believe that the fire district priorities should be public safety and fiscal responsibility. I realize how important this job is and I intend to do my best as to reflect positively on the fire district. Serving as Fire Commissioner will allow me to continue to be actively involved and give back to this community in a meaningful way. I hope that I can count on the support of all."
Voting will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 9 from 3 to 9 p.m. at the New Hyde Park Fire Department Headquarters, 1555 Jericho Turnpike, New Hyde Park, NY 11040.

Dolan has held the rank of Fire Chief and now has decided to seek another challege to run for the office of Fire Commissioner.
Throughout the decades Dolan said he has dedicated himself to serve, “my beloved country, county and community.”
His timeline in service started when he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he earned a Purple Heart Award, a Combat Infantry Badge, a Parachute’s Badge, as well as, a Unit Citation Award.
Upon his return home from service he continued his duty and devotion to serve within his hometown community by joining the volunteer New Hyde Park Fire Department. He has been an active member for the past 46 years, having been a Company Officer within the Enterprise Engine Company #1, along with, having been Fire Chief of the Department.
As a lifelong resident of New Hyde Park, he has been married to his wife, Frances for 39 years. They were married in Holy Spirit Church and he then helped raise their 9 children, seven daughters and two sons, both whom served as fellow firefighters and military servicemen with the U.S. Marine Corps. His son, Michael Jr., is currently deployed serving his 2nd tour of duty in Iraq and his completion of duty is scheduled for May 2009.
Dolan further served as an Ex-Chairman of the Nassau County Fire Commissioners Office, Ex-Chairman of the 1st Battalion Delegates Association, and is a current member of the following associations: NYS Fire Chiefs Association, Fire Chiefs Council of Nassau County, Nassau County Firefighters Museum & Education Center, Nassau County Firefighters Burn Center Foundation at NUMC Hospital, Nassau County Firefighters ‘Operation Wounded Warriors’ Project (which serves our military men and women currently serving overseas) and the Nassau County Firefighters Emerald Society.
Because he is a recent retiree from the New York Times Company, having loyally served as an employee for 40 years, he said he will be able to provide full-time focus to the position of fire commissioner.
