The American Legion and the VFW Posts of New Hyde Park held its Annual Veterans Day ceremony on the grounds of New Hyde Park Village Hall at exactly 11 a.m. on the eleventh day of the eleventh month. It was very touching. And, it was pointed out by VFW William Holthan that this was just one of many, many Veterans ceremonies at the Memorial Rock in New Hyde Park held throughout the years. The day was beautiful, albeit one of the first really chilly days of the season.

The keynote speaker was New Hyde Park Village Mayor Daniel Petruccio, who always leaves the audience with deep and meaningful thoughts. He said, "The mark of greater people is in the pain of their own suffering they do not lose sight of what might help other people while they patiently bear the adversity that afflicts them. They still think to teach others what might be necessary. That's what America has been doing since its inception. Helping other people understand what is possible. That other nation's can be as great as us and have the same libertys and freedoms that we experience here in America. We have taken that battle to foreign shores, as we are presently on foreign shores, to try to instill these ideas. America is a model for the rest of the world. We are going through some diversity ourselves as a nation, economic diversity, but let's never lose sight of the fact that we still represent the best and the brightest that the world has ever seen and it's because of the veterans that we honor today that we can say that."

Angela Powers, then delivered a stirring rendition of The Star Spangled Banner and then the awards were given out to three women for their service to both the VFW and the American Legion for their excellent handling of the bugle at various stirring and memorial events throughout the year.

The leaders of both the American Legion and the VFW then read all the names of those who died in various wars from New Hyde Park.

The ceremony came to a close with the placing of the wreath by Legion Commander Chuck Ulrich and the gun salute.
