Sports
Well, it has come to pass and after 17 years the players STILL remain undefeated against the overmatched set of parents. All the hype about extra practices was all talk as it didn't turn into results on the field. The senior game was just about over before it started. Stefani Egre racked up 3 goals before you could blink and the parents never offered much of an offense. One goal by Stan Yang and one by Rich Bursig was too little and too late for the combined parents and coaches. Matt Saraiva and Patrick Williams added one goal each for the players who walked away with this one. Great season for the senior team of Andrew Abberton, Nick DiSalvio, Sebastian Garcia, Nick Marangoudakis, Billy Russo, Nick and Anthony Scaturro and Adam Strominger. Amazingly, the junior game also ended in an easy 5-2 victory. Mike Pellegrino and Harrison Stein has 2 goals apiece and Sebastian Pinto rounded out the players' scoring. Cory Stein and Mike Pellegrino scored for the parents. The junior team really came into their own this season as Emily Bosco, Charlie Hinz, Justin Almonte, Danny Barber, Jessica Daly, Christina and Patrick Kerwin, Nick Mininson, Nelson Molina, Nick Pusateri, Adam Rashkind and Tristan Yang showed excellent improvement! We couldn't have done it without our coaches, who were exceptional - Briana Coker, Michelle Oster, Kevin Oster, Mary Jo Bursig, Katerina Bychko, Krys Abberton and Danny Naso. A special thanks to my crew of Brian Evers, Rich and Matt Bursig who help each week with transporting the nets and supplies. Brian and Mary Jo deserve unique recognition for being my right-hands all season long it's great to have you guys by my side. Thanks to all the parents for their support of our program. It was an outstanding season. See you in September! Rich Bletsch, Director

One of the young coaches for the NHP Wildcats' TOPSoccer Program earned two special recognitions recently. This is presented annually by LIJSL to the 2 best high school senior TOPSoccer coaches on all of Long Island, based on applications submitted to the scholarship committee. Travel NHP GU 8 Finishes in First Place in Premier Red Division

In what turned out to be an extremely competitive group of teams, NHP GU8 finished in First Place in the Plainedge Premier Red Division - going 4-1, scoring 10 goals, while giving up only 2.

GAME 1: NHP - 3, Albertson -

GAME 2: NHP - 2, Levittown - 0

GAME 3: NHP - 2, Plainedge - 0

GAME 4: NHP - 0, Farmingdale - 1

GAME 5: NHP -3, East Islip -0

The first place finish was particularly satisfying because the girls came up huge in Game 5 when all the marbles were on the line after the tough loss in Game 4. They had to be feeling robbed after Farmingdale snuck out a win in Game 4 on that controversial (and last minute) Penalty Kick, and had we lost Game 5, Farmingdale would have taken our spot on the stage. But NHP would have none of that, showed a ton of grit, and came out flying in Game 5 in what turned out to be a total team effort to seal the deal. There is something special about this group of girls in big games.

Olivia Baez: Great effort all tournament long and fantastic job playing aggressive and keeping the ball in the EI zone in Game 5.

Olivia Lugo: Super effort in goal - only giving up a couple while making several sparking saves. Great effort in the field in Game 5 attacking the goal, going far post, making crossing passes and throw-ins.

Tiffany Velin: Super moves and speed all tournament long, and great pressure on the goal in Game 4 - you almost got the equalizer.

Siobhan McMullan: Well - you saved your best for last - coming up HUGE in critical Game 5 to get us going and scoring what turned out to be the game winning goal to seal the deal!

Camryn Dluginski: Well - you too saved your best for last - coming up HUGE in critical Game 5 - scoring that super-important 2d goal to deflate the opponent, and really attacking relentlessly all game long.

Sophia Leeds: Outstanding on D clearing the ball and great passing on the attack. Super Penalty Kick in Game 3 for the game-winning goal. FANTASTIC throw-ins too - you just acquired a great new skill!

Dierdre Lynch: Great 2 games on Sunday - playing much more aggressive and taking shots. You did super passing the ball in critical Game 5 and you just missed on the one super shot.

Edna Dudek: 2 Shut-outs in goal and some very inspired play in the field made for a very very nice tournament for you. Just be mindful of those punts! Very nice job - Edna, you came up big in Game 5 when we needed you most!

Kira Crehan: Kira wanted to do more attacking but we needed that speed on D this time around - and you did super clearing the ball and getting into the attack when you had the chance. Great job, kiddo.

Mackenzie Griffin: Big Mack had her clearing kick booming in critical Game 5 and I was very pleased with play in general in D all tournament long. Would have liked to have gotten you in the attack. We will.

Theodora Papadonio: Theodora came up huge on Saturday, scoring 3 goals and really setting the pace in Game 1. Then, she came up very big in Game 5 with the icing-on-the-cake goal to seal the deal 3-0. Super tournament, Theodora!

Kaitlyn Krems: Little Katie played up about 6 inches today- coming up big on Saturday, netting 3 goals and playing like a tiger. On Sunday, she did a super job passing the ball and setting up several chances.

Great job again ladies. You made all the dads very happy on Father's Day.

Lady Lynx - 6 Valley Stream Shamrocks - 0

The Lady Lynx ended their season with a dominating preformance this past weekend. The Shamrocks were no match for the talented Lynx as the Ladies controled the game from the start. Maeve started the scoring with a pretty tip off of a centering pass from Allision. Taylor increased the lead to 2-0 with a rocket past the overmatched keeper. Taylor and Maeve teammed up to build the lead to 3-0. Taylor made a pretty pass to Maeve who converted for her second goal of the game and her second two goal game in a row. Keri was in goal for the first half and made several good saves to keep the Shamrocks scoreless. Aisling was agressive in the offensive zone to start the second half before being forced to the sidelines as the heat made her feel alittle under the weather. Hope your feeling better Fitzy. Bianca , who was blasting the ball all game , added the the lead with a shot off the keeper for a commanding 4-0 lead. Julia L. was agressively battling the opponent before twisting her ankle but after a short break showed her toughness tby returning to the game. Eva played her last game with the Lynx and played her usual great game. She excelled in both the offensive and defensive zone. Jackie shot a bullet into the net for another NHP goal and increased the lead to 5-0. Ashley, also was playing her final Lady Lynx contest , was a force on both offense and defense. She had a multiple shots of goal and made some impressive passes. Keri closed out the scoring by converting a long shot into the upper corner of the net. New Hyde Park Lady Tigers 1 vs. Plainedge Dare Devils 1 - It was a hot and humid day to end the season with the girls playing twice as hard. The Dare Devils scored early in the game, leaving the Lady Tigers to play catch up. The Lady Tigers passed the ball beautifully to set up many near misses. It was Betsy that scored the tying goal with a corner kick that deflected off the goalie and dropped into the back corner. A huge thank you to all of our wonderful Coaches: Dan Rivera, Tom McGrath, Lenny Kennedy and Don Tanenbaum. Then where would the girls be without our Trainer Steve. The girls continue to develop their game and still have fun under your guidance. Thank you, Steve. Also, a special thank you to Angela Pellegrino for all your hard work behind the scenes. Finally, thanks to all the parents, relatives and friends for all your help and continued support of the Lady Tigers. The Lady Tigers are: Jasmine Bustos, Laila Chadli, Gianna Ferrante, Martha Keller, Julie Kennedy, Gillian Lee, Jennifer Louie, Keeley McGrath, Lisa Pellegrino, Sabrina Posadas, Erin Rivera, Bridgette Stacom and Betsy Tanenbaum.
