At a special hearing, held prior to the New Hyde Park Village Board meeting, the board passed a request for federal block grant funds, distributed by the county, in the amount of $1 million for the Jericho Turnpike Operation Downtown. The Mets and Yankees met in yet another thrilling "subway" matchup. The Yankees demonstrated great sportsmanship by lending the Mets three of their finest players - Matthew Birch, Jack Knupfer and Alan Birbaum.
