Top Soccer
After hearing all the dismal weather forecasts, there was a good chance that TOPSoccer's opening day was going to be postponed. But the soccer gods were with us and, once again, it turned out to be an excellent day. A big enrollment swelled our junior ranks with many new players. Speaking of the juniors, their match ended in a 2-2 tie, which could not be broken, even with a shootout. Emily led the Panthers with both of their scores while Sebastian and Nick Pusateri responded with one goal apiece for the Tigers. Jessica Daly was the standout on defense. Danny Barber and Nicholas Mininson had super all-around games. The seniors played a tight game. Goals were scored by Stefani Egre and Constantine Lascarides for the red team. The blue team spread around the scoring with Andrew Abberton, Nicholas DiSalvio, Justin Lim and Adam Strominger all finding the net. Welcome to our new players: Nelson, Patrick, Christina, Mike, Andrea, Adam and Sebastian. A big thanks to the new coaches: Alexa, Stephanie, Jessica and Nicole. Richard Bletsch Director

DC United vs. Galaxy - What a great start to a new season. Both teams came out ready to play with lots of energy and excitement. John Kilcullen started off the scoring for DC United but a tough Galaxy offense struck right back. Gautam Nayyar and Kyle Bangug were outstanding in goal as Kyle Donohue, Bryan Wu and Justin Cornero put together an amazing effort on defense consistently clearing the ball. Jose Marulanda, Daniel Lee and Tom Kamberis moved the ball well for an offense that had plenty of scoring opportunities on the day but just could not find the back of the net. Michael Lynch played an amazing game on both sides of the ball with relentless effort that earned him first touch throughout the day. We look forward to getting Nevin Nambiar back next week to add to what looks like the making of a great season. The entire DC United team would like to wish Coach Neveen a speedy recovery as he recovers from surgery. GO DC UNITED!

Panthers vs. Tigers - It was a beautiful day for soccer as the Tigers and Panthers took to the field week 2. The Tigers were led in the first half by Joseph Sullivan in goal and a strong defense led by the relentless attack of Steven Deverteuil. James Connolly and Lazar Markovic were solid on defense as well. The offense was once again led by Christopher Kilcullen as he scored two goals and Dillon Langner who had his first goal of the season. Peter Siozos showed great hustle up and down the field all day. Ronald Chirinos played the second half in goal and was soild as usual on both sides of the ball. The all around play of Kevin Fox was missed today as well as that of Maxwell Giuliano who could not attend due to a birthday celebration. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAX!!! from all of your teammates and coaches. NHP Tigers vs RVC 3-1
In a true team effort, the NHP Tigers played their best game to date and first victory of the spring. The boys got off to a good start with a goal by Brendan Quinn off a penalty kick. Peter Restivo made a spot on pass across the goal mouth to assist a well placed goal by Michael Orlik. The defense of Kevin Keenan, John Hannah, and Brendan
Quinn shut the RVC offense down in the first half. The second half saw left wing Jacob Leeds stepping up his game with crisp passing and three shots on goal. Brendan Q. saved a goal with a blocked shot on a RVC penalty kick. Jeremy El Kashash, Husain Poonawala, and Ryan O'Donnell played a tight defense, clearing the ball and springing the offense. Michael Carrotta evaded the RVC defense with some nice footwork. Nick
Nikas did a good job at forward getting to the ball and pushing toward the goal. Striker Michael O. made a nice breakaway and pushed through the defense to score his second hard earned goal of the game. The Tiger defense was so tight, the opponent was only able to score one goal and goalie Alex Ptacek saved four more. Each and every player contributed to this victory. GREAT JOB TIGERS !
Waldbaum's Cup - Round 1

NHP Jaguars 1-Mastic 0 - The NHP Jaguars got off to a great start for their Spring 08 campaign. The boys played an outstanding game on Saturday. A complete team effort! Although the game was tied 0-0 at half time, the defense of Anthony Cacchioli, John Buckley, and Andrew Curcio kept the Mastic team in check. Once again, Daniel Flori was rock solid in the goal. In the second half the Jaguars started pushing the ball up the wings. Liam Bradley and Brendan Deery made several runs up the side and created several scoring chances. However, it was the combination of Anthony Cacchioli passing to Anthony Lopes who pushed it forward to Mike Zornberg with a finish by Roy Cunha that gave the Jaguars a 1-0 lead early in the second half. Throughout the second half the midfield of Brendan Morrison, Thomas Farnan, Anthony DiMarco, and Brian Ambadjes kept the ball away from the Mastic forwards. Although, the mid-field play by the Jaguars minimized the opponents opportunities, it takes a 11 players for a team win. And the story of the day was the 11th player, Daniel Flori in the net. In the closing minutes, he made two outstanding saves on breakaways, one of which he looked like a hockey goalie making a kick save. And it was a beauty, as time expired and the Jaguars secured a 1-0 win in Round 1 of Waldbaums Cup play.

Kitty Kats vs. Cheetah Girls - The Kitty Kats played tough throughout the game. Everyone tried new positions and played their hearts out. Caroline Nuttall rarely got a chance to rest and made some impressive plays. Jasmine Kamdar and Alina Kachar demonstrated some fancy footwork bringing the ball down the field. It was the usual high powerful kicks by Stephanie Zovich that went straight from the backfield up toward the goal that assisted in keeping the ball in goal range. Caitlin Biggs and Madeline Slaski are stepping up and preventing advances. Julia Feldman played excellent midfield and defense with lots of energy breaking up scoring changes. On goal, Randi Sarf, Jordan Wachsman and Julia Feldman made several great saves on point blank shots. Congratulations to both teams! The Cheetah Girls vs. The Kitty Kats - It was a cold Sunday but that did not stop The Cheetah Girls whom were playing without any substitutes available. Excellent effort and teamwork by The Cheetah Girls who started early on the attack of The Kitty Kats with a goal scored by Daniela O'Modie. Amazing goal-tending by Kasey Kennedy and Silvana Seidita who made great decisions to come out of goal on the attack to stop a potential goal by the Kitty Kats. Switching positions frequently with all The Cheetah Girls during the first half of the game, Nida Mirza led the offensive along with Silvana Seidita for breakaway shots on the Kitty Kats goalie. The defense was very solid with Alexandra Gootman breaking up plays by the Kitty Kats. Second half offense led this time by Kasey Kennedy and Irene Tsahas were in perfect positions to net goals for the Cheetah Girls. Way to go Kasey and Irene!! Switching positions again, this time strong defensive plays by Silvana Seidita kicking the ball up the field to her offensive line. Great teamwork by both teams and big Thanks to the parents for cheering all the players on. We missed Lauren Vowinkel, Daphne Siozios and Stephanie Chacko. Congrats to Everyone!!

Cubs vs Lightning What a difference a week will make with a cloudy and colder day, than our opening game, when the Cubs came out hot and aggressive this week the temp just cooled the teams drive. The Cubs were up against a little mighty Lightning storm. The Cubs did all they could with some good defense by Anooja John, Kathleen Toscano, Marissa Cronin, and a most aggressive defensive performance by Emily Price going one on one [mano a mano] with Kaityn Krems to break up Kaitlyn's drive to the goal. Way to keep in the game Emily. Isabella Hernandez was doing her part getting into the middle of defense with some good defensive stops and even taking a most unfortunate ball to the side of her face, on a cooled day ouch that hurts but the sting wasn't hard enough to keep this tough girl out of the game. Olivia Lugo powered the offense with the only goal for the Cubs. Allysa Macher on offense did her best to break through the tough Lightning defense. Siobhan Mcmullen did her best in goal in the second half but the show went to Olivia Baez with some really great saves early in the first half to save the Cubs from a big lopsided lost, excellent job Olivia B. The Cubs missed the help of Emma Laskowski and Julia Gordon.

The Lady Tigers came out roaring. Gia Antoncci dribbled through and gave us an early lead with several blasts in the goal. Natalie Kariotis scored twice on 2 beautiful crosses by her team mates in front of the net. Kimberly Keblish took control of the defense playing center backing up her team mates. Danielle Gerbe and Aoife Fitzgerald stood strong on defense at their side of the defense. Amanda Madenberg made a couple of runs to the goal. Margaret Donnelly and Catherine Lyons shared the goalie position stopping shot after shot. Great job!
Game Summary
GU8: Lightning -4, Cubs -1
The one constant to start the Spring Intramural season has been cold and windy weather - and Sunday's game was no exception with overcast skies and a threat of storms. The Lightning got on the board about 10 minutes into the game when Midfielder Dylan Sanders broke in on goal and put away a centered ball by LF Sophie Michaels to make it 1-0 early on. This was Dylan's first-ever goal since playing soccer - Congratulations! Shortly thereafter, RF Kaitlyn Krems was fed a nice ball by Sophie Michaels from the left and Katie one-touched the ball home to make it 2-0. Kaitlyn finished the Lightning scoring in the first half by driving right on goal and launched a high and hard rocket over the goalie to make it 3-0 before the Cubbies closed it to 3-1 before the break. Mollie Zimmerman was super in goal in the first half - making several diving stops. In the second half, things settled down as the Cubbie late arrivals showed up and really cracked down on the Lightning attack. Still, Kaitlyn was able to feed Striker Sophie Leeds in front of goal and she cracked off a shot to make it 4-1 about half way thru the 2d half. Jordyn Seagul had a great game driving in on goal in taking several dangerous shots. The defense was also superb - anchored by Bethany Ambrosio in the middle, Jessica Goldstein on the right and Isabel Ugolini on the left. Each did a great job of clearing the ball wide and hard out of danger and then up the line. Marisa Menist did a fine job at midfield and then goalie making several tough saves. Kristin Granieri did a fine job at goalie also and then on defense - making several super kicks down the line. Kasey Borduas and Casey Sanders - we missed you. Great game, girls - great teamwork!

New Hyde Park Lady Tigers 2 vs. East Meadow Starz 1
April 5, 2008
With an early morning start, both teams seem sluggish and started off slowly. However, the Lady Tigers did get an early lead with Erin scoring the first goal by charging to the goal and scoring with her left foot. The Lady Tigers kept the pressure up but the Starz's goalie played an outstanding game and was able to stop several attempts by Jasmine, Erin, Sabrina, and Jennifer. Keeley, Bridgette and Gillian worked hard chasing down all loose balls to keep the offense pressure on. The Lady Tigers then exhibited some excellent teamwork. Erin, driving the ball down the field, kicked the ball from the right side of the field that went towards the goal. Jennifer raced toward the left corner of the goal, got into a perfect position to knock in the team's second goal. Betsy, Laila, Julie and Sabrina all played a strong mid-field and defensive game. The Starz got through with a quick rush downfield and scored right before the half. The Lady Tigers were able to hang on in the second half and preserve the 2 to 1 victory. From the score, one would think that the game ended in the first half but it was an exciting game up to the very end with both teams making strong defensive and offensive plays. Martha did an amazing job substituting at goaltending, while the Lady Tigers were missing their primary goalies, Lisa and Gianna. On a few plays, Martha jumped high to deflect, block and catch the ball in order to maintain the lead for the Lady Tigers.
New Hyde Park Lady Tigers 3 vs. Massapequa Blaze 0
April 6, 2008
The Lady Tigers played their second game for the weekend with Betsy blasting the ball from the back field towards the goal. It was Erin that made an instant replay of yesterday's game and scored the first goal by lifting the ball high above the goalie which took the goalie by surprise. The score remained at 1 to 0 for the remainder of the first half while the Lady Tigers defended and kept the ball away from their goal that was tended by Lisa. Gillian and Jasmine had a few good attempts on goal. Jasmine just missed, hitting the top goal post. Erin made a beautiful pass to Keeley across the goal but the ball was blocked by the Massapequa Blaze goalie as she did with many of the Lady Tigers' attempts.
Betsy had several attempts that just missed. Then on a corner kick towards the goal, the ball was deflected off the tip of the goalie's hands and dropped into the goal. Each girl worked tirelessly and never gave up on the ball. The Lady Tiger's final goal was something to behold. Erin took the penalty kick off to the side near mid-field and surprised everyone with her amazing kick that cleared everyone's head and went straight into the upper left corner to score the third and final goal for the Lady Tigers. What an exciting and successful weekend for the Lady Tigers despite the weather.

NHP Lady Bengals 0 Glen Cove - 1 - It was another windy/cold day as the Lady Bengals played game #2 at Glen Cove. Gina Cacchioli was a force to be reckoned with today as she played tough against Glen Cove and our goalie, Danielle Fogarty who made a nice save late in the game. The midfielders created several plays for the forward line but their shots were stopped by their opponent's goalie. Keep up the fine team work and a very Happy Birthday to our own Dena Cavallaro who celebrated on b-day on April 5th!!!!!
