March 15: Lady Lynx - 4 Plainview - 1
The Lady Lynx played their first ever Waldbaums Cup this weekend and scored an impressive 4-1 victory over Plainveiw Old Bethpage. The girls were in midseason form displaying creative passing and solid defense in the opening round win. Danniella opened the scoring with the season's first goal off of two perfect passes from Bianca and Eva just a few minutes into the contest. The defense stopped the charging POB girls throughout the game. Aisling and Taylor battled tough in the defensive zone. Julia T. was eqully strong, constantly preventing the POB's advances. The Lady Lynx opened the game up in the second half. The games second goal was scored by Allison, who received a nice pass from Ashley. Maeve was active in the offensive zone and made some great passes to open teammates. After POB scored Keri continued the scoring with a smart charge into the offensive zone to make it a 3-1 lead. Jackie was solid playing in both the offensive and defensive zone. Allison got her second goal of the game to close out the scoring for the final 4-1 score. The Lady Lynx played a great all around game but the stars were the goaltenders Julia L. and Allison who both were outstanding. Both girls made several great saves on point blank shots. Great game Lady Lynx!

NHP Lady Bengals 3 Bayport 2 - Wow! The Lady Bengals opened up their Spring Season (it was so cold and windy) with a nail biter of a game but in the end the Lady Bengals were the winners! Kudos goes out to Katherine McCune who stepped up to the plate to assume the position of goalie as our regular goalie, Danielle Fogarty couldn't be at the game with Rachel Hand lending a hand as well. The Ladies played tough and really began to come alive when Alexa Epstein tied up the game in the first few minutes of the game. Bayport answered back with another goal but that was ok because Katie McGowan received a great pass and slammed it into her opponent's goal to tie the score again. The Lady Bengals were not interested in a tie so they were determined to win this game by working hard and skillfully together as a team and that is when Kathy Kariotis grabbed the ball and ran down the field and popped the last score of the game into the net .... Way to go girls!

New Hyde Park Lady Tigers 2 vs. Levittown Panthers 2 - It was a cold windy blistering day to bring the Lady Tigers out of hibernation for the first game of the season. The Panthers scored the first goal but the Lady Tigers rallied strong when Erin scored on a sliding goal to tie the game. Lisa was always alert and ready at her post and defended a high left corner goal attempt by jumping as high as she could. Both Julie and Betsy set up beautiful corner kicks but the game ended up at 2 to 1 at the first half when the Panther scored a beautifully played goal. Laila and Betsy each played a strong defensive game. Erin, Keeley, Jasmine, Gillian, Jennifer, Martha, and Bridgette ran against the wind to try to tie the game. Keeley, Jasmine and Martha just missed scoring. Sabrina and Julie played excellent mid field and defense throughout the entire game and Sabrina kept on going despite the knocked down and getting hit with the ball. It was the usual high powerful kick by Betsy that went straight from the backfield up towards the goal, and then Erin outran two opposing defenders to score our second goal to tie the game. All the players from both teams should be commended for the effort against the brutal wind they were running up against tirelessly for the entire game. We missed you Gianna.

Lady Lynx -1 Syosset Red Bulls - 1 - The Lady Lynx opened their regular season in flying fashion this past weekend. Despite the chilly temperature and breezy conditions the Lynx were quite impressive. The girls worked extremely hard this past winter to improve their level of play and it was evident in this contest. Their spacing and teamwork created many scoring chances. The Lynx opened the scoring early in the first half when Danniella calmly hit the corner of the net after receiving a beautiful pass from Eva, who played an outstanding game. Bianca used her quickness on offense to cause problems for the Red Bull defense. Ashley almost increased the Lynx lead but her shot which seemed destined for the goal hit the side and the net. Maeve, continued her fine play from last season and kept the Bulls keeper busy with her offensive rushes. As impressive as the Lady Lynx were on offense it was the play of the defense and goal keepers that secured the tie. Taylor challenged the rushing Bulls and refused to let them advance past her. Julia L. played with great confidence and carried the ball into the offensive zone. Keri used her speed to catch the striking Bulls and prevent multiple scoring attempts. Julia T. battled the strong Bulls forwards and refused to let them advance. Aisling is developing great timing and smartly selects the correct time to challenge and take the ball from the surging opponents. Jackie stepped up to take the nets in the first half and made some impressive saves. Her best save came on a rocket shot that she calmly knocked out of the air and gained control of before playing it out to her teammates. Allison took the goalie shirt in the second half and was just as impressive. She maintained the tie by making tough save on a high rising bullet late in the second half. It was a strong start to the season for the girls as they continue to improve. The entire team is working very hard each week in practice. The girls have developed a nice chemistry as their friendship and teamwork grows stronger. Thanks to the Lady Lynx parents and family members for their continued support.

Lightening 4 Firecats 3 - On a sunny by chilly Sunday, the Lightning and the Firecats squared off to open up the GU8 Season in what promised to be a high scoring game. The girls did not disappoint as both teams came out firing, captured and lost leads, before the Lightning got the late goal to win it. It was a shame either team came up short today because both teams fought hard all game long. The Firecats struck first to take a 1-0 lead about 15 minutes into the game before LF Sophie Michaels tied things up 1-1 off a nice crossing pass by Striker Sophia Leeds. The first half ended tied 1-1. The Lightning went up 2-1 when Sophie M got her 2d goal at the beginning of the 2d half, and then RF Kaitlyn Krems contributed a goal with a well struck ball to make it 3-1 about half way thru. The Firecats came storming back, however, and scored 2 quick goals to tie the game. A few minutes later, RF Kaitie K changed field and sprang Sophie M down the left side, and she drove in on goal converted a late goal to win the game and record a hat-trick for her efforts - FANTASTIC GAME! Very aggressive center-midfield play by Casey Sanders and Marisa Menist who both did a very nice job distributing the ball all game long. Very spirited play by Dylan Sanders and Jordyn Seagul who both ran up and down the field with a lot of energy and broke up several strong chances by the Firecats. Particularly fantastic defense by Bethany Ambrosio at Center D, Jessica Goldstein on RD, and Kasey Borduas & Isabel Ugolini at LD who all cleared the ball very effectively all game long wide and then up field. The goal tending of Kristin Granieri, Mollie Zimmerman [2 great diving saves], Dylan Sanders and Jessica G was superb. Great game ladies!
Panthers vs. Cubs - If the season opener between the Panthers and the Cubs was any indication of the upcoming games, then it looks like we are in for an exciting season. Kira Crehan of the Panthers scored the first of her three goals early in the game on a breakaway down the center of the field. Bonnie Charles had some exciting saves during the first half of play and the defensive efforts of Ciara Lennon, Mackenzie Griffin and Hannah Dienstag helped prevent the Cubs from scoring for most of the first half of play. The Cubs tied the game at one a piece just before intermission. Early in the second half of the game, the Cubs took the lead, but thanks to the precise passing of Shayna Zeitlin and Camryn Weinbaum, the Panthers tied the score on Kira Crehan's second goal of the day. Once again the Cubs came storming back and took the lead, but a perfectly timed pass from the Panthers Natalie Giordano to Kira Crehan (who scored her third goal) tied the game again. Late in the game, the Cubs were threatening to take the lead, but were turned away, thanks to Ciara McGreevy's defensive play and the outstanding goal keeping of Ally Petricca. With time winding down, the Panthers moved the ball deep into Cubs territory. There was a great deal of "traffic" in front of Cubs goal and suddenly, Kelsey Nathan drilled the ball into the right side of the net for the Panthers go ahead goal.
Both teams displayed great sportsmanship and soccer skills for the duration of the game!
Cubs 3 vs Panthers 4 - It was a beautiful day and great start to another spring soccer season, as the Cubs took on the Panthers today. The Panthers started on the attack early with an early goal in the first half but was turned away several other times by Olivia Lugo in goal for the first half. Siobhan McMullen was not to be denied with some cool fancy footwork went on making her way through the Panthers defense and scoring her first goal of the game. The defense was solid for the Cubs with Olivia Baez, Camryn Dluginski, Marissa Cronin, Emma Laskowski, and Isabella Hernandez swarming all over the field to break up most of the Panthers' charge. The Cubs offense was hard at work with Julia Gordon showing some aggressive play and Allysa Macher squeaking a shot through the goaltenders legs for her first goal. Olivia Lugo sent a pinpoint pass to Siohban Mcmullen for Siohban's second goal of the game. Emily Price did her best at goal late in the game but Kira Crehan was to fast and to powerful to be caged was on the attack for the Panthers scoring three powerful goals and leading her team to victory. A great first game by the Cubs players you did a super job out there. The Cubs missed the help of Anooja John and Kathleen Toscano hope to see you next week.

Kitty Kats vs. Wild Things - The Kitty Kats are off to a great season. Julia Feldman and Caroline Nuttall stepped up to the goalie position and made some amazing saves. The offense lead by Caroline Nuttall, Jasmine Kamdar, Jordan Wachsman, and Alina Kachar demonstrated some very clever moves on the field. They took the ball down the sidelines and stole some potential breakaway goals. The defensive players, Stephanie Zovich, Caitlin Bigg, Madeline Slaski and Julia Feldman were tough as nails covering the entire field and sending the ball back down the field. We missed Randi Sarf and hope for a speedy recovery. Congratulations to both teams!
The Cheetah Girls - What a great Spring day for the first game of the season for The Cheetah Girls vs. The Strikers. The Cheetah Girls played a terrific game as a team. Outstanding goal tending by Alexandra Gootman for the first half of the game for the Cheetah Girls. Excellent defensive plays led by Kasey Kennedy and Irene Tsahas passing the ball up to their offensive line led by Silvana Seidita, Daniela Omodie and Stephanie Chacko taking great shots on the Strikers goalie. Terrific second half goal tending by Daphne Siozios blocking hard shots by the Strikers offensive making it difficult for the Strikers to make a goal. Great teamwork by Nida Mirza who led the offensive in the second half for the Cheetah Girls for an awesome goal scored by Irene Tsahas. Great Job Cheetah Girls. We are so proud of all of you!! Keep it up!! We miss you Lauren Vowinkel. We hope for a speedy recovery!

NHP Travel Tigers vs. Floral Park Warriors 3-1 - The Tigers Spring season began on a chilly Saturday morning with a game against a tough Floral Park team. The first half saw spirited play by all. The Tigers got on the scoreboard early with a goal by midfielder Brendan Quinn. Forwards Michael Orlik, Nick Nikas, John Hannah, Jacob Leeds and Michael Carrotta, kept up the pressure on the Floral Park goal during the game. The game was tied at the half 1-1. In the second half Brendan Q. gave his all, but just missed wide of the net on a penalty kick. The Tiger defense of Kevin Keenan, Jeremy El Kashash, Peter Restivo, Ryan O'Donnell, and Husain Poonawala was tight throughout the game and did their best to spring the offense. Alex Ptacek in goal made 10 outstanding saves to keep the game close. A good first effort for the Tigers. GO TIGERS!!

Boys U8 International Division Tigers 3, Tiger Sharks 1 - It was a little cool and windy as the Tigers opened up their season a little shorthanded with no substitutes available. Great effort was put out by all. Joseph Sullivan and Steven DeVerteuil were both outstanding in goal. Kevin Fox was relentless on attack all day as he set up Christopher Kilcullen for the Tigers first score of the day. Ronald Chirinos played terrific on both sides of the ball anchoring a defense that kept the ball on their opponent's side of the field for most of the game. James Connolly displayed great foot skills as he passed the ball up field on numerous occasions. Christopher Kilcullen was able to break past a tough Tiger Sharks defense as he completed his hat trick on the day with his third goal of the game as time ran out. The Tigers would like to thank all of the parents that came out to cheer them on and wish Coach Howard and Dillon Langner a speedy recovery from their colds. GO TIGERS!

Crew vs. Red Bulls - The season opening match was a good one between the Crew and Redbulls. Goalkeeping provided by John Mc Cormack, Mark Niewierowski and Kevin Peteroy. You all did a great job. Tough on defense were Nicholas Favale and Brandon Berland. Supporting play in the midfield was Kosta Katsoulis, Raymond Zhao, Nathan Edwards and Nelson Wu. Goals were scored by Matty Lorandini (4) and John Berland (1). A great game played by all players from the Crew and the Redbulls. Congratulations on a job well done.
