Opinion

We were deeply and profoundly saddened to be informed of the death of Sophie Sciame, a longtime resident of New Hyde Park She was truly the epitome of elegance in every sense of the word.

She was at almost every New Hyde Park Cellini Lodge event, sitting quietly, always dressed to perfection, beaming proudly at her son Joseph, an original founder of the lodge, who eventually moved on to become the National Order Sons of Italy in America New York State and then National President, a huge honor.

Deep Sympathy to Joseph Sciame and Family The beloved wife of the late Joseph, she was also the proud mother of her daughter Gertrude and her husband Robert and of her grandchildren Joann, Beth and her husband Buddy, and Diana. Further, she was the loving great-grandmother of Brice, Anthony, Garrett, Gabrielle, Zackary and Alexandria. She is also survived by her sisters Mary and Vivian and her sisters-in-law Mary and Vera, plus many nieces and nephews.

Often times called the "Mother of Cellini Lodge," Sophie will be sorely missed by all who knew her, but most especially by her son, Joseph, who took such good care of her with the utmost love and devotion. mdw
