After a long and hard fought afternoon of competitive soccer, the New Hyde Park Wildcats Boys U7 - White Lightning & Wildcats Teams took first and second place in the West Hempstead tournament.
During the round robin segment of play, the White Lightning team came in first with a3-0-1 record. The team's clutch offensive was led by Kevin Alvarado, Christopher Carbone & Evan Bandini. Their lock down defense was led by Christian Morales, Connor Smith & Anthony DeVito. A stingy group of goalies set the tone early by making countless saves. They were led by Nicholas Duras & Matthew Morales.
The Wildcats team had a round robin record of 2-1-2 and they were seeded third in the playoffs. Their strong offense was led by Andrew Higgins, Sean O'Connor & Matthew O'Neill. Their tough defense was anchored by Adrian Puran, Johnathan Fusaro & Joseph Tomich. Their stellar goalie play was led by Jack Lynch & Ryan O'Sullivan.
In the playoffs, the White Lightning Team started out strong by beating the Oceanside team 3-1 to move into the championship game. The Wildcats team persevered 3-2 in a tough thrilling triple overtime match against the West Hempstead Red Team, to set up an all New Hyde Park championship game. The championship game pitted a well-rested White Lightning team versus an exhausted Wildcats team. The end result was a tight 1-0 victory for the White Lightning team.
Congratulations to both Boys U7 squads on a great day of soccer in which both teams displayed a very high level of skill, teamwork, camaraderie and sportsmanship.
