Times Are Tough - But Not for the County There must have been a big windfall in Nassau County to refurbish the County Courthouse, buy furniture and flat screen TVs as well as big, fat raises for the county's elected officials.

How dare you people raise our taxes again and again? I just received my reassessment as it's up again.

For the past couple of years, the housing market has been down in the dumps; jobs are hard to come by and the dollar is weak. People have not been able to sell their homes for the price you have assessed them for.

Seniors can't afford to live here and young people can't stay here. In the meantime, everyone is just struggling along.

I am freezing in my house because the price of oil is too high. I walk to the store since the price of gas is too high. I, myself, could use thousands of dollars. The 1996 car is getting old and the house needs to be painted. The basement needs to be waterproofed and you reassess me for more money. We are paying some of the highest school taxes in the county with over $22,000 per pupil. How greedy is that? Shame on all.

Food, railroads and bridges were all increased and for Social Security, we get just about nothing. When is help coming for the poor people?

I am 73 years old and have a voice that should be heard.
