New Hyde Park Memorial seventh graders had the privilege of learning about teamwork from a former player of the Islanders. Steve Webb, formerly from the Islanders, Sparky the Dragon and one of the Ice Girls spoke to the seventh graders about teamwork in athletics as well as in daily school life.
Webb related his personal life growing up as a hockey player to the lives of the students. He related his teammates and coaches to the teachers and
friends that our students have. He also had an activity with goalie equipment to show the difference that teamwork can make. One student had
to put on goalie equipment with the help of 4-5 other students, while a teacher had the same equipment to put on by herself. He explained how
teamwork helped the student to get dressed much quicker because the student had help and relied on other.
