A strong advocate of the efforts to keep the local water supply safe, pure, and plentiful, Commissioner Cooper is a member of the Long Island Water Conference, and the Nassau/Suffolk Water Commissioners Association. He has worked in conjunction with former Assemblyman Tom DiNapoli in the efforts to assure the continued availability and purity of our water into the future. He has served on the Town of North Hempstead's Environmental Legacy Fund, continuing his efforts to secure our natural resources, and currently serves as a member of the Town's Inter-municipal coordinating board.

Cooper is vice president with the North Shore - LIJ Health System and holds a Ph.D. and Master's of Business Administration from Adelphi University, and a Bachelors degree from Hofstra University. Cooper is a life long resident of the community where he currently lives with his wife Debra and children Jillian and Brendan.

In connection with his announcement, Commissioner Cooper issued the following statement: "Working with Commissioners Augustine Carnevale and Chris Engel, I have been honored to serve the community for 12 years. The quality of our local water supply is excellent and continues to not only meet, but to exceed every federal and state requirement for purity. I am proud of our Fire Department and Rescue Squad which continue to be one of the best in Nassau County. I have been very conscious of the need to keep taxes down while ensuring that our water supply is maintained at the highest standard, and our Fire Department and Rescue Squad receive the support they need to continue to serve our community effectively. I have therefore cut expenses and increased efficiency at every opportunity. Additionally, I have instituted more efficient financial management practices that have resulted in recognition of the district by the New York State Comptrollers office. The district's financial practices were recognized as exemplary and a model of fiscal responsibility."

Cooper concluded, "I ask for your support so that I can continue my efforts to ensure the excellent quality and quantity of our water supply and that our fire and rescue services are second to none."

The election will be held on Tuesday evening, December 11 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Herricks Community Center on Herricks Road, Denton Avenue School on Denton Avenue, and the Garden City Park School on Central Avenue, New Hyde Park.
