The Lady Tigers are the U9 Girls Champions. Hannah Arkin gave an offensive exhibition scoring 4 break-a-way goals. Emma Nidermaier, the defensive leader and sweeper, was unstoppable in the backfield. She was supported by Kimberly Keblish, Danielle Gerbe, and Catherine Lyons who played an unbelievable defense. Caira Jennings continued to be at the top of her goalie game with incredible saves. Aoife Fitzgerald showed she could contribute on offense with a breakaway shot on goal that was saved. Abby Wizel's relentless pressure on offense and midfield gave many opportunities. Natalie Kariotis hustled most of the game and ended with a high blast at goal that was awesomely saved. Plus, a special thanks to Dave Fitzgerald and Mike Arkin for assisting this season.

While the weather was questionable early in the morning, the action of the field was straight to the point. As usual, the parents heated up the field with their "hot air" about how this was the year they were going to upset the athletes, but it was not to be. The juniors were held in check for most of the game as the parents put up a reasonable challenge and ended the game in a 5-5 tie. Sam sparked the parents with 3 goals and Cory had 2. The players spread the wealth with goals by Jessica Daly, Harrison Stein, Tristan Yang, Julius Sum and guest player Darren. The players starred in the shootout, winning 4-0. Jessica, Harrison, Tristan and Julius all found their marks with their shots and laid to rest the any hopes the parents may have had. The seniors were dominating on the field. Stefani Egre continued her awesome attack with 3 goals. Nick DiSalvio added 2 more and Constantine Lascarides and Darren (he gets around) contributed one each. Andrew Abberton and Debbie Chin were outstanding all over the field with superb tackles and great passes. The parents looked totally disoriented and chalked up their first goal on a pass across the middle that was accidentally tipped in by the opposition! What a start. A late charge saw goals by Rich Bursig, Rich Schlueck and Ray Andersen, but it was not even close. If they had an opportunity, it may have been the first game where a team threw in the white towel to save themselves any further embarrassment. It was that one-sided. Great work all season by a super coaching staff. Michelle, Danny, Greg, Katerina, Kerstin, Brianna, Keri, Aaron, John, Kenny and David, you guys are wonderful. Also, thanks to the adults, Ray, Jay and Kevin who help to keep things in perspective. A special thanks to the Bursig's, who are always there for us. And to my cofounder and partner, Brian Evers, who is an ongoing source of inspiration and support.

Championship Game: Lions vs. Tornados
The Lions win the championship game 2 - 0 over the Tornados and finish the season undefeated. A hard fought first half by both teams with the defense of Thomas Haug, Nicholas Pellegrino and Gabriel Moreno not allowing a shot on goal. The second half started much the same. With the ball being kept deep in the offensive zone, Thomas was finally able to find an open Nicholas Arman who then made a nice touch pass to Sean McClellan for the game's first score. Michael Marcy, Bailey Lee and Colin Neubert were able to keep the pressure on and enabled Sean to put in his second of the match. Steven DeVerteuil kept the shutout in tact by making some spectacular saves when the pressure was on. Coach Gary, Mark and Tom would like to congratulate the Lions and thank them as well for a memorable season.

Tigers vs. Floral Park Hornets 2-2
On a cold Saturday morning the NHP Tigers were all warmed up for a match against a tough Hornet team. The first half saw spirited play from both sides with the Tigers dominating the play in the opponents end. The Tiger offense of Michael Orlik, Jacob Leeds, Nick Nikas, and John Hanna each had a shot on goal and several scoring opportunities. They did a great job of peppering the Hornet goal all half, however they were not able to convert the shots to goals. Kevin Keenan on D had a tremendous game, chasing the ball down and taking the ball wide and out of our end. The first half ended with the Tigers down by 2 goals. The boys came out to play again in the second half. The defense of Brendan Quinn, Jeremy El Kashash and Ryan O'Donnell were relentless in keeping the ball out of our end and feeding our offense. The offense took note and took care of business. Michael Carrotta got his foot on the ball and didn't give it up, his tenacious play paid off with a hard fought goal midway through the second half. The boys spirits were high, and a few minutes later Peter Restivo scored on a corner kick to the left of the goal to tie the game. And that was how it ended. Alex Ptacek in goal, again showed his outstanding skills and reflexes by making one great save after the next, eleven in all. This was a great team effort and a good sign of things to come. Go Tigers.

Lady Leopards 3 Levittown 1
Dylan started the Leopards' scoring with a corner kick that
went off the goalie's hand into the net. Hannah followed with a second goal, and Dylan completed the Leopardsâ€(tm) scoring with her second goal of the game. Alana's kick off of Taylor's rebound should have counted for goal number 4, but was not seen by the referee. The game was closer than the score would indicate but the strong work of the defense and Carly in the net held Levittown to one goal.

Lady Leopards 1 Baldwin 4
The Lady Leopards played their second away game of the weekend braving 30 degree weather early Sunday morning. The team started allowing 3 goals in the first half. The second half was a different story as the Leopards controlled the play but failed to connect with the lone goal coming off a penalty kick taken by Taylor. The Leopards sustained injures requiring Celeste, Taylor, and Dylan to leave the game and we wish them a speedy recovery. Special thanks to Rob who refereed the game when the official ref did not show.

New Hyde Park Lady Tigers 2 vs. Farmingdale Phoenix 3
It was a day that the Lady Tigers just never seemed to get on track or develop any momentum. The Lady Tigers came out with many close attempts to score by Betsy, Jennifer, Gillian, Bridgette, Jasmine and Erin. Erin scored the first goal of the game with a long and high kick that went in perfectly as the ball dropped in behind the goalie. Keeley made some beautiful passes from the side line but the Farmingdale's defense and goalie were there every time. Farmingdale Phoenix responded quickly with 2 goals before half time. The Lady Tigers were playing catch up with most of the second half with strong kicks by Martha near the midfield line that were caught by the goalie. Gianna relieved Lisa during the second half as goalie. Farmingdale Phoenix was awarded a penalty kick that just got in by a fraction of an inch to take a 3-1 lead. The Lady Tigers tried to come back with Erin on a breakaway that just missed hitting the top of the post. The Lady Tigers scored their second goal with less than a minute left with a perfect corner kick by Martha to Betsy to score. Great effort and spirit demonstrated by the opposing team as they played with no substitute during the whole game. The Lady Tiger's defense had lots of action; good defensive game by Julie, Sabrina and Lalia.

11/11 game: (makeup)
Lady Lynx 6 Franklin Square 1 - The Lady Lynx continued to roll this weekend. Playing a rainout makeup game, the Lynx completed a sweep of their weekend games. The girls used a powerful offense to gain a 6-1 victory. The win was the Lynx six straight victory on the season. Maeve was the story on offense for the Lynx scoring three 1st half goals to surge the Lynx into a lead which they never gave up. Jackie recorded an assist on Maeve's first goal with a pretty feed to her teammate. Keri carried the ball into the offensive zone before dropping a lead pass to her striking teammate to earn an assist. Danniella used her speed to create many scoring opportunities for her linemates. Bianca was super in goal stopping everything Franklin Square could throw her way as the Lynx took 3-0 halftime lead. The second half opened with the Lady Lynx displaying some beautiful passing. Ashley was very unselfish and was constantly feeding the ball to her open teammates. Allison was making excellent crossing passes all game and just missed scoring on a high shot that glanced just off and over the crossbar. Julia T. control the middle of the field with ease as she handled the sweeper duties. Eva added to the Lynx lead on a perfectly placed shot into the upper corner of the net from about 20 yards out. Julie L. was strong in the defensive zone challenging the attacking Franklin Square strikers and advancing the ball to her open teammates. Taylor had a fantastic goal to increase the lead. She took the ball from the opposition with a pretty pull back move and then dribbled around the defense before kicking a bullet past the keeper.Aisling closed out the scoring by controling the ball in the offensive zone and calmly firing it into the goal for her second goal in two games. The Lady Lynx close out their season next week against a tough Norht Shore squad. The girls are having a wonderful season and have grown greatly as a team. Great game Lynx. Go Lady Lynx!
11/10 game:
Lady Lynx 5 Albertson 0 - The weather was breezy, cold and muddy. Despite the obstacles the Lady Lynx were hot. Maeve opened the scoring for the Lynx with a strong shot high into the net. Maeve, who would also collect her second goal later in the contest, played a strong game and was smiling but muddy at the end of the day. Keri, also full of mud, increased the Lynx lead to 2-0 with an outstanding left footed blast which the keeper had no chance of stopping. With the Lynx leading 2-0 Jackie prevented a possible Albertson goal by using her speed and field smarts to angle down a streaking Albertson striker and clear the ball to safety. Taylor did not let the slippery turf slow her down and made some great passes to her teammates. Aisling (Fitzy) increased the lead to 3-0 by taking the ball from the defender and ripping a shot that squeezed by the goal post past the keeper. Julie T. maintained the nets in the first half and despite being quite cold made a few nice saves and used her punts to clear the ball out of the zone. Allison's hustle got the Lynx on the board again in the second half as she out ran her opponent to the ball and crossed it to her waiting teammate, who then passed it on to an open Maeve for the goal. Eva did not let the mud stop her and constantly raced past the opposition by using her quick feet and stong ball skills. Julia L. was very vocal and used her field awareness to correctly position her teammates. She is really becoming a leader on the field. Bianca, who is recovering from a cold, did not seem to miss a beat on the field. She jumped right into the offensive flow and had a several shots at the goal. Danniella also had a number of shots and made some nice passes to open teammates. Her passes skills are getting better each week. Jackie would score the Lynx final goal of the game on a line drive shot past the keeper. Ashley protected the goal in the second half. She made a couple of saves with the best being a redirection of a strong shot which seemed destined for the net. The Lady Lynx continue to play great team soccer. Their passing and teamwork is really starting to come together. It is a direct result of all their hard work. Great game by all. Keep going Lynx!
