TOP Soccer
Our TOPSoccer Program continues to flourish as we had our largest opening day ever! Over 30 energetic players were on the field to kick off our 17th year.
The seniors were pretty evenly matched as the blue team squeaked out a 3-2 win. Stefani Egre led the way with 2 goals and Adam Strominger added the third. The red team fought back as Andrew Abberton and Mike Raihl each scored one, but came up just short. Sebastian Garcia kept the game close with terrific saves in goal. Debbie Chin was the defensive star with great open-field tackles.
The junior contest ended in a 1-1 tie. Several new players have swelled the ranks of this group. Super two-way play by Nick DiSalvio, Tristan Yang and Constantine Lascarides. Exceptional dribbling skills were on display from Emily Bosco and Samantha Duggan.
We'd like to welcome our newest coaches, Lizzy, Aaron, John, Kristen and David. This is one aspect of the program that continues to impress everyone. They learn quickly and have an immediate impact on the athletes with their warmth and patience.
Make your calendars for the NHP TOPSoccer Tournament on Saturday, October 13th at Denton Avenue. Richard Bletsch

NHP Pantherettes 1, Dix Hill Demons 0. The Pantherettes started off the season with a thriller, getting the lone goal in the closing minutes. Goaltending duties were shared by Natalie and Lisa and each one came up with huge game saving saves to preserve the shut out. Five new players made their regular season debut, and showed that they can contribute right away. Farren and Alenie played a tough midfield position by helping keep the ball in the Demons side of the field, which is where it was for most of the game. Teresa found a home as forward, and even took off on a break away that she came close to scoring on. Emma and Kadamburi rounded out the new players' debut by playing stubborn defense and helped keep the Demons off the scoreboard. Besides goal, Lisa played defense coming up with big preserve the shutout. At forward, Brynna, Jenna and Katie had many deep offensive drives. Lauren, Jackie and Brianna played a steady midfield as they controlled the middle of the field and made many great plays. Maria and Natalie split time between defense and midfield and displayed equally great offensive and defensive skills. The overwhelming offensive pressure that the Pantherettes displayed paid off as a final scramble in front of the Demons net ended with a Pantherettes goal finally driven home by Jackie. Great play making by Maria, Jenna, Brynna and Brianna setup the final tally. Great job girls and we miss you Jeanmarie and Julia and we hope to see you soon.

New Hyde Park Lady Tigers 0 vs. Farmingdale United 4
September 8, 2007
It was the first game of the season and the Lady Tigers played their hearts out under the strong hot sun. The girls struggled and worked hard throughout the game and the score does no justice to the stupendous goal tending by Gianna who was substituting for Lisa. Gianna caught many high flying balls but it was those quick, unrelentless attempts that got passed her. Martha and Bridgette had beautiful defensive head buds but our team came up short against the United who were in control for most of the game. Erin and Betsy had a few good runs near the end of the game. The Lady Tigers never gave up albeit the scoreless game. A special welcome to Gillian Lee in her first game with the Lady Tigers and we look forward to a strong season ahead.
Lady Lynx 5 vs Manahasset Blazer 0
U-10
The New Hyde Park U-10 Lady Lynx exploded into the world of travel soccer with an impressive
5-0 victory over the Manhasset squad. Every member of the Lady Lynx contributed to their first win as a travel team. Maeve started the scoring for the Lynx by alertly pouncing on a misplay by the Manhasset goalie and gracefully avoiding the keeper before ripping the cords. Daniella hustled to keep the ball in bounds and sent a beautiful crossing pass to an awaiting teammate. Ashley received the pass and lifted her shot into the upper left corner just over the outstretched keepers finers for a quick 2-0 lead. Allison & Aisling kept offensive pressure on the Blazer's defense with precise passing and ball control. Their hard work was rewarded when they got the ball to a charging Maeve who blew it passed the goalie for her second goal and a 3-0 lead. Aisling increased the lead to 4-0 when she interecepted an attempted clearing pass and fired a low shot into the net. Jackie recorded a couple of shots on goal and made many swift passes to her open teammates. Daniella finished the scoring by a launching high shot into the top of the net. The Lynx defense was especially strong in this contest. Eva centered the defense and started the offense in motion with her crisp clearing passes. Keri and Bianca did a great job stepping up into the offensive end to apply added pressure on the Blazer's defense. Taylor controlled her side of the field using strong kicks with both her left and right leg. Julia T was active on defense and equally strong when asked to play offense in the second half. Julia L. displayed her excellent ball skills and percision passing as the Lynx's kept the ball from the Blazer's to secure the victory. Julia L. & Maeve were sharp in goal. The save opportunities were few but both keepers came up big making saves to secure the shutout. Great job girls! Go Lady Lynx!

Kit Kats 1 vs. POB Wildfire 3 - Kit Kats kicked off their inaugural season with a strong effort on a very hot day against a very good Wildfire team. Our girls played a terrific game and demonstrated good passing and improved spacing. All team members are showing good ball control and the ability to get by defenders with quick efficient moves. It is very exciting watching the girls gain confidence as they display their soccer skills. We loved Jessica Fox and Isabel Ryan controlling the midfield and making dangerous drives on offense. Jessica also did a nice job playing goalie in the first half Brittany Apuzza and Laura Rountree were solid defensively and supported the attack with timely passes. The dangerous duo of Taylor Cosme and Mikaela Kelly always give the Kit Kats an all out effort and it paid off as Mikaela made a timely assist to Taylor who blasted the ball into the back of the net. Tara Sirotkin played a great game and we are looking forward to seeing more of her speed and quick moves this season. Katya Keblish and Catherine Saketos were both fierce fighters and adept dribblers getting around defenders all over the pitch. The coach appreciated Gabrielle Berger's hard work on the field and for helping the Kit Kats out at goalie on very short notice. Also defending the net well were Amanda Zeitlin, Sarahelena Barrios. It was nice to see Sarahelena's strong offensive skills and Amanda's power on the field in addition to their goaltending. The Kit Kats are showing a great deal of improvement over the last two and half months. We are excited to see how good this young team will become as they continue to improve. Go Kit Kats!!!

We were treated to a very exciting game this Sunday between the Panthers and Cubs. For the Panthers, Alannah O'Shea and Zoe Araujo scored some very exciting goals. Our goal keepers, Shayna Zeitlin and Bonnie Charles did an awesome job of defending our goal and spreading the ball out to their teammates. Jackie Courtesis, Camryn Finkel, Ally Petricca and Camryn Weinbaum all did a termendous job on both offense and defense, passing and clearing the ball throughout the game. Hannah Weinbaum and Ciara Lennon literally covered the entire field on defense and displayed teriffic passing skills on offense. It was a scorching hot day, but the Panthers hustled for the duration of the game and played with great enthusiasm.
FIRECATS -3 MUNCHKINS - 2 n a very hot and steamy September afternoon, the Firecats and Munchkins opened the GU8 season in style with a high scoring and well-played game that could have gone either way. The Munchkin attack was led by Sophie Michaels, who scored a goal off a very nice cut-back move in the first half, Sophia Leeds who slammed in a hard goal into an open net in the second half, and Kaitlyn Krems who had 3 very nice runs up field that just resulted in shots just wide of net. Each of these players had multiple chances to score. The defense was led by Mackenzie Griffin, Olivia Baez, Theodora Papadoniou, Casey Bordouas, and Bethany Ambrosio who each played very well and broke up multiple Firecat attacks. Kira Crehan did an outstanding job taking the ball wide on D and at Midfield and passing up field. Ashley Lasko and Hailey Lynch did a super job chipping in from midfield and the forward positions. In goal, Kira Crehan made 6 super saves in the first half and Deirdre Lynch finished up in goal, making multiple sparkling saves. Fine game all-around by both teams considering the elements and the larger than expected size of the field.
Pink Mustangs vs. Lady Tigers - Frances Carratelli started things for the Pink Mustangs with a perfect pass to Natalie Schlueck for the first goal of the game. That broke the ice and the offense was able to score additional goals by Kayla Fitzpatrick, Frances Carratelli, Amanda Choy and Camille Bangug. Great goaltending and long clearing kicks by Samantha Zebitsch . Isabelle Brenes shut down several breakways. Great shots on goal by Alyssa Garcia.
Cub vs. Panthers - Today was a hot day and a hot start to the new fall season with the Cubbies taking on a the Panthers. Our offense looked good at first but was turned away by a swarming Panthers team. Our defense was powered by Emily Budhram, Elisa Gonzalez, Marissa Cronin, Siobhan McMullen and Alice Tartaro but were beat by some good attacking offensive team of the Panthers. Camryn Dluginski had the hard task of goaltending the first half making a few good saves but the Panthers struck fast and hard. Jaime Mooney played her best at goaltender in the second half also with some good saves. Great job by both my goaltenders today. The Cubbies saw some spark of hope from the offensive trio of Olivia Lugo, Samantha Katsanos, and Katie Meegan with some good team passing for a goal but was over turned on an off-sides call. Samantha on the next play made sure she got that goal back for the Cubs as she quick stole the ball and put it back into the net. Katie Meegan also had a great break away and was awarded her goal as the Panthers goal tender was inside the goal. The Cubs just came up short and end up with their first loss of the season. We'll get them next time girls, good game. The Cubs missed the help of Emily Price.

Great goaltending by Sean McClellan and Colin Neubert. Thomas Haug and Bailey Lee played excellent support for the team. It was a hot one and the Lightning were definitely feeling the heat. We started out the first half with James Castaldi, Jason Giamarino and Justin Pumillo on Forward. Dylan Edwards and James Connolly on Defense along with Gabriel Rodriguez in Goal. David Escorcia was left in midfield to do a lot of running. They put up a strong fight and hustled but ended the first half down by 2. We had two late arrivals Niko Gounaris and Zachary Rotstein; the team was more than happy to see them because now they could have a break. The second half played out much better. Niko Gounaris, Gabriel Rodriguez, and Dylan Edwards worked hard and put the ball right in front of the Lion's goal and after a few shots by each of them, Lightning scored their first goal of the game. Lightning really stepped up there game and David Escorcia scored the second goal. The Lions scored two more that half, making the final score 4-2 the Lions. It was a great first game Lightning!
Tigersharks vs. Tigers - With no subs and merciless sun and heat beating down on seven Tigersharks the kids played a fabulous game against Coach Danny's talented Tigers. In a battle of two dangerous soccer predators the Tigersharks were led by the inspired play of Phillip Chang and Marty Koch. Both Players covered the field tirelessly, defending and attacking furiously. Areeb Ahsan showed great energy and speed clearing all balls on his zone and passing to his teammates. Dylan Singh was a force on the wings controlling the ball and making strong drives up field. James and John Denara were terrific on both ends of the field. James' powerful drives and smart decisions are a great asset to the Tigersharks. John's speed and good ball control will be fun to watch throughout the season. The coaching staff was most pleased with the resurgence of Jeremy Barrios who has come out of retirement to display his speed, skill, passion and played the best game of his soccer career. The fans were thrilled to see this very exciting match, the smiles on the players' faces and the great effort put forth by both teams. Congratulations to all who participated in this game. We REALLY missed Christopher Capodanno, Joshua Chacko and Robert Sirotkin. Get well soon Robert. Go Tigersharks !!!
