The last Monday in August was the finale of another successful season of the ultra-popular senior program entitled Funday Monday held at North Hempstead Town's beautiful Bar Beach, run under the capable hand of the Commissioner of the Department of Community Services, Madge Kaplan, and her wonderful staff.

Many of the seniors are picked up in buses throughout the town and the rest come by their own cars, and on that day no fee is charged for parking at the park. This year the program started with the second Monday in July and ran from 10 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. every Monday.

The program also offered line dancing lessons every week at 9:30 a.m. and there were board games available for anyone interested. Each week was a different entertainment theme, and on July 16 an information and assistance fair, co-sponsored by the Nassau County Department of Senior Citizen Affairs.

This year the seniors had a Country Western Day, a Salute to the Fifties Day, a Hawaiian Day, Grandparents Day, Frank Sinatra Day and to end it all, a Patriotic Day when many of the seniors came in red, white and blue outfits. Truly a fun time was had by everyone.

The majority of the seniors will now go back to their regular senior clubs that usually meet weekly. The town will announce after the first of the year when and where they will hold a gala reunion of the Funday Monday group, which is another hugely popular event.
