Opinion

I attended the Aug. 13 meeting of the NHP-GCP School Board (along with hundreds of others) but I left before asking any question about the Christmas concert issue because, right from the start, it appeared to me that the board was going to be too intimidated to enforce its three-minute limit on questioners.

My question involves a statement made at the previous meeting by the president or someone else on the school board relating to the reason for proposing changes in the name and date of the Christmas Concert. She (?) said that the influx of other cultures into our neighborhood makes it necessary for the board to appeal to "foreign" cultures, as well as to the Christian culture, that has been predominant in our neighborhood in the past.

All well and good, but did anyone from these foreign cultures demand or request that the Christmas Concert changes be made? I seriously doubt it. I didn't see any members of such different cultures at last night's meeting. How did the board know that any of these cultures would want, or even be interested in, changes in the Christmas Concert? Did they use a Ouija board?
