Gloria L. Hess, 81, a resident of Albertson since 1952, died on June 21, 2007. She was born June 17, 1926. She worked at Woolworth's Five and Ten in Astoria part time while she was a student at Bryant High School in Woodside. Upon graduation she was a civilian employee of the US Army Signal Corp., producing training films during WWII and worked at First National City Bank, Wall Street and Bethlehem Steel, LI City. She was a past matron and 60-year member of Mineola Chapter #716 Order of the Eastern Star, past junior deputy of Catherine Schwartz Triangle. She was a member of the Community Church of East Williston where she sang in the choir for over 40 years.
Gloria was predeceased by her mother Dorothy (nee Santanna) and father Joseph Garcia. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Curtis T.; son Curtis J. (Catherine); granddaughter Virginia; son Roger C.(Diane); granddaughter Sarah; sister Joyce Gravestock; and nieces, Audrey Garcia and Susan Nikalone.
Gloria will be remembered lovingly by many whose lives she touched for her wit, feistiness, humor, genuine interest and caring for others.
Arrangements were made by the Weigand Bros. Funeral Home, Williston Park. Funeral services were held at the Community Church of East Williston under the direction of Pastor Ted Grant. Interment Nassau Knolls Cemetery.
