We would like to invite all interested Herricks community members to attend the unveiling of the new concert grand piano donated by Herricks parents and community members. The unveiling will take place at the Tri-M induction and Senior Music Awards program at Herricks High School at 6 p.m. on Monday, June 4. This is a very special event under normal circumstances. The unveiling of the new piano makes it even more so. The generosity of the members of the Herricks Music Boosters Association, the Chinese American Association of North Hempstead and an anonymous parent is extraordinary. It will certainly enhance the quality of the music program in Herricks for many years to come.

This has been an extraordinary year for music in Herricks. Some of the most notable recognitions achieved by Herricks students include:

• 32 students were selected for All-State by the New York State Music Educators Association, the most in Herricks history and the most of any district in New York State in 2006.

• Herricks was once again selected as one of the 100 Best Music Programs in the country by the American Music Council.

• The Herricks Tri-M Music Honor Society has been named "International Chapter of the Year" four times within the past decade.

• Our elementary, middle school and high school bands, orchestras and choruses continue to earn the highest ratings at evaluation festivals.

• Participation in performance music at Herricks soars above national averages.
