Anthony Perrone, of New Hyde Park, is running for New Hyde Park/Garden City Park school board trustee against announced candidate Annette Giarratani.

Anthony Perrone
Perrone was born in Queens, attended St. Francis Prep High School, graduating in 1975. He then attended Queens College and graduated in 1980 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting and became a Certified Public Accountant in 1983. Since 1993 Perrone has been a Managing Partner in Perlman, Schleifer & Perrone, CPA's, a small CPA firm based in Commack. He has extensive experience in tax, fund accounting, internal controls and municipal auditing.

He and his wife Angela have two children. Anthony, who is in the 10th grade at New Hyde Park Memorial High School and Nicholas, who is a 6th grader at the Garden City Park School.

Perrone was a board member and coach for the New Hyde Park Wildcats Soccer Club for eight years. He was a coach at both the Merillon Little League Association and at Notre Dame CYO Basketball.

Further, he is an active fundraiser for CYO, Merillon Association, Wildcats, Gladiator Fund, Notre Dame PAVE and Garden City Park School PTA.

Perrone said, "I want to be a New Hyde Park School Board trustee because I have lived in New Hyde Park for the past 18 years and have watched the community thrive. I have seen damage done in other communities, namely Roslyn, whose school board was perhaps not doing their job.

"In this age of corporate governance and increased monitoring of internal control procedures, I believe my work experience puts me in a position to be a valuable trustee. I will use my experience to ensure that the taxpayers' money is properly spent and attempt to find areas of savings through proper internal control of expenditures and cash management.

"I am a big fan of the current members of the school board and believe I can work with them in formulating a budget that will make our schools the centerpiece of a wonderful community and build on some of the programs currently in place.

"I am most proud of our new library on Lakeville Road and would like to work with the library trustees to ensure the continuation of the programs for the community.

"Finally, I am a person who always keeps his eye on the bottom line. We need school budgets that all members of the community can live with."

The New Hyde Park/Garden City Park School Board vote will be held on May 15 from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Manor Oaks School, 1950 Hillside Avenue, New Hyde Park. At that time the residents of New Hyde Park/Garden City Park School District will be voting for the trustees as well as the New Hyde Park/Garden City Park school budget, the Sewanhaka Central High School budget and the Hillside Library budget.
