Princesses 0 Kickin Kittens 1 - The schedule said it was the opening game of the season for both of these talented teams but the skills they displayed made it seem like a playoff game. The Princesses and the Kittens showed great team work and passing skills providing their family and friends with many proud moments. The Princesses goaltenders Crista, Nicole and Kayla were tremendous stopping all of the Kittens shots after allowing an early goal. Jessica led a strong defensive effort advancing the ball into the offensive zone with her strong dribbling rtalents. Brittany, back on the Princesses defense, actively challenging the Kittens Kickers and patrolled the defensive zone with great confidence. Catherine played a little defense some offense and looked equally skilled on both sides of the ball. The offensive attack was in full gear creating many quality scoring opportunities. Tara played a solid game for the Princesses. She was very aggressive and create a couple of scoring chances for herself and her teammates. Ashley also played a strong game and had a number of shots on goal and nearly tied the game as time winded down. New comer Lauren made a great impression in her first Wildcats game. Aquired on waivers from Saint Aidan's she played with a lot of fire and emotion, really giving her teammates a lift. It was a wonderful opening game for both teams. Congratulations for all the girls. Kickin' Kittens vs. Princesses - The spring 2007 edition of the Kickin' Kittens is an exciting and energetic ensemble. With a mix of solid veteran players and enthusiastic newcomers, the Kittens' followers expect great things from this group. In their season opener the Kittens demonstrated skill, sportsmanship and teamwork. The girls faced a very determined Princess team who gave the Kittens all they could handle. Fortunately, our Kittens' terrific defense and strong goal tending earned them a one nothing victory. Jackie Castaldi was able to take advantage of a small opening in the Princess' defense for the game winner. Two of our new players, Amanda Zeitlin and Samantha Zebitsch, did a terrific job on goal and Amanda showed great hustle and Samantha played strong defense on the field. In one of her best games ever, Catherine Saketos was tenacious. Isabel Ryan put her best foot forward and was very impressive with her ball control. Skyler Woo and Sage Rosenthal gave the Kittens energy with runs up the field. Bianca Gadze excelled both on offense and on defense. Sarahelena Barrios also demonstrated her versatility playing all over the field. Iris Fan displayed the tough side of the Kittens by coming back and playing strong after taking a hard shot to the face during the first half. The rest of the Kittens team is made up of Gabrielle Berger, Eva Chan and Ashley Vicente who were not able to make the game. Congratulations to both teams for well played game and kudos to the Princess for a great effort despite being short handed. Keep on Kickin' Kittens!

New Hyde Park Lady Tigers 1 vs. Levittown Panthers 1

March 31, 2007

It was a tough first game of the season for the Lady Tigers playing with only 9 girls on the team. Martha Keller played goalie for most of the game and kept the other team at bay by catching and blocking many goal attempts. Betsy Tannenbaum had a few good attempts at the goal early on with near misses. Laila Chadli and Erin Rivera were strong on the defense and pushed the ball up to the offensive team with beautifully passes. Jennifer Louie tried to set up a goal kick with a pass to Betsy but the ball deflected off the goal post. Julie Kennedy also had a nice corner kick set up to Gianna Ferrante that merely missed to the right of the goal. While the girls from both teams played feverously to score, Martha Keller continued to catch the balls as they came at her. It was at the middle of the second half when Betsy Tannenbaum kicked a ball high dead center that went over the goalie and dropped right behind her that gave the Lady Tigers the first goal of the season. Sabrina Posadas relived Martha as the goalie with less than 5 minutes left and made a beautiful safe against a quick breakaway. The Levittown Panthers were charging left and right in front the goal and finally scored after 3 attempts with less than 2 minutes left to play. It was a tough fought game. Good game girls. We missed you Lisa, Bridgette and Jasmine.

Division New Hyde Park Lady Tigers 1 vs. Kings Park Lady Lightning

Waldbaum's Cup - April 1, 2007

It was almost an instant replay of the day before but the Lady Tigers had10 girls playing today, with Martha Keller playing goalie for the entire game. Betsy Tannenbaum had a few good goal attempts from the right and left side of the goal early on in the game. Martha Keller was excellent in goal and got a complete game shutout. On one sequence, Martha held the Lightning at bay when they had 3 consecutive attempts that hit off the top of the goal post. Each time was very close. Laila Chadli and Erin Rivera played solid defense throughout the entire game. Jasmine Bustos, Gianna Ferrante, Julie Kennedy, Jennifer Louie, Keeley McGrath, Sabrina Posadas and Betsy Tannenbaum played forward and midfield for most of the games and each girl had good attempts that nearly missed the goal or was blocked by the goalie. It was Betsy Tannenbaum's quick break away that scored the one and only goal for the team. Betsy rushed toward the center of the goal and shot it straight up above the goalie's head. The Lightning had a penalty kick near the end of the game. Betsy playing defensive leaped high into the air and using her head deflected a high flying goal attempt to preserve the win for the Lady Tigers. It was a well played game by both teams and enjoyable to watch. Keep it up girls. Hope you feel better Bridgette and we miss you Lisa.
