Manor Oaks School closed its PARP (Parents as Reading Partners) program with a presentation from Yoga Under the Sea. This production was a relaxing blend of yoga, creative movement, music, storytelling and imagery.
Beth Hagedorn told the students amazing facts about life under the sea while teaching techniques that promote healthy life skills. Many of the stories were based on her first-hand experiences as a scuba diver.
Then Nurse Hagedorn taught the children breathing techniques that produce relaxation. She also showed them how imagery allowed them to focus better and minimize outside distractions that could create obstacles for learning.
The children seemed mesmerized by her stories and truly enjoyed the graceful movements that yoga involves. Since this year's theme for PARP was "Dive Into Reading," Yoga Under the Sea was a wonderful way to wrap up the program.
