Several relatives of 9/11 victims have joined with New York State Senate Republicans to warn that if a Gov. Eliot Spitzer campaign promise is carried out, terrorists would have an easy time obtaining driver's licenses. Gov. Spitzer promised to "relax the law" that requires applicants for driver's licenses provide verifiable Social Security numbers. Senate Republicans are prepared to introduce a bill to block this change if Gov. Spitzer proceeds with this questionable change.

A driver's license is a privilege, not a right. Driver's licenses are especially not a right for individuals who want to game our system in order to harm us. As time goes on, the likelihood of another terrorist attack on our soil increases. It took eight years for the second World Trade Center attack to take place. Now, more than ever, we need to be more vigilant, not less. That includes our new governor.
