Reminder - Saturday, October 21, 2006, at 9:00 a.m. NHP will host it's 9th annual TOPSoccer Tournament at the Denton Avenue fields. Hope to see you there. A beautiful fall day greeted our soccer players last Saturday as they got in a final tune-up for next week's tournament. The junior match pitted the players against the coaches and it looks like the team is in high gear. The players racked up an 8-5 pounding of the coaches with goals flying from everywhere. Ryan McCurry had three goals, Julius Sum added two more. Harrison Stein and Samantha Duggan put in one each. And guest players Jaclyn and Charles (penalty kick) also scored. The coaches feeble offense had two "own goals" and one apiece by Amy, Maiken and Brianna.
The seniors battled to a 5-2 final score. Stefani Egre had a "hat trick" and Matt Saraiva put in 2 more for the victorious blue side. The red team answered with goals by Andrew Abberton and Mack Perry.

On a chilly Sunday October afternoon, with the the leaves fallin' and winter callin', the G-Bears and Bratz hooked up in a match up of 2 teams that have played very very well this season. The G-Bears were without their acrobatic Goalie, Jackie Courtesis, so we knew it would be tough to keep the quick-firing Bratz-attackz out of the net, but the all-rookie goalie tandem of Emily Paul, Crystal Thomas and Kristen Granieri all played super between the pipes and made several outstanding saves to keep things close. We were very proud of goalies today - diving on loose balls, and making some great outlet passes. On D, Edna Dudek was outstanding - clearing the ball wide and then dribbling up field with a ton of energy and determination. Deirdre Lynch and Mackenzie Griffin were also standouts on D - both with some super sweeps of the goal mouth, followed by hard clears down the line to our midfielders. Kira Crehan and Samantha Katsanos spent most of our game at midfield and did a fine job of both attacking the goal and then getting back to help the D. Each had several nice chances to score and each made some fantastic passes to the fwds who were ready and waiting to drive the ball up-field. Sophia Leeds, Marcela Curcio and Kaitlyn Krems led the attack on goal, with several dangerous runs down field, super crossing passes, and some hard shots that just missed. The girls again played very well today - I saw some beautiful passes up the sidelines from our D to our middies and then from the middies to the fwds, we stayed on-side on all of our runs down field, the D did a great job of taking the ball wide, the goal-tending was crisp and they all did a super job covering up loose balls. By and large, the girls held their positions - I continue to be extremely proud of their development as a team - passing, shooting, positioning as a team - and they are a bunch of fine young ladies to boot. Keep up the good work, girls!! Practice - Saturday at 10 a.m.
Bratz vs. Grizzly Bears - It was a great day for soccer and the crowd could feel the excitement that all the girls felt as they took the field to play. The Bratz played the G. Bears for the second time this season and the crowd was ready to see some great soccer. The Bratz showed everyone all the great things that they have been practicing all season long. The offense showed explosive speed as they drove the ball in to the open field and attacked the G. Bears goal. The defense controlled the middle of the field with a combination of hard stops, good communication as the defenders supported each other and smart passes to the open players on offense. The goalies kept a vigilant watch over the field waiting to snap up any loose balls. The Bratz were powered by Emma Aquino, Camryn Dluginski, Jacqueline Diffley, Camryn Finkel, Elise Gonzalez, Erica Lorenzana, Katie Meegan, Stephanie Peteroy, Emma Quinn, Sarah Reigrod, Victoria Tarrega and Michelle Wisnewski.

Kickin' Kittens vs. Thundercats - In an exhilarating encounter between two ferocious felines the Kittens faced the Thundercats. In a sun drenched morning these two teams thrilled their fans with their exciting play. The action was non stop with Jackie Castaldi leading the charge for the Kittens. Jackie's relentless effort and prodigious anticipation created many dangerous drives. We were pleased to see that after the Columbus Day break Crista LaRock came back rejuvenated and played with great energy. Catherine Saketos skillfully defended her side and showed much more aggressiveness on offense. Kayla Ciccone excelled in our set plays and made a great pass to get our offense started. The return of Amanda Namendorf energized the team and she made some terrific throw-ins. Sarahelena Barrios heads up defense and good passing keeps the Kittens clicking. Although somewhat under the weather, Eva Chan gave her usual outstanding effort and really opened up the field with wide runs and timely crosses into the box. Taylor Cosme
had some near misses on offense and was fearless on defense. Bianca Gadze covered a lot of ground with her quickness and energy and played a great game. Isabel Ryan forceful attack in the second half had the defense scattering inside the box. The Kittens offensive pressure was intense but they were not able to score versus the tough T-Cats. Numerous balls skirted the goal line generating many gray hairs on the coach's head and bringing the fans to their feet. The Kittens are grateful for the two solid performances by their two goalies, Ashley Vicente and Skyler Woo. Sklyler in her first ever appearance as goalie made an amazing save in the first half and Ashley also made a terrific play to prevent a score in the second half. The Kittens only gave up one goal, and although they got close on many attempts, our favorite felines were not able to capitalize. Congratulations to the Thundercats for a well earned one to nothing victory. We missed Alexandra Rivera. Hope you feel better soon. Thank you to all the parents and soccer fans for coming out and cheering on the girls. Remember, keep on kickin' Kittens.
Princesses 0 vs Angles 2 - The Princesses played very well against a strong Angle's team this week. Despite a lot of offensive pressure the Princesses were not able to crack thru the Angel's defense. All the Princesses gave their best effort right up to the final whistle. Jane and McKenzie split the game in goal for the Princesses with both girls making smart decisions and great saves. Ashley played a lot on defense this week and combined with Brittany to anchor the defense for the Princesses with several good plays. Jessica and Taylor bounced between offense and defense and both were sharp and quick to the ball. Daniella had several strong drives to the goal and destined to score until the solid Angle's defense stopped her at the last second. Marisa just missed scoring this week as she continues to improve each week. Iris is really starting to develop her game and was much more aggressive this week. Jailene, also was active on offense and should be scoring her first goal in the up coming weeks. Catherine helped to control the midfield for the Princesses while confidently carrying the ball into the offensive zone. The girls continue to play hard each week with the hope of hitting their stride just in time for the playoffs. Keep up the great effort girls and good things will happen. Go Princesses Angels VS. Little Princesses - On a cool crisp sunny Sunday the Angels took on the Little Princesses at Manor Oaks Field. This was a rematch and it went much the way as the first contest. In the first period Michaela continuously started offensive charges assisted by Tara, Maeve, Keri and Sage. On defense Nicole was clearing the ball out of the zone with support from Gabriella, Ashley and Dana. The defense was so tenacious that Katya in the goal did not have much work, but she turned away all the shots that came her way. Suddenly Gabriella passed into the offensive zone to Sage who sent the ball to Michaela then it was over to Maeve on the right side and she kicked the ball past the sprawling goalie. After Maeve's goal the Princesses put a lot of pressure on the defense as continually Ashley then Dana cleared the ball out of the zone. The first half ended 1-O in favor of the Angels. The second half mirrored the first with Michaela clearing out of the defensive zone to Sage down the right sideline and Maeve taking over and scoring the second goal of the game. With the score at 2-0 Maeve went to defense to help protect the lead. With Tara in goal and Dana, Ashley, and Nicole anchoring the defense the Princesses were held scoreless in the second half. The game ended with Dana clearing the ball in front of the net to start the offense as Katya took the ball down the field as a final shot on goal by Keri was turned away.

3 Cheers to the NHP Lady Stormcats for their valiant effort on their return to regular season play against Manhasset today!! Today's game had a little bit of everything in its mix and through it all, the girls played with all their hearts from start to finish. Great effort: Roshni Amin, Samantha Athenas, Alicia Brewer, Amanda Cavallaro, Dana Davis, Kelly Kerrane, Gina Marrano, Patricia McMullan, Jennifer Morga, Alexandra Pappacena, Emily Rennie and Melanie Sferrazza. I mentioned to the parents after the game a few suggestions about forgetting about talking about the game on the ride home, but i didn't follow my advice... although it was fun listening to Gina and Amanda tell me their version of the game and how they felt about the officiating, and then, the laughter followed when Gina said.." ...gee Dad,I never heard you yell at a ref like that before!" ohh well.....the games over and its off to the Homecoming Parade and Football game........we'll get 'em next week! Lady Jaguars 1-1 Syosset - The Lady Jaguars played a tough Division 1 game this week against the undefeated Syosset Arsenal. The Lady Jags were happy to have Erica Sousa back as stopper. Erica has been out with an injured ankle. The Arsenal scored first on a lucky, long kick from the right corner. The Lady Jags played tough defense and their offense kept the pressure on the Syosset keeper. Gabriella Tomasini evened the score for the Lady Jags with a great left-footed shot set up by a pass from Brie Ruane. The Lady Jaguar offense was sparked by terrific play from Alison Ricchiuti, Mary Kate Sheehan, Tara Feehan, Vicky Caccamo, Ailish Malone, Jillian Graziano and Vincenza Decrescenzo. They really kept the Arsenal defense on their toes! The Lady Jaguar defense was led by the terrific play of Erica Sousa, Julianne Randazzo, Meaghan Ginty and Emma McGrath. Lady Jag keeper
Ashley Tuffy, (celebrating her 12th birthday!), prevented the Arsenal from scoring by coming out of the net and turning their offense back again and again. The first half ended with the score tied at one goal apiece. The second half was a battle between the two teams. Both teams¢ offense took the ball down the field only to be turned back by their opponents defense. Both teams had opportunities to pull ahead but could not convert them to goals. The whistle ended the game with the score still tied at 1 goal each. The Lady Jags
were happy with the result and proud to have played such an outstanding game. They face Levittown next week in what will surely be another battle. Go Lady Jaguars! This weekly recap was written by Christine Castiglione, with help from Jillian Stacom. Both Lady Jags are currently on the injured list and look forward to getting back in action.

Pantherettes 4, Manhasset Tigers 0. The Pantherettes played a well positioned and controlled the game throughout the day. The goals were scored by Ellen, Maria and two by Jackie. Even though the Pantherettes controlled most of the game, the goals were a result of determination, good positioning and hard work. Jennifer and Maria kept the Tigers off the score board by making key saves and well placed punts that got the ball down field and out of harms way. Ellen and Lisa made great corner kicks that were deposited into the opposing team's goal crease. They did not result in goals, but it certainly kept the Tigers on their toes. The defensive tandem of Lisa, Jennifer, Natalie C and Natalie B kept the Tigers from making any real scoring chances. The forward positions were shared by Brynna, Jenna, Jackie and Jeanmarie who created many offensive opportunities. The midfield positions were shared by Lauren, Julia, Ellen and Brianna. They were able to control the flow of the game with excellent defensive stops and great passing and ball control to move the ball upfield and create scoring chances. Great game and good luck against Little Neck in the battle for second place.

October 7th and 8th
Game 1 Pantherettes 0, POB Cyclones 3. In the first game of the tournament, the Pantherettes were able to dominate the play, but could not put any balls into the net. The Cyclones capitalized on three well worked offensive plays. Outside of that, the Pantherettes kept the ball mostly in the Cyclones side of the field.
Game 2 Pantherettes 2, Brooklyn Patriots Strikers 2. In a great match against the eventual winner of the pool, the Pantherettes were able to play a well positioned and hard fought tie. The Strikers had great ball control and movement, but the Pantherettes were able to match up against a very good and disciplined team. Great saves and big goals prevented the Strikers from taking this game away from the Pantherettes.
Game 3 Pantherettes 2, Plainedge Magic 5. Against an opponent that the Pantherettes have met two other times in tournament play, the Pantherettes had their chances, but the Magic proved to be too much to handle. With a 3 to 0 lead, the Pantherettes stormed back with two goals, but two late goals by the Magic put the game out of reach for the Pantherettes.
Game 4 Pantherettes 0, RVC Blasters 0. The last game provided the most exciting game of all. In an up and down battle, each team could have scored at any time. Each team provided great timely defensive plays and last minute clutch saves by each team's goaltenders. At the end, each team's players could barely stand, but shook each other's hands with pride to congratulate each other in a well played match. The tournament's goaltenders were Jennifer, Maria and Natalie C. They faced many shots and came up with brilliant saves. The forwards positions were shared by Jenna, Brynna, and Jackie who showed great ball movements and well placed shots. Our midfield was fielded by Ellen, Lauren, Julia, Brianna and Jeanmarie who controlled the flow of the game. Midfield is a new position for us, and these girls have stepped up and played it well. Defensively we had Lisa, Natalie B, Natalie C, Jennifer and Maria. They worked hard and they kept their team in each and every game. Some of the girls got a little banged up during the games, but each one was able to get up recover and eventually keep playing. Great playing girls and keep it going.
Lady Bengals 1 Rockville Center 3 - Our Lady Bengals took their first loss of the season to a talented Rockville Center soccer team. The defense was solid as Meagan Lotti, Gina Cacchioli, Kathy Kariotis, Ariana Bruschi, Allison Hand and Christine Bunyon all played well. The midfielders attacked our opponents with great determination. Our lone goal was scored when Alexa Epstein fought for the ball on the right side of the field sending a bouncing ball in front of the net and Katherine McCune picked up the loose ball and sent a rocket into the back of the net. Or goalkeeper, Claire Lanzo was tough in goal making many saves. Claire was injured and Rachel Hand too over in goal and also made several outstanding saves. Lastly the Lady Bengals defensive rock, Meagan Lotti took a bad fall and fractured her wrist. We all wish Meagan a speedy recovery and we will miss her on the field! Get better Claire and Meagan!!
Lady Leopards 2, Old Bethpage 5 - Old Bethpage quickly had the advantage in the game with an early goal. New Hyde Park soon answered with a goal of their own. Danielle Michaels brought the ball up and made a great cross to Kaitlin Shea who was perfectly positioned to score the goal and tie the game. Old Bethpage scored a second goal. In response, Danielle moved in on the net, and scored her team's second goal. Unfortunately, Old Bethpage had four more goals over the course of the game that the Lady Leopards were not able to match. Our offense was thwarted by some great goalie work. Despite several good runs, and impressive footwork, Dylan Livers, Nicole DeSouza, Taylor Ross, and Hannah Zeitlin were stopped by the opposing defense each time they were in position to add to the goal total. Midfielders Madison Cascio, Antonella Cotilletta, and Rebecca Lewis positioned themselves to return the ball to the offense and keep the action near Old Bethpage's net. Alana Cohen went deep with the ball, bringing it up the side, past Old Bethpage defenders. Our defense was fearless as usual. Eve Rigas, back from a game related injury, and Caroline Weinberg were solid. Throw-ins, handled largely by Alana in the first half, and Sofie Klapow in the second, were all well directed. Our goalie was Celeste Lyons who moved in on two saves. Our next game is also an early one, so set those alarm clocks!
U10 Lady Tigers 4 Lynbrook 1 - It was our fourth game of the season against Lynbrook with full attendance and the Lady Tigers played another beautiful game rotating their positions throughout the game. It was a balanced and total team effort with each goal scored by a different player. First was Gianna Ferrante who was in position to follow through after Betsy Tannenbaum's kick deflected off the goalie. Sabrina Posadas almost scored the second goal but it was deflected by the goalie. Martha Keller playing her position well; she kicked a powerful high shot using the side of her foot to score the second goal. Martha played a strong all around game, helping out with several defensive stops. During the second half, Jennifer Louie's pass across the field to Keeley McGrath who kicked the ball straight and hard right into the goal to score the third goal. Jasmine Bustos had many good attempts and was determined to score. She finally had a breakaway and scored the fourth goal for the team. Our goalie, Lisa Pellegrino played a strong game blocking many attempts by Lynbrook throughout the game. Julie Kennedy gave Lisa some relief and blocked two more close attempts by Lynbrook. The defensive team of Bridgette Stacom, Erin Rivera, Laila Chadi, Jennifer and Betsy turned back the Lynbrook attackers throughout the whole game. It was an exciting game to watch both offensively and defensively.

Stray Cats vs. Plainview-Old Bethpage - Super effort by all the Stray Cat players in a hard-fought 3-1 defeat to an elite Plainview team. The first half was a battle from start to finish. The Plainview team came out strong, but the Stray Cats defense - Billy Stevens, Tyler Carrick, Stephan Eranovic, Matthew Huhn, Bryan O'Neill, and Ryan Korzevinski - played heroically, while stopping Plainview's offensive threats time after time. Goalie Andrew Blumenson made seven amazing saves this half to keep the game close. Trailing 1-0 in the second half, the Cats came out fighting. Forwards/Midfielders Austin Ward, Chris Ferlazzo, Ciaran Stack, Gerard Farrell, and Alex Spinoccia - all put the pressure on and moved the ball nicely. After trailing 2-0, the Cats got on the board. Midfielder Steven Cacchioli found himself open 20 feet from the net, fired a bullet through traffic and by the keeper to put the Cats within a goal. Plainview scored late to put the game out of reach. But the Stray Cats should be proud of the effort they gave today. Great game Stray Cats!!!

Lightning vs. Panthers - This was a great back and forth game; both teams were at their best! Lightning played strong, showing exceptional teamwork and skills on the field. James Connolly, Dylan Edwards and Christopher Kerrane started out strong on forward pushing the ball into the Panthers end. They were backed up by David Escorcia and Justin Pumillo on mid field; exceptional job covering your positions boys. Cleber Guaman and Terry McMenamin were ready to attack on defense and cleared the ball each time it came into their area. The Panthers made a nice shot on us which Gabriel Rodiguez saved with a full body block! Thomas Haug had his eye on the Panthers at all times and hustled to keep Lightning in control. Niko Gounaris did a nice job in goal first half and then drove the ball upfield during the second half where he passed to David Escorcia and the goal was scored. Kevin Olsen is doing outstanding; you did a great job on defense clearing the ball and following through. Justin Pumillo became the "master of the goal" for the second half; He was ready at all times, making numerous saves. David Escorcia made four nice goals this week with the help of all his teammates! Congrats Lightning!!

Crew vs. Red Bulls - On Saturday October 14th a great game was played by both the Crew and the Red Bulls. Scoring was fast and plentiful for both sides that ended up in a 5-5 tie. For the Red Bulls the scoring was quick and sharp by both Mattew Vowinkel and Matty Lorandini. For the Crew goals came from Alexander Bracco and some great shots by Brian Saramago. The mid field was busy all day long and Fernando Robayo, Nicholas Favale and Thomas Daily kept the ball moving for the Red Bulls. For the Crew the mid field was being held just as strong by Bryan Wu, Anthony Depompeis, Tlyer Baron and Zachary Fazekas. Goal tending was no easy job this day and Both Jose Marulanda and Jack Nutall for the red bulls did an excellent job. just as good on the other side of the field was Luke Laurino and Kevin Keenan for the Crew. Both teams worked very hard for the tie and in the eyes of everyone watching they both came out winners. Great job guys.
Fire vs. Extreme - Nice match today by the boys on team Fire against a tough Extreme squad. There was some excellent passing done today. Hard work at the forward position by John Kilcullen, Matthew Martinucci and Daniel Zvi led to two nice goals by Christian Carrick. Billy Zois and Kyle Bangug were awesome at midfield constantly pushing the ball forward. Justin Carnero was super on defense, repeatedly stopping Extreme drives. Liam Bilcher and William Athenas were fantastic in goal. Keep up the teamwork Fire!

Bulldogs vs. Mighty Titans - A great game today for the Bulldogs against the Mighty Titans. Sal and Zach were great in goal . Joey L. had a great break away goal maneuvering his way through the defense. Kyle had 3 goals with the assists going to Joey, Vincent, and Kevin's corner kick. Jeremy, Brian and Kevin were solid in defense holding up a brick wall. Matt, Sam, Joshua, and Gurpreet were constantly feeding the ball up to the awaiting strikers. Coach John and Coach Terry are very proud of the way you are communicating on the field and passing like a team.
