State Bank of Long Island "Mets" Vs. T. F. O'Brien "Braves"

On a sweltering summer night, as the temperature started to sizzle so did the Mets bats. Chris C., Anthony C., Chris V. and Jonathan A. (J.J) all went at least 3 for 3. The Mets gloves were also on fire, David G., Adam S., Alessandro D., Max M., and Max D. all made some great big league plays to keep the tough Braves at bay. The well coached Braves gave us a great game. Mets keep up the good _work.

Broadway Plaza Hotel "Athletics" Vs. T. F. O'Brien "Braves"

The Broadway Plaza Hotel Athletics played another close game against the T.F. O'Brien Braves. Zachary Timmins and James Treadwell contributed with fine defensive plays. The defensive play of the game was an unassisted double play made by Steven Polito. Sean O'Leary and John Denara had some key hits to keep it a close game for the Broadway Plaza Hotel Athletics until the T.F. O'Brien Braves took the lead at the end.

July 18

Celtic Corner Pub & Grub "Phillies" Vs. Upscale Barber Shop "Angels"

The Phillies and Angels engaged in a slugfest on Tuesday night at Tully Park. The Angels won 13 to 12. The Phillies attack was led by Matt Vowinkle, Ryan O'Hare & Anthony Lanzilotta each with 2 hits. Vincent Rossello & Jack Belmont did their best imitation of Lou Brock with 2 steals apiece for the Phil's. A key walk & run scored by Brendan Nolty had the Phillies off to a good start. On the defensive side Victoria Brown & Jared Kassover played a nifty first base & had 2 putouts each. The pitching kept it close as Gregory Donovan pitched 2 innings surrendering 1 run and striking out 4. The Angels went ahead in the last inning and a Phillies rally just fell short.

July 18

Wilson Elser "Indians" Vs. Fastrac Kids "Diamondbacks"

The Indians played the Diamondbacks on July 18 in our second suer league game of 2006. The Indians played a good game against a tough Diamondbacks team. Hitting stars included, Ryan O'Donnell, Fran Labita & Thomas Messina. Pitching Stars, James Messina & Justin Marder_held the game close for four innings. The defense was also strong with great plays by Jake Kennedy & Jack Nuttall. An exciting game that was not decided until the last inning.

July 20

Celtic Corner Pub & Grub "Phillies" Vs. Fastrac Kids "Diamondbacks"

The Diamond Backs beat a game Philly team on Thursday night at Dietz Dairy Field. The Phil's defense got a sparkling double play at first base by Victoria Brown. Gregory Donovan was like a cat behind the plate to catch a pop up & both plays assisted Brendan Nolty in his scoreless inning of pitching. The offense could only manage 2 hits off a tough pitching staff. Ryan O'Hare & Anthony Lanzilotta stayed hot collecting those hits. Philip Silverstein had 2 walks & a steal as Jared Kassover, Jack Belmonte & Matt Vowinkle battled out a walk apiece but that was it for the highly touted Philly offense. Vincent Rossello pitched well for those Phil's striking out 1 in his inning pitched.

July 20

Wilson Elser "Indians" Vs. Upscale Barber Shop "Angels"

The Indians played the Angels in our third summer league game of 2006. The Indians were tough all day as they did not give up a run for the first time this year. Hitting stars included, Ryan O'Donnell, Adhi Balaji, Fran Labita & Thomas Messina. The Pitching Stars who struck out 16 batters of the 18 outs made included; James Messina, Justin Marder & Justin Di Donato, who held the opposition in check all day. The defense was also up to the task with great plays by Jake Kennedy, Jack Nuttall & Jack Mangin. The Indians are hitting their stride in what will be a fun summer season.

July 10

ABC Rental "Devil Rays" Vs. Floral Park Team #1

The Rays started the season opener breaking out the lumber. Mark Thomas led off going 1 for 3 & scored once. Michael Holuka, Matt Perno & Liam Quinn batted 2, 3 & 4 in the order hitting 3 for 3 & scoring 3 times each. Their hits included a home run from Matt, a speedy triple from Michael & a clutch double from Liam. WOW! Christopher Rivera went 2 for 3 & scored once. Matt Duglinski went 1 for 3 & scored once. Jon Kestenbaum walked & scored twice. Mark Holuka went 1 for 1, walked & scored twice. Big Joe DiMonte went 1 for 1 with a grand slam, walked, scoring twice & got the game ball because it was a true grand slam shot! Steven Telsey went 1 for 1, walked & scored. Nicolas ReisGerzog went 1 for 1, walked & scored twice. Jayson Molina went 2 for 2 & scored twice. Max Nettler went 0 for 1 with a walk. Kurt Skurdrna went 2 for 2. The Rays shared the mound & pitching included Matt Perno, Mark Thomas, Matt Duglinski & Christopher Rivera. The Rays got off to a great start.

July 15

9 Year Old All Stars Merillon Patriots (10) Vs. East Meadow (0)

The Patriots won their 3rd straight HBQVB tournament game by scoring 10 runs in the first 3 innings. The mercy rule was invoked in the 4th inning after East Meadow failed to narrow the 10 run deficit. Liam Slattery walked in the 1st coming around to score by way of a wild pitch, and both Colton Schnall's & John Young's placing the ball in play. Merillon scored 5 times in the 2nd when Benjamin Lee, Matthew Theodoropoulos & Kyle Facibene walked & scored on timely hits by Jonathan Cioffi & John Young. Brandon Silva also contributed when he laced a single to right center. Merillon finished off East Meadow in the bottom of the 3rd when they batted around the order for a 2nd consecutive inning. They scored 4 runs when Evan Clark started off the inning with a walk followed by singles by Benjamin Lee & Brandon Silva & walks to Jonathan Cioffi & Kyle Facibene. Vincent Patrey also contributed to the winning cause. John Young was awarded the game ball for his timely hitting which produced 2 RBI's in the 2nd inning. Way to go John!

July 16

9 Year Old All Stars Merillon Patriots (8) Vs. Franklin Square Indians (4)

The Patriots are now 4-0 in HBQVB tournament play. They opened by scoring all their runs in the 1st inning & then played solid defense to defeat the Indians. Colton Schnall, Frank Disanto & John Young ripped consecutive singles, Brandon Silva continued his torrid hitting with a double, Evan Clark singled, Andrew Schneider worked a walk & Jonathan Cioffi laced a triple down the right field foul line to score two RBI's. Colton Schnall hit his second single of the inning that scored Cioffi for the 8th run of the inning. Liam Slattery & Kyle Facibene advanced runners in the 1st by placing the ball in play. Everyone's bat came alive in the 1st. Way to go boys! Solid pitching performances were turned in by Colton Schnall, Vincent Patrey, Benjamin Lee & Brandon Silva. Matthew Theodoropoulos contributed to the winning cause with his solid defense at second base. Congratulations to Brandon Silva for his 3 for 3 hitting performance. The game ball was awarded to Jonathan Cioffi for his 1st inning triple & his last inning catch in right field that helped prevent the Indians from scoring.

July 17

ABC Rental "Devil Rays" Vs. Manhasset Team #1

It was a hot summer night and the Rays were down big. But when the sun went down the Rays came back big. Pitching included Matthew Perno, Mark Thomas who went the distance & Liam Quinn who came in to close the game for the last big out with the bases loaded. They did a heck of a job. Mark led off (1 for 2, 2 walks, 2 runs scored); Michael Holuka (4 for 4, 2 doubles, 4 runs scored); Matt Perno (1 for 1, 3 walks, 4 runs score); Liam Quinn (2 for 4, run scored; Matthew Duglinski (2 for 2, double, walk, 3 runs scored); Joe DiMonte had 3 good at bats & finished up the game at 2nd fielding the final 2 outs of the game. Jayson Molina (1 for 2, walk, 1 run scored) made a great catch in left field. Jon Kestenbaum (1 for 2, double, walk, run scored) had a monster shot for a double. Frankie Suppa (0 for 1, 2 walks, 2 runs scored) was super behind the plate for 2 hot innings. Nicolas ReisGerzog (0 for 1, 2 walks, run scored); Max Nettler (0 for 1, 2 walks, run scored) had a web gem in left field & got the game ball for it. Mark Holuka (0 for 2, walk, run scored). All the parents were very proud of the Rays for the great come back.

July 18

Tin Alley "Orioles" Vs. Malverne

It came down to the last inning to establish the Oriole's home opening win versus a relentless Malverne club. Pitching was handled by J. Vadala & M. Schwartz both throwing hard & accurate with A. Lopez providing the target behind the plate. Excellent defensive efforts were turned in by Ted Z., S. O'Hare, D. Hodes, T. Labrunna & M. Kemmet with a gem of a grab with the bases loaded. Bats came alive in the hands of P. Dunn, C. Dunne, M. Sartoris, TJ Kemmet & J. Pagan who smacked in the winning RBI with a shot to LF. Excellent come back guys!

July 18

Nine & 10 Year Old All Star "Reds" (30) Vs. East Williston (12)

The third 10 run mercy rule victory in a row for the Reds. The Reds scored 9 in the 1st, 13 in the 2nd 3 in the 3rd and 5 in the 4th. With everyone contributed to the victory. Nick Perrone (4 for 4, 4 runs scored, double, stolen base, walk, 2 RBI's); Joey Richards (3 for 3, 3 runs scored, 3 walks, 4 RBI's);Travis Finkel (2 for 2, 3 runs scored, 2 doubles, sacrifice, 2 walks, 5 RBI's); Danny Luchino (2 for 2, double, 5 runs scored, walk, RBI); Tyler Carrick (2 for 2, 2 runs scored, walk, RBI); Chris Ferlazzo (2 for 3, 2 runs scored, stolen base); Ryan Marder (2 for 2, 2 runs scored, walk, 3 RBI's); Brennan Scanlon (3 walks, 3 runs scored); Patrick Theodoropoulos (2 for 2, 2 runs scored); Austin Ward (2 for 3, 1 run scored, 3 RBI's); John Leva (2 walks, 1 run scored). Ryan Gaitan & Denes Kostel were both kept off the base paths but contributed to the victory with his hustle and glove work. Denes snared a soft line drive over his head and after the leaping catch fired to first base from the seat of his pants to double off the base runner. This is the most talented team this coach has ever seen, keep up the great work, Go Reds!

July 19

Tin Alley "Orioles" Vs. Floral Park "Team #3"

Ted Z. made his pitching debut with lights out J. Vadala closing out the Tin Alley O's recent win versus a sharp Floral Park club. C. Dunne, A. Lopez & M. Kemmet worked behind the plate & also delivered with solid O. Strong A/B performances were also delivered by J. Tricarico, M. Schwartz, S. O'Hare, & TJ Kemmet with a huge shot to LF. Ultimately, the tough D turned in by T. Labrunna, D. Menker, M Sartoris, J Pagan & P Dunn with a clutch grab in the Bottom of the 6th proved the difference in locking down the win. Great game guys!

Nine Year Old All Stars Merillon Patriots (18) Vs. Long Beach (8)

The Patriots improved to 5-0 in the HBQVB tournament as they overwhelmed the Long Beach squad, scoring 7 runs in the 5th inning to again invoke the mercy rule. The hitting stars were many as Frank Disanto led the way with a 3 for 4 night & 4 runs scored. Brandon Silva continued his torrid streak as he combined with Vinny Patrey on a perfect 3 for 3 each. Jonathon Cioffi & John Young were both 1 for 1 with 2 walks & 2 runs scored. The 5th inning had contributions from the whole team including Matt Theodoropoulos who led off with a single, Ben Lee who scored a run, Colton Schnall working out a walk & scoring, Liam Slattery with a long sacrifice fly to right, Evan Clark who had doubled earlier, walking & scoring a run, Andrew Schneider drawing his 3rd walk of the game & finished off by Kyle Facibene singling sharply to right driving in the final 2 runs & ending the game. Great job Patriots. The game ball was awarded to Liam Slattery for his 6 up 6 down starting pitching performance including 2 strikeouts.

July 20

Nine & 10 Year Old All Star "Reds" (2) Vs. Port Washington (0)

This game was a thriller from the very first pitch. Nick Perrone was almost untouchable on the mound for the Reds, pitching a complete game while striking out 8 and surrendering no runs. Tyler Carrick led the hitting attack going 2 for 3. Nick and Joey Richards each had a hit. The big blow came off the bat of Austin Ward who blasted a double and scored in the 3rd inning. The Reds scored both runs in the 3rd inning as fleet footed Chris Ferlazzo pinch ran for Joey and scored while Austin scored on a deep sacrifice fly by Travis Finkel. Danny Luchino turned in 2 fine plays at third both times cutting down the lead runners at 2nd base. Denes Kostel played a super second base this game and made some sparkling plays. Patty Theodoropoulos, Ryan Marder, Ryan Gaitan, John Leva and Brennan Scanlon all contributed to the victory with solid defense. This was a super semi final game and the Reds look forward to the championship game this coming Monday, 7/24 at Sagamore Field against the very same Port Washington team.
