  • Sports: Merillon Little League Scores

Despite being outmanned, the Braves played a fine game against the disciplined Padres. Despite a lack of pitching control on the mound from their manager, power from the plate was provided by Gregory Haynes (big 2-run double), Jacob Portnoy, Harry Schildkraut, switch-hitting Dylan Silverstein & Jack Tucker. Stellar defense was turned in by Pranshu Babber with a fine play at 3rd & Brian Volk by snagging a major league pop-up at the mound. Jacob Seidenberg, Corey Rutkin, Peter Restivo, Jordan Greif & Timothy Fogarty were absent from the game, we look forward to their return. Once again, all players displayed tremendous teamwork, sportsmanship and enthusiasm, and fun was had by all. FULL STORY

  • Sports: New Hyde Park Wildcats Roundup

As we prepare for the Levittown Tournament next week, today's scrimmage divided the players into a blue team and a red team. This contest was close all game and wound up a 6-6 tie. The blue team spread their scoring among Robert Valli (2 goals), Stefani Egre (2 goals) and one each for Andrew Abberton and Nick Marangoudakis. Chris Mirino led the scoring for the red team with 2 goals. The other goals were scored by Ryan McCurry, Alex Warner, Billy Russo and Christian Buccellato. Debbie Chin had an outstanding game on defense with some timely tackles and great positioning to frustrate her opponents' charges. After next week's tournament, we're off for Memorial Day then it's on to P/OB for their annual tournament and barbecue. That leaves only one week after that until the much-anticipated parents vs. the players match. The parents were seen huddling in preparation for this game. One can only assume they're planning some trick plays because they have not done any physical training to get ready to break the longest losing streak in soccer history, which now stands at an amazing 29 straight defeats. Only time will tell. FULL STORY
