Last chance to get in on a great day of fun and prizes. Our annual Golf Outing is all set for Monday, May 15th, at the North Shore Towers Golf Course. Sign in is at 10 a.m. and the shotgun start is at 11 a.m. Continental breakfast before you go out and a BBQ and beverages at the clubhouse after the golf. Gifts and raffles to round out the day. All this, including green fees and carts, for only $150 per player. Please call Rich Bletsch at 516-328-3043 to register or if you would like to be a sponsor. Remember, this outing supports our very successful NHP TOPSoccer program, now in it's 15th year!

This week's practice was a change of pace for our athletes. We took a trip to P/OB to combine our session with them. The weather couldn't have been better with blue skies and NO rain. After the usual warm up's, we split our players into two groups. The seniors played several games against the P/OB teams. While the scores weren't favorable, we did pick up some valuable experience against two terrific squads. Sebastian Garcia showed steady improvement as our goalie. Passing was our strong point and coach Zimmerman had the team motivated with great ball movement. Leading the way was Billy Russo, Stephanie Egre and Ryan McCurry. Andrew Abberton and Debbie Chin were the stars on defense with outstanding tackles. Matt Saraiva was steady as he handled much of the midfield chores. Nick Marangoudakis, Alex Warner and Christian Buccellato represented NHP well with the junior group. Super turnout, once again, by our teenage coaches. Next week we're back to Center Street. Girls Division

Cabbage Patch

Bratz vs Jets - It was a good thing that the Bratz got a good night of sleep before their game because the Bratz had just enough girls to play. The Bratz did not see this as a problem but rather as an opportunity for the players to get some extra game time! The goalies worked hard at stopping the hard pressing Jets by grabbing anything within their reach. The defense impressed everyone with their hard stops and teamwork to stop the Jets attack and advance the ball forward to the offense. The offense ran after every loose ball and finished at their opponents goal with powerful shots. The girls showed their versatility by playing different positions on field. The Bratz were powered by Emma Aquino, Zoe Araujo, Kira Crehan, Camryn Dluginski, Jenna Marshiano and Emma Quinn. We missed you Kasey, Marissa and Victoria. Thanks for your help today Claire. Great game Jets. As always I am proud of all my soccer Bratz.

Jets vs. Bratz - On sunny Sunday the soaring Jets met up with a good Bratz team. We were short handed today and the girls really had to give it their all. We had outstanding all around play by Alannah O. She scored our only two goals. Deirdre L. was all over the field making nice plays, keeping us in the game. A speedy Larissa S. played a terrific offense. Good defensive plays by Sophia L. and Shayna Z. helped keep some shots out of our goal. The good offensive/defensive playing of Jamie M. and Marcela C. was key in keeping the game close. Great going girls. Go Jets!

Bonnet

Kickin' Kittens v. Terriers - The Kittens played a tough match versus the talented Terriers. The game had plenty of offense and exciting plays. The talented Daniella Fusaro came on strong and is adding a new dimension to her game with improved footwork. Alison Pazienski is beginning to combine smart passing skills with her speed and tireless energy which will make her a very dangerous player. Arianna Ramdass is back with the Kittens and is showing she is ready for the season and made many fine plays. Alexandra Rivera did a great job defending the left side and also helped out on offense. Sarahelena Barrios played a nice game on the field in the first half and guarded the net in the second half. Isabel Ryan was our first half goalie and both girls made terrific saves that kept the Kittens in the game. Isabel also had some threatening runs into the Terriers defensive zone in the second half. Catherine Saketos defended the right side and also moved up on offense and had several nice plays. Despite being under the weather, Taylor Cosme gave her best and played hard both on offense and defense. Daniela Haigan anchored the defense and gave a great effort. The Kittens played hard and had good scoring opportunities with shots by Daniella Fusaro and Alison Pazienski finding the back of the net. . The Kittens are eager to get back on the field and play good, smart soccer. We missed Bianca Gadze and Crista LaRock. Keep On Kickin'Kittens.

Princesses 2 vs Thunder Cats 2

The Princesses and the Thunder Cats provided their families and friends to an exciting fast packed contest this week. The sun was shining brightly but the effort and skills of the girls were the bright spots this week. Sara continued her hot streak for the Princesses, scoring two goals off of power drives to the goal. Eva made several pretty passes which led to scoring chances. Ashley made a super move to the goal and beat the goalie only to see the ball roll just wide. Victoria made a nice pass to an advancing teammate which led to one of the Princesses goals. Brittany played a solid defense while also moving up to apply offensive pressure. Defensively, Jessica was outstanding anchoring a solid team effect. Laura played a very smartly game, aggressively attaching the ball. Tara made some fancy moves to advance the ball forward. McKenzie held strong, protecting her goalie by stopping the Thunder Cats advances. Kaitlyn continues to improve each week as her soccer experience continues. Amanda kept the Princesses in the game by shutting down the Thunder Cats powerful offensive in the second half. The strong goal tending allowed the Princesses to battle back to tie the game. Great effort by both teams. Good luck the rest of the season to both teams!

Tigersharks

On a beautiful day for soccer, the Tiger Sharks took on a power-house Power Puff Girl team. The girls started out the game short-handed and did their best to keep the game close before reinforcements arrived. The game was a much closer affair than the first time these two teams met and we are all proud of the way the Tiger Sharks hung in there and played a spirited game. The Defense was led by Christie Batista, Theodora P, and Edna Dudek who each broke up over a dozen PPG attacks on goal and did a great job clearing the ball. The attack was led by Tiffany Velin who scored a goal and Elaine Liu and Kaitllyn Krems who just missed goals and made some very nice passes and dribbling moves. Hannah Varghese played a great game and made a fantastic run up field from defense, grabbing a loose ball deep in our zone and dashing up toward the PPG at full sprint for a dangerous chance to score. Aly Luna and Alana Moran did a fine job attacking the goal and each had a chance to score. In goal, Sara Pierce stopped 5 shots on goal and in the field she made 2 killer passes to spring the offense. Edna, Elaine, Hannah and Tiffany also played super in goal. Great effort today, girls!! Mackenzie - we missed you.

New Hyde Park Pantherettes 1, Plainedge Magic 3

Another thrilling and well played game displayed by the Pantherettes ended up with another disappointment. After playing a thrilling scoreless first half, with action up and down both ends of the field, the teams ended the game with the same thrills it started with. Plainedge struck first early in the second half. A short time later, Jenna took the ball from the Pantherettes end and drove up the field, getting around two defenders and finally making a move around the goaltender to put the ball into the net. The game continued deadlocked for a time, until Plainedge struck again. This did not discourage the Pantherettes, who came close to tying the game on a two on none break with Jenna and Jeanmarie. Jenna's shot hit the post and the rebound just scooted by Jeanmarie who was ready for the shot. Unfortunately, Plainedge was able to get another goal, despite the Pantherettes relentless pressure at the end of the game. The goaltending duties was split between Antonella and Julia. Their timely saves, and placing the ball back into action quickly, allowed the Pantherettes to stay in the game. Destinee, Brianna and Jennifer displayed great playing at both ends of the field, as they split time between offense and defense. Katy rounded out the offense with some good moves and passing plays. The rest of the defense was provided by Lisa, Brittany and Maria. Their relentless coverage in the defensive end kept the game close. It was not just their defensive coverage, but their pressure in the offensive zone that helped the Pantherettes put on relentless pressure at the end. Despite the extra effort at the end, they were not able to get one through. All in all, it was a well played game by the Pantherettes.

Lady Leopards 4, Rockville Center 1

The Lady Leopards played an amazing game against Rockville Center. The girls were all in top form as they overpowered RVC with a strong offense and a solid wall defense. RVC won the toss, but had the ball for only about a second before New Hyde Park swept it away. Kaitlin Shea, playing center, brought the ball up, and passed to striker Taylor Ross who was in perfect position to boot it into the net. Later, Nicole DeSouza, running up the side with Alana Cohen partnering, scored for the team. In the second half, Sofie Klapow brought the ball in from the side to center it for another goal scored by Nicole. Danielle Michaels and Celeste Lyons really kept the ball moving and away from defenders. Late in the second half, Nicole scored again. The defense was also hard at work nipping in the bud any RVC forward movement, blocking them at every turn. Rebecca Lewis, covering the center, and Hannah Zeitlin, on the side, conserved running energy with tremendous kicks that advanced the ball halfway up the field while Caroline Weinberg foot-wrestled the ball away from opponents. First half goalie Eve Rigas joined the defense on the field in the second half and put her punting power to work outside the net while Taylor took over in goal. Great job, Lady Leopards!

Lady Bengals 5 Farmingdale 1

The Lady Bengals played a spirited game as all phases of their game came together. The goaltending was terrific as the group of Claire, Alexa, Stephanie, Kathy all played well. The offense was terrific as their group, Alexa, Dena, Maggie and Katherine who scored her first goal and gave us a big lead early on and it was smooth sailing from that point on. Katherine opened up the scoring with an aggressive play that ended with a blast for the back of the right side of the net. Alexa fired in two from the right side of the net and Rachel snuck one into the corner of the net. The final score was placed in the Farmingdale net off of their own defender .. oops! The defense played tough as Ariana, Meaghan, Gina, Allison and Kathy held off the Farmingdale attack. Congratulations on the win girls!

Girls U-11 League Play

The Lady Jaguars brought their undefeated record to the South Shore to play LIJSL powerhouse the Massapequa Elite. The game was billed as the game of the week, and that it was. After a defensive struggle Massapequa was able to get on the board. At the 14 minute mark of the 1st half, Massapequa was awarded a corner kick. The kick was centered perfectly in front of the Lady Jags goal. One of the Elite players one timed the ball to the upper right corner of the net. There was no chance for the goal keeper to stop the ball on this well placed shot. As for the rest of the half, possession of the ball went back and forth. Each team would take control, however few chances were manufactured. The half ended with Massapequa in the lead 1-0. The Lady Jaguars came out in the second half and gave it their all. Unfortunately they were not able to slip the ball past the Elites goal keeper. The final score was 1-0 in Massapequa's favor. Bright spots included another outstanding effort by the N.H.P. defense. They held a very potent Elite offense to 8 shots on goal for the game. Ashley Tuffy was outstanding in goal for the Lady Jags with 7 saves. The Lady Jaguars put 8 shots on the Massapequa net. The physical play of Victoria Caccamo was responsible for manufacturing a few of the Lady Jags attempts. An honorable mention for Meaghan Ginty who has been the leader of the rock solid Jaguar defense. Meg is consistently giving 110% effort on the field. All of the girls should be complimented on their effort during this very tough league game. The Ladies had to play the same Massapequa team the next day, Sunday in the semi-final round of the Waldbaums Cup. See related story.

GU-11 Waldbaums Cup Semi-Finals

After a tough loss the day before, 1-0, the N.H.P.

Lady Jaguarswere back on the field in Massapequa to face the Elite in the Semi-final round of the Waldbaums Cup tournament. The game opened with a high rising shot at the N.H.P. goal, which goal keeper Ashley Tuffy snatched from the air to thwart the Elites attempt to strike first blood. This game was a continuation of the battle that was fought on Saturday. The girls came out ready to play and showed that they can play with one of the best teams on Long Island. The result was a 1-0 victory and a birth to the Waldbaums Cup Final. The Defensive unit of Julianne Randazzo, Emma McGrath, Enza outstanding. They held the Elite to 10 shots on goal and registered another shutout for goal tender Ashley Tuffy, who was great in her own rights with 10 saves. The Lady Jags winning score came on a direct kick by Erica Sousa from about 25 yards out.(from the goal) Erica placed her, hard high, shot perfectly over the outstretched hands of the Massapequa goal keeper. With the Lady Jags up 1-0 at the half, the girls played very disciplined game of soccer for the remainder of the game, with all of them contributing to the victory. Thanks to all of the Parents, Friends and Family that came out to support the team the entire weekend. This victory is dedicated to Steve (the Lady Jags Trainer). Thanks for all of your patience, skill and insight... your Lady Jaguars - Gabby Tomasini, Jillian Graziano, Erica Sousa, Julianne Randazzo, Emma McGrath, Ailish Malone, Meaghan Ginty, Emma Innella, Victoria Caccamo, Alison Ricchiuti, Jillian Stacom, Vincenza Decrescenzo and Ashley Tuffy.

Royal Cats 1 Rockets 2

The Royal Cats had an early morning game in Oceanside and met one of their biggest challenge this season. First half of the game both teams were feeling each other out. The Oceanside rockets drew first blood by scoring on us 1 goal in the first half of the game. The defensive wall was there provided by Amanda Martinez, Kirsten Brandenburg, Priscilla Edwards, Christiana Kastalek and Gianna Delgiorno but to no avail as they put one past us. There was nothing our goalie Jennifer Haynes could have done. Second half of the game the Royal Cats picked up the pace a bit and started moving that ball around very well. Offensively Paige Rigas, Angelina Gambino, Nicole Bateman, Amanda Lalik, Caroline Rodgers and Alexa Giagrande gave it their best to put that ball in the back of the net but luck was not on our side today. Kirsten Brandenburg took a penalty kick and masterfully kicked the ball dead center just below the bar to score a goal for the team, The Rockets where not done, they saw a sense of urgency and were able to get the winning goal for their team. There was nothing we could have done it was just one of those days. Sometimes home game advantage works. Girls thanks for playing hard and giving it your best. Remember there's always next week

NHP Lady Stormcats 1 - Port Washington 1

Our entire team should be commended for their top shelf effort against a team who got away with multitudes of fouls because of an official who allowed such reckless and dangerous behavior. Enough said about that! Tabinda Syed who had our lone goal withstood the constant pounding, alongside teammates Amanda Cavallaro,Dana Davis and Jennifer Morga, who came ever so close to scoring, all game long. Ports goalkeeper was their teams star. She made some unbelievable saves, fair and square. Kelly Kerrane and Roshni Amin along with Patricia McMullan were determined as ever, working their wing positions. They distributed the ball up to their strikers, precisely, all game long. Gina Marrano and Alicia Brewer continue their successful ways as stalwarts in the backfield. And except for "a splinter emergency" Melanie Sferrazza was on top of things in her sweeper spot all game long. Alexandra Pappacena and Dureya Syed shared the keeper duties, and did another solid job. You girls played today in adverse conditions, that were beyond your control, and you came out as winners in all of our eyes! Well done girls!

Continental-U6

Lightning vs. Street Sharks - Lightning was excited and ready for the game after the last two weeks of rain. Sal Angeleras started out in goal and did an exceptional job, later in the game as forward he was able to get the ball into the Street Sharks end. Dylan Edwards and Justin Pumillo did a nice job on offense using their powerful kicks and dribbling skills to get the ball upfield. Hunter Steinmann was full of energy and was really hustling for the ball. All three came close to scoring. Gabriel Rodriguez made some nice throw ins enabling David Escorcia to make several attempts on goal. Robert Becker showed some great skills taking the ball on a break away and attempting to kick on goal as well. Terry McMenami held a strong defense with James Connolly and Kunal Suri. Overall the boys played hard and did a great job!!

Dolphins v. Tornados

After three straight rainouts the weather finally contributed and the Dolphins were able to play their first game of the season. The match up against a very tough Tornado squad was high scoring and enjoyable to watch. All the boys were very excited and definitely got off on the right foot. Well, maybe not the lefty Anthony Carbone who instead used his skilled left foot to threaten the Tornadoes throughout the game. In one of his better games, Jeremy Barrios displayed good ball control and some nice hustle plays. The energetic Mathew Solomon had some strong runs up the field and shadowed the Tornadoes' players on and off the field. George Saketos made several outstanding plays in his best performance to date. Christopher Kilcullen and Christopher Valentine were relentless in their pursuit of the ball and both made excellent passes that lead to Dolphin scores. Robert Sirotkin speed was evident in terrific runs up field and good recoveries on defense. Brendan Kiernan had great game becoming a force at every position. Cleber Guaman played a smart game and is showing a good touch on the ball. Our newest player Daniel Sotelo-Reiner had great first game hustling throughout the field and had a nice shot that missed the goal by a mere three quarters of an inch. In addition to playing out on the field Cleber, Daniel, Jeremy and Anthony did a superb job guarding the net for the Dolphins. Congratulations to both teams, it was an exciting and entertaining game.

Fire vs. Galaxy - The Fire came out hot on this beautiful Saturday afternoon. Kevin "Chief" Kern opened the scoring on a neat pass from Christian Carrick. Christian in return received a great pass from Brian Saramego burying one in the back of the net. Brian followed with two scores of his own off passes from Kevin Keenan and Nicholas Reda. Great midfield play by Matthew Martinucci and Nicholas DiMaria. Awesome goal tending by Jonathan Ang kept the Galaxy at bay. Go Fire!

Quakes vs. Metrostars - Today's game between the Quakes and Metrostars was one for the ages. There isn't enough that could be said about both team's ability to pass, receive and look for the open player during the course of this game. For the Metrostars, offensive threats were fast and furious by a goal by Michael Nygaard and constant pressure being put on the opposition by both John Kilcullen and Joseph Dunn. Being Spectacular in goal was the play of Gregory Donovan who kept his team in the game the whole time. For the Quakes enough couldn't be said about the goal tending on Emile Hanna who after receiving a point blank blast by Metrostars Joseph Dunn was still able to make the stop and continue playing after a brief rest on the side lines. Zachary Fazekas continued the goal tending responsibilities and was perfect in the net as well. On offense although very tough fought throughout the whole game, goals were finally scored by Alex Bracco and Nicholas Favale. Offensive pressure was continuously kept on by Thomas daily and the mid field was held strong by the great play of Tyler Baron and Tom Kamberis. Anyone watching the game, including the coaches the game was as enjoyable for any spectator as well as the players. Great game boys! Keep up the good work

Jaguars vs Massapequa Lions - The Jaguars went to battle today with the Massapequa Lions. The offense was led by Peter Keenan who played an awesome game. Brendan Deery and Peter had shots on goal. They were assisted by Anthony DiMarco who had an outstanding game. Anthony moved the ball well under pressure and made some great passes. Chris Pun, Daniel Flori, Brian Ambadjes and Sean Ryan made several strong offensive pushes. Alex Spinoccia and Anthony Cacchioli cleared the ball numberous times and played excellent defense. Andrew Curcio had a tremendous game demonstrating great speed and ball handling skills. Matt Pappacena made ten terrific saves in goal. In the end, the Lions came out ahead 3-0 but what a commendable effort Jaguars!

Stray Cats 2 - Great Neck 1 - Super effort by all the Stray Cats in a hard-fought 2-1 victory over a strong Great Neck team. The first half was a 0-0 slugfest as each team had their attack game going strong. Forwards/Midfielders Cian Fitzgerald, Gerard Farrell, Chris Ferlazzo, and Defender Billy Stevens all had shots-on-net, but to no avail. Chris Sacino and Ryan Korzevinsky pushed the ball up nicely. Goalie Andrew Blumenson made five nice saves to keep the Great Neck offense frustrated. The second half was all Stray Cats. Gerard Farrell scored both Stray Cat goals for a 2-0 lead. Defenders Tyler Carrick, Stephan Eranovic, Steven Cacchioli, and Bryan O'Neill completely dominated, allowing Great Neck just two shots on goal. Great Neck scored late, but the game was well in hand. Nice game, Stray Cats!
