U-6 Girls

Bratz vs Tiger Sharks

The girls had another day of great weather to play their game this past weekend. The Bratz had a lot of fun while showing all the fans their soccer skill. The offense was relentless with their dribbling, passing and hard shots at their opponent's goal. The defense showed excellent teamwork backing each other up, making hard stops and advancing the ball forward to the offense. The girls showed their versatility by playing different positions throughout the game. The team was powered by Victoria Tarrega, Emma Quinn, Jenna Marshiano, Camryn Dluginski, Marissa Cronin, Kira Crehan, Casey Borduas, Zoe Araujo and Emma Aquino. I am proud of all my soccer Bratz. What a difference a day makes. We went from an icy-cold, rain-drenched Saturday to a beautiful bright and sunny Sunday. The Tiger Sharks came to play today taking on a very tough Bratz team. The game was very competitive and exciting to watch. The Tiger Shark attack was led by Elaine Liu who scored a goal and took several nice shots, Theodora Papadoniou who clanged a laser-shot off the post and Tiffany Velin who controlled midfield. Kaitlyn Krems, Sara Pierce, Hannah Varghese, Ali Luna and Alana Moran had chances for goals, but just missed on shots that went wide. The D was led by Theodora P who broke up 9 attacks, Mackenzie Griffin who broke up 5, and Edna Dudek who broke up 7 attacks on goal and aggressively drove down field with the ball when she had a chance. In goal, Sara Pierce had 2 saves, Enda 3, Mackenzie 2, Kaitlyn 1 and Tiffany Velin a stopper on the line. Christie Batista was sick for the game and we wish her a speedy recover.

Beautiful weather led to a wonderful soccer game for the Starcats. Outstanding saves as our goalkeepers were played by Patricia and Julie. The defense was busy as Lauren, Natalie and Nicole were dynamite. They did a lot of running to keep the ball away from the net. Betsy had successful dribbling scoring four goals. Martha and Alenie were awesome on offense with their fancy footwork. Jaclynn was outstanding on defense helping keep the ball away from our net. We missed Stephania.

U-8

Kickin' Kittens vs. Thundercats - The Kickin' Kittens had another strong outing against the talented Thundercats. The Kittens were shorthanded and every player was forced to play the entire game. The girls gave a terrific effort and did not let up until the final whistle. The match was fiercely fought with both teams playing very well. Bianca Gadze played goalie in the first half and also did a terrific job at right defensive back in the second half. Isabel Ryan put a lot of pressure on the Thundercat defense and once again did a solid job as our second half goaltender. Daniela Haigan was asked to cover both offense and defense and was outstanding. Crista Larock covered the left defensive side and she sent back any threats that came her way. Sarahelena Barrios gave another strong performance and demonstrated her improved skills. Catherine Saketos was full of energy and run all over the field, she is also showing greater skills and is passing the ball well. Alexandra Rivera was tireless patrolling the right wing and had a very good game. The Thundercats scored a late goal to take a one nothing lead and that is how the game ended. Even without any subs the Kittens fought valiantly through the entire match and we were all very impressed with their performance. Congratulations to both teams for a terrific game. We missed Alison Pasienski, Daniela Fusaro, Taylor Cosme and Brianna Singh. Enjoy the week off and remember, keep on kicking Kittens.

Princesses 3 vs Angel Power 1 - The Princesses opened their league season against a tremendously talented Angel Power. The two teams went at each other the entire contest. Neither team backing up nor letting down. The first half ended with a scoreless tie thanks to the tight defense of the Princesses. Laura and Jessica continue their outstanding defensive play from last season. McKenzie and Brittany were both active and reversed the ball back to the offensive players. Victoria made some nice saves on some strong kicks to the goal. The Princesses opened up the second half with a pretty passing combination. Ashley, playing on her mother's birthday, gave Eva a soft pass and Eva advanced it forward to a charging Sara who hit the back of the net to open the scoring. Tara had great game switching from offense and defense. Kaitlyn played her first soccer game and fit right in, aggressively pursuing the ball. Amanda was in goal for the second half and made a number difficult saves to hold off the determined Angel offense. Sara scored the second Princess's goal by making a great cross over and splitting the defenders. She also scored the last goal to seal the victory for the Princesses. It was a total team win with all the girls contributing to the victory. Great teamwork and sportsmanship was displayed by both teams. Happy Birthday Floretta!

Lady Bengals 1 Valley Stream Hammers

(Regulation Game) - Shootout score - Lady Bengals 0 Valley Stream Hammers 2 - The game started over a half-hour late and the rain was coming down in buckets. The Bengals took the field with determination and battled the ugly weather as champions. The lone goal scored during regulation time was a team effort made by Alexa Epstein and Rachel Hand. We managed to hold the score 1-0 until the final minute of the game when off a penalty kick the Hammers scored. As the clock began to tick down, Dena Cavallaro took a blow to a previously injured mouth and went out of the game. Our awesome goalie, Claire Lanzo was truly amazing as she protected her goal with many saves. Way to go Claire! The Bengals played with all they had and really deserve to be proud of their efforts. The entire team worked hard together - Kathy Kariotis, Meaghan Lotti, Gina Cacchiol, Allison Hand, Ariana Bruschi, Katherine McCune, Maggie Murnane and Stephanie Jozkowski as they never gave up and always supported one another. During the shootout each girl who took shots (Katherine, Rachel, Alexa, Ariana and Kathy) (Kathy never got to shoot) really did a great job. A Special thanks to coaches Steve and Joe. We missed ya coach Rich! Happy Birthday to Dena and we hope you feel better.

U-11 Waldbaum's Cup

Just when you think that the weather conditions this Spring soccer season, can't get any worst. Mother Nature took her best shot at the Lady Jaguars, during the 2nd Round of the Waldbaum's Cup. The Lady Jags had to fight the elements (cold and wet weather) as well as a very good team. The Garden City Daredevils played the Lady Jags to a 0-0 tie at the end of regulation. Neither team was able to score during two 5 minute O.T. periods which led us to a shootout to determine who would advance in the Waldbaum's Tournament. Coach McGrath chose his 5 shooters as the Lady Jaguars Goal Keeper, Ashley Tuffy, readied her self for the first Garden City attempt. Ashley snatched the ball from the air on a rising shot, to thwart the Daredevils first shooter. Ailish Malone was the first N.H.P. shooter and she was all business driving the ball into the right corner of the net. The next Daredevil was also stopped by Ashley as the G.C. player drilled the ball into the midsection of the Jaguars keeper. The next Jaguars attempt just missed wide. The third shooter for Garden City was denied by Ashley as she pulled the ball wide to the left. This set up Gabby Tomasini for her attempt. Gabby blasted the ball past the Garden City keeper to put the Lady Jaguars up 2-0 in the shootout. The Daredevils would not go down easily scoring their first shootout goal on a well placed ball that just skipped under a diving Ashley Tuffy. The next Lady Jags attempt was steered wide by the G.C. Goalkeeper to keep them in striking distance. The final G.C. shooter was able to pick a corner and knot the shootout at 2-2. When the final Jaguars attempt was stopped by the Daredevils keeper, two more players were chosen by the coaches. Ashley Tuffy made the save of the game on a shot that was rocketing towards the left corner of the net. With her body fully outstretched, diving to her right, she was able to get her right hand on the ball deflecting it just wide of the net. Coach McGrath chose Meaghan Ginty, as the shooter that could give the Lady Jaguars the victory. Meaghan stepped up, very poised, and reset the ball. As the crowd hushed, Meaghan stuck the ball to the right side, past the keeper and into the net. The girls surrounded Meaghan and Ashley at mid-field to celebrate the victory. Both teams played well. The Lady Jaguars had 13 shots on goal during regulation and the G.C. Daredevils had 8. This was Ashley Tuffy's 4th shutout in a row. The defensive corp of Emma McGrath, Julianne Randazzo, Meaghan Ginty, Enza Descresenzo with help from Gabby Tomasini have been outstanding in securing these shutouts. The Lady Jaguars now advance to Round 3 of the tournament thanks to their efforts during this victory. The Lady Jaguars are Victoria Caccamo, Alison Ricchiuti, Jill Stacom, Emma Innella, Jill Graziano, Emma McGrath, Julianne Randazzo, Ailish Malone, Meaghan Ginty, Ashley Tuffy, Erica Sousa, Vincenza Descrescenzo and Gabriella Tomasini. Thanks to all of the family and friends that braved the weather to cheer the girls on.

Waldbaum's Round 2 GU-11 NHP Lady Stormcats 1 - Lynbrook 2 - Well, I gotta say it was lousy weather today, all day long, but i left the game very pleased with the effort by our girls. Playing Lynbrook is proving to be great competition and excitement filled for the entire 60 minutes of the match. I was anticipating a late rallying score right up until the final whistle blew. That didnt happen, but the girls desire and effort could not be denied. We "debuted" our Double Diamond formation today and with the exception of give or take a flaw here and there it proved to be very promising. We will continue to work on it and the girls will continue to improve. The cold weather had some effect on play and adjustments had to be made but overall, outstanding effort by Tabinda Syed who controlled the mid-field play and who also blasted one into the ole onion bag for our lone score, she worked in front of her sister, the formidable defensive mid-fielder Dureya Syed. Dana Davis, with her true-grit play was relentless all game long, Melanie Sferrazza determined and powerful at her Sweeper position Kelly Kerrane was in top form moving the ball upfield ,playing outside half-back. Full-back Patricia McMullan played her best game today alongside Samantha Athenas,Gina Marrano and Alexandra Pappacena who partnered up proving trouble-some to the Lynbrook attack. Emily Rennie,Amanda Cavallaro and Jen Morga shared attacking duties and constantly kept up the pressure trying to find the net but were just unlucky today. As a side note: Gina commented to me when we got home"Dad, you wanted me to defend Kamillah all by myself!! what are you crazy?"

It was a great start for the Tornados who were led by Nicky Lopez and James Castaldi playing a very strong midfield. Chris Kerrane, Kevin Fox, and Peter Siozios were rock solid on defense, stopping many lighting offensive drives. Paul Weiss was steady in goal. The offense was very aggressive with Ethan Ng, Zachary Timmins, and Nicholas Femia (3 goals). Keep up the good work Tornados and good luck to a very strong Lighting team.

Boys U8

Galaxy vs. Giants - Opening day for the boys started off sunny but it rained hard for about an hour in NHP which happened to be the hour that the Galaxy and Giants played their season opener. The boys played hard and had fun in the rain. The offense pressed the ball forward with long runs and some crisp passing. The defense worked hard at stopping their opponents from penetrating their side of the field. The goalies made some nice saves in the muddy goal. The Galaxy's offense this game was run by Nicholas Aquino, Joseph DelGiorno, Brendan Montenegro and Gregory Tan. The defense was powered by John Compton, Cameron Pon, and Joseph Weiner. The goal keepers were Michael Carrotta and Michael Thornton. We missed you on the field Nicholas Z. and TJ, see you next game. Great game Giants, I am proud of the whole team.

Jaguars vs. Manhasset - The Jaguars and Panthers played tough in the torrential rain for a chance to advance in the Waldbaum's Cup Tournament. Early in the first half there was an awesome display of teamwork when Andrew Curcio passed the ball up field to Michael Zornberg who passed it to teammate Anthony DiMarco who in turn passed it to Daniel Flori for a possible shot. Although no goal was realized - it was obvious that the Jaguars were on their game in spite of the weather. Brian Ambadjes and Peter Keenan played excellent offense while Sean Ryan and Chris Pun maintained control over the midfield. Chris Pun as well as Brenden Deery had shots on goal. One of Pun's shots was prevented by a great save from the Panthers' goalie. When the goalie attempted to kick the ball back into play - Brenden Deery blocked the kick, took control of the ball and blasted a shot from the 18 yd line into the corner of the net giving the only goal of the game to the Jaguars! Defensive players Alex Spinoccia, Anthony Cacchioli and Andrew Curcio played hard and fought off numerous attempts by the Panthers to score. In goal, Matthew Pappacena made several saves throughout the game and with only seconds to go - made a spectacular save to secure the Jaguars 1-0 win over the Panthers. Great game boys!
