Three referee courses have been announced by the Long Island Soccer Referees Association for those interested in officiating Long Island Junior Soccer League matches during 2006.
A Grade 9 Referee certification course is being held at the Ames School in Massapequa on Jan. 13 and 18. Grade 9 officials can referee Boys and Girls Under 10 matches and are used as assistant referees for Under 15,16 and 17 games.
A Grade 9 "Bridge" course will be held at Plainedge High School on Jan. 17 and 19. Candidates must have been Grade 9 referees for at least
one year. Upon completion, they will become Grade 8 referees and are then able to officiate all LIJSL games.
A Grade 9 Home Club Assistant Referee course will be held on Jan. 28 and 29 at the James Allen BOCES School in Dix Hills. This course consists of two 4-hour sessions, one in the morning starting at 8 am, one in the afternoon beginning at 1 p.m. each day. Candidates have a choice which session they will attend each day. Minimum age of 14 as of this spring. Those who pass this course will be able to serve as assistant referees for Long Island Junior Soccer League matches.

The Long Island Junior Soccer League (LIJSL) was established in 1966 as a non-profit, educational organization and is one of the largest youth soccer leagues in the United States, with 98 member clubs representing approximately 70,000 players on Long Island and in Queens.
