Coaches Game

Congratulations to all the coaches who braved the cold and showed their skills. Great game by all: Paolo Bruschi, Chris Corey, Gary Georges, John Fazekas, Milan Gadze, Brian Buckner, Eric Lorandini, Branko Rakamaric, Pat Lopez, Roger Martinez, Efi Domb, Rich Edwards, Socrates Kariotis, Colier Chan, Sal Vega, Ralf Brandenberg, Andy Tansey, Frank Totti and Vincent Pullo. Thanks for your support of our club and children. It does not go unnoticed.

Thank You Jericho Terrace

The Jericho Terrace has been hosting our dinner dances for the past few years and a thank you almost does not seem adequate for how kind they are to all of us. Each and every person that we deal with treats us as if we were the only affair or concern that they might have for that day. They are kind and professional. We are so lucky to have such a special place to celebrate at each year.

Thank you to Michael for always offering your opinion when needed. Loula, they are so lucky to have you! You are kind, efficient, smart, and caring. You always help to make any problem seem manageable! Thanks to Tino and Louis and all of the servers and bartenders that helped to make the evening so enjoyable. We all appreciate your kindness!

TOPSoccer

As the season draws to a close, the teams are in top form. The juniors had a rousing warm-up match as they prepare for the showdown next week against the parents. They trounced the coaches 11-2. Liam Carroll had a super game with 4 goals while Liam O'Brien added three more. Josh Stark chipped in with 2 and Sean Scahill and Josh Niewierowski had one apiece. Paul Niewierowski was a standout in goal stopping just about everything. The coaches had one legitimate score and one 'own goal' but it was a sad display by an overmatched squad. The seniors played a much closer game but the TOPSoccer team prevailed here also. Bradley Schusterman opened up the scoring on a penalty kick, set up by a questionable call by the referee. The coach's goalie settled down after that and kept the game close until the players pulled out a play from their play book. The players deployed an old technique by screening the goalie and scored twice off of scrambles in front of the net, freezing the goalkeeper in his tracks. The coaches came back in the second half with two scores, one each for Krys and Erica, but they ran out of time and came up short 3-2. Well, next week we'll find out if the jinx will continue. It's been 28 seasons and the parents have yet to notch a victory. Could this be the game that breaks the skid? The Red Sox finally broke their losing streak and the White Sox emerged out of their drought. Maybe the parents can join them. If not, they may establish the longest run of futility ever. Their laid-back style may not bode well for them. While the coaches looked good at the end of today's match, the parents have not shown much inclination to get on the field and practice. And with the players at the top of their game, next week looms as a one-sided contest. Recent games have been influenced by the referee's calls and we hear there may be a surprise ref next week, which will only add to the uncertainty for the parents. Maybe miracles still happen. We'll see. Rich Bletsch, Director

11/7/05 GAME: Bratz vs Panthers - The Bratz were lucky enough to get another warm day to play soccer. The girls showed their spirit and versatility once again by playing with no extra players. The defense worked hard to keep the play on the other side of the field with powerful forward passes and beautifully placed throw-ins. The offense showed everyone how much they have learned this season with a display of fancy footwork and finishes at their opponents goal. Unfortunately, in the course of play, Camryn Finkel hurt her finger and had to sit out the last half of the game (although I found out after the game she's ok now and that her finger is ready for action again!). The 5 remaining girls on the field first made sure their friend was ok and then came out short one player on the field and played a second half of soccer that was better than the first half! The field was played by Emma Aquino, Zoe Araujo, Julie Compton, Camryn Dluginski, Camryn Finkel and Emma Quinn. As always I am proud of my soccer Bratz. 11/7/05 GAME: Panters vs Bratz- It was a beautiful day for soccer, but the Panthers had no time to watch clouds, chase butterflies or dig up worms - iit was time to get serious and get ready to face the powerhouse Bratz team. The girls came with their A-game today and fought tough all game long. The girls did not score, but Kaitlyn Krems, Sofia Montonia and Brandi Mahajic made several spirited runs up field with the ball - only to be denied by the tough Bratz D. The Panther defense was led by Mackenzie Griffin, Sophia Leeds and Alic Tataro who each broke up several Bratz Attacks and cleared the ball nicely. The goal tending of Julia Gordon [7 stops], Casey Borduos [5 stops], Giulia Giuliano [3 stops] was superb all game long and kept the game close. Super Effort Girls! Jenna - we missed you. The Panthers send our best wishes to Camryn Finkel on the Bratz who hurt her finger pretty bad in the game - we hope she is ok.

Festival Games

Once again the U6 Wildcats girls got beautiful weather to wrap up their season (maybe this makes up for all the rain that we had in the middle of the season!). The girls all had a great time and gave the crowd the soccer show that they wanted. There were fast breaks, powerful shots on goal, solid defense and goal keeping. As I looked at all the teams on the field I realized how far these young ladies have come as soccer players, teammates and friends. As a coach I am so proud of our division. I wanted to thank my fellow coaches Joanne Pierce, Eddie Mooney and Kevin Krems, all the official and unofficial assistant coaches and all the families that show up each week to cheer the girls on for making this season great. See everyone next season; Terence

The U6 Cabbage Patch season ended in style today as the Panthers, Dolphins, Bratz and Bobcats battled it out in season ending Festival. The weather was surprisingly pleasant for this time of year, making it a very comfortable day for all. All the teams gave it their maximum effort - and really came to play - displaying how far they have come from the beginning of the season, flashing nifty cut-back moves, hard laces shots, strong clearing kicks and passing. This development is testimony to the hard work of the coaches, the players and the parents who are all giving of their time to make this all happen. As Division Director, I want to personally thank Joanne Pierce, Terence Aquino, Eddie Mooney and all the assistant coaches for all their volunteer efforts, making this a very successful season. I also want to thank the parents for shuffling their kids back and forth to the games and practices. And most importantly, I want to thank the kids for all the smiles, the high fives, and that gleam in their eye when they just realized how to launch a perfect lace shot. That's what it's all about. Not all went perfect with the Festival as the Division Director, of all people, forgot to bring the juices and snacks! To all the players and parents, I want to take a moment to apologize for the gaffe. Thanks, Kevin Krems, U6-Girls Division Director

Cheetah Girls

The Cheetah Girls played short handed today. Caitlin Cosme and Mariella Facibene played nicely together to get a couple of shots on goal. Caroline Stigliano came out of her shell getting a couple of passes to her teammates. Danielle Gerbe and Melissa Thomas came up big on defense with some huge kicks. Emma Nidermaier, Natalie Kariotis, and Jennifer Morrone tried to muster up some team work to get a couple shots on goal. Keep kicking!

Soccer Bunnies - The Bunnies had a lot of fun at the entertaining season-finale festival on November 13th. They hopped to great efforts in 3 quick games and many played in goal even when they didn't want to! The girls put out a huge effort all season and their parents are very proud of them. The team had a lot of fun and played some good soccer into the bargain. Many thanks Rich Schlueck, Ed Castro and Paul Krische for their help, and to all the parents for their enthusiastic support. The Autumn 2005 Soccer Bunnies are: Aoife Fitzgerald, Isabelle Brenes, Andrea Castro, Maya Castro, Amanda Choy, Nicole Farishian, Sheila Krische, Eleni Muratore, Gina Pepe, and of course, Natalie Schlueck. Don't forget to sign up for the spring season soon!

Angels vs Parents

On the final day of the season the Angels squared off against the parents in a rousing finale. Although the parents played well they were easily outscored by the Angel team. It was a fitting finish to an excellent season as a good time was had by all. Congratulations Angels: Amanda, Crista, Jane, Bianca, Eva, Catherine, Gabriella, Maeve, and Dana. A special thank you to Coach Daniel and Coach Milan. The Angels would like to thank all the parents for your support and cooperation during the fall season and we look forward to seeing you again for the indoor season and in the spring.

Power 3, Thundercats 2 -The Power just edged out the Thundercats to win a thrilling Championship game. This represented the best of what soccer is about - 2 teams playing a very hard competitive game, but in the best sporting spirit. Congratulations to Coach Kevin and the TCats for such a great performance. The Power win was achieved by a huge team effort and a battling performance by all the players. Our reluctant goalies Brianna Magenheim and Camille Bangug did a super job and hustled extremely well on defense also. Taylor Barnard was a major impact player on defense and offense. Sabrina Mauro and Marissa Palazzo hustled tirelessly all over the field. Sara Seper came up huge again with an equalizer and the winner, and Aisling had her season's strongest game and another good goal. We missed you Sophie Robinson and Emily Smith, but everyone played their part in what turned out a perfect season. Thanks to Coach Jamie Barnard, Joey and Tod for their help, we didn't need Bill Belichick in the end. The Bonnet Division season went very well, and a huge thank you must go to all the coaches, Bob Willoughby, Danny O'Sullivan, Mike Randazzo, Kevin Leahy and Juan Barrios. They put in a lot of work, not only coaching and organizing, but setting up nets, lining fields, making countless phone calls, etc. and their dedication is much appreciated. Special congratulations to Juan and the Kicking Kittens for the Sportsmanship award. Special thanks also must go to Mary and all the coaches' significant others; while we're off doing all this stuff, they're working very hard behind the scenes on a lot of stuff, including ensuring the quality of meals at home remains reasonable. Finally, thanks to all the parents for your support and enthusiasm. Don't forget to sign up for the Spring Season soon! Cheers, DF.

Lady Stormcats 3 vs. Lady Cheetahs 1 - In what was a pulsating final the Stormcats came out on top. This was a team victory with every girl contributing. Great goalkeeping by Sophia and Rosalia who stopped everything that came their way. On defense Nicole C and Erin stopped the Cheetahs every time they attacked. The midfield players in Kiera, Sabrina and Keeley were incredible passing the ball back and forth. Up front Brinna had a great game putting away the first goal of the game. The other two goals were scored by Erin one on a penalty kick after Keeley was taken down in the box and the other was a classic goal when Erin weaved in and out between 4 players and sent the ball into the left corner of the net. Great job girls so from Coaches Dan, Eamonn and Tommy congratulations. We missed Laura and Nicole K.

Lady Bengals 0 Valley Stream 0 - This was a fitting end to an excellent first season as a travel team. Offensively the girls played very well with precision passing that created several quality scoring chances. Unfortunately, we could not find a way into the Valley Stream net. All season the offensive group of Stephanie Jozkowski, Maggie Murnane, Katherine McCune, Dena Cavallaro, Alexa Epstein and Rachel Hand exhibited great talent and have begun to mesh as a unit. Defensively, we missed Meghan Lotti for much of the season but with her return the talented group of Kathy Kariotis, Gina Cacchioli, Allison Hand and Ariana Bruschi started to come together as a force to be reckoned with. Lastly, our goaltending was handled mainly by Claire Lanzo and backed up by Katherine McCune who both had an outstanding season and will continue to improve. It has been a pleasure for me, Coach Steve and Coach Joe to work with such a great bunch of girls who are extremely talented, hardworking and just all around awesome! A special thanks to all the parents who come and support the girls with such great enthusiasm each week. Girls keep up the good work and good things will come. Coach Rich.

Lady Leopards 0 Hicksville 0

Hicksville's best defense was the net - it seemed to repel the soccer ball! The Lady Leopards had about a dozen shots on goal in this beautifully played game. The ball went just above the net, just to the left, just to the right, just in front, but never just in! Still, it was a day for the offense, with amazing passing, shooting, and control. Thanks to a great pass by Madison Cascio, Taylor Ross had a breakaway early in the game. Her shot on goal was intercepted just outside the net by the Hicksville goalie, who had her work cut out for her. Madison had a great pass later on after fighting for possession near New Hyde Park's net. The ball crossed the midfield line and stayed on the other side for the rest of the game. Nicole DeSouza advanced the ball up the field skirting the side line with fine footwork that kept the ball in and away from Hicksville defenders. She had a shot that grazed the top of the net as it went over. Later, Hannah Zeitlin, who wrested control of the ball away from Hicksville, also watched her shot touch the top rim. Kaitlin Shea has become a master at blocking the other team's throw-ins. She takes the ball, and takes off! She had a crossing shot that sent the rest of the offense charging the net, and the Hicksville goalie scrambling to get her hands on the ball. Danielle Michaels blocked a goal kick to keep the ball in Hicksville's danger zone. Danielle wins every race for the ball, on the ground, and in the air. Her breakaways resulted in close shots. Madison's block-and-pass maneuvers were instrumental in keeping possession for Lady Leopards. In fact, the ball spent very little time in front of New Hyde Park's net. When it was there, defenders Alana Cohen, Eve Rigas, Caroline Weinberg, and Rebecca Lewis were on the job, as was goalie Celeste Lyons, who threw herself into full-body saves. Even without a single goal on either side, it was an incredibly exciting game!

Lady Leopards 1 RVC 3

Stamina was the name of the game for the Lady Leopards as they played with only one sub against a full complement of opponents. Everyone worked hard, pounding the turf from one side of the field to the other. Our goalie, Celeste Lyons, kept herself busy with plenty of saves. Nicole DeSouza repeatedly got the ball away from RVC's defense, and ran it up the line. Alana Cohen charged the ball, and didn't allow RVC to get it away from her. Danielle Michaels kicked the ball ahead, then, shifting into warp speed, met it at the other end of the field. In a beautiful shot, Danielle scored New Hyde Park's only goal. Taylor Ross demonstrated her skill at juggling with her head and knees to keep possession of the airborne ball. Madison Cascio positioned herself well in defense to be a major threat to RVC's advance with her blocking and great kicks. Her powerful throw-ins advanced the ball ahead, giving a break to the game weary legs of her teammates. Rebecca Lewis playing up on defense found herself making passes in the offensive zone. As usual, Caroline Weinberg provided a blanket of security near the net, holding back any attack. The Lady Leopards played this final game of the season with the same teamwork, good sportsmanship, persistence, and hard work that characterized all their matches. They can be very proud of all they have accomplished as they look ahead to the spring. Thanks to Coach Chris Corey for being at the game and for having fun drills. A special thanks to Coach Gavin Shea, who goes the extra mile every day for the team. Thanks also to Coach Henry Michaels, who takes on team responsibilities with grace and good humor, and to Coach Marcie Zeitlin, a.k.a. Mrs. Incredible.

NHP Lady Stormcats 2 - Lynbrook 2 - our girls ended the Fall season with an action packed game today and victory was in hand as the go-ahead goal was sailing into the net, but the official blew the whistle ending the game and waved off the goal. It would have been a first goal for Samantha Athenas who worked tirelessly both upfront on the attack and in the keeper spot in the first half. Amanda Cavallaro netted both goals from her right side on tremendous assists, the first coming from a super through ball from Alicia Brewer and the second from a lead pass from the hard working Dana Davis. Gina Marrano was put in at the half-back spot and created many opportunities for herself and her team-mates Emily Rennie and Patricia McMullan on the attack. Outstanding defensive work by Melanie Sferrazza along with her partner Kelly Kerrane who repelled the barrage from the Lynbrook attack and Alexandra Pappacena stepped up big-time at the Keeper spot in the second half making some super saves when we needed them. The girls missed the efforts of teammates Duryea Syed, Tabinda Syed, Roshni Amin and Jennifer Morga who were unavailable for today's game. Three Cheers for our Lady Stormcats who finished the Fall season with a winning record. They really have done well and it was fun to be a part of it. A big THANKS to Efi Domb who unconditionally gave his time and experience to the girls this season. It was really appreciated. And thanks to Bill Brewer for assisting with me, we did have a bunch of laughs along the way. Our parents are the best and their sideline cheering and support for the kids continues to be simply the best! Thanks and enjoy the "off-season."

Lady Jaguars - The Lady Jaguars are going to be given a new nick name after the last two weeks of play. They have earned the moniker of "The Cardiac Kids". The Lady Jags who came back, from a 2-0 deficit, last week to tie the Farmindale Storm did it again this past weekend as they found themselves in a hole trailing Levittown United 3-0 at the half. Coach McGrath was able to rally the girls to an inspired comeback. With some of the most supportive parents in the league silenced in the 1st half, the girls were able to get them back into the game. Jill Stacom (Assist) worked hard fighting off defenders to bring the ball up the left wing, where she crossed the ball to Erica Sousa (Assist). Erica moved the ball to Ailish Malone (Assist) who found Gabby Tomasini making a run towards the net. Gabby took the pass and drove it home for her 1st goal of the game. The N.H.P. supporters roared with approval. The girls did not let up. After having only 4 shots on goal in the 1st half, they kept the Levittown goal tender busy with 10 shots in the 2nd. With defenders Meaghan Ginty, Enza Decrescenzo, Erica Sousa, Julianne Randazzo and Emma McGrath clearing the ball and the Outstanding goal keeping of Ashley Tuffy. (Who had 14 saves) The pressure was on The United. Forward Victoria Caccamo (Assist) stole the ball from a United player and worked the ball into Levittown's end of the field, she crossed the ball to an alert Jillian Graziano (Assist) who tapped the ball to a poised Gabby Tomasini. Gabby gathered the ball and placed it into the left corner, as she juked the goal tender, for her 2nd goal. The fans were back into it, being led by Josephine Decrescenzo, the crowd erupted. The United were back on their heels and did not know what hit them. The Lady Jaguars took advantage of the momentum as Erica Sousa (2 Assists) led Gabby Tomasini who collected the ball and found the back of the net to complete "The Hat Trick" with her third goal of the game. With time running down the Lady Jaguars were trying for the knockout punch but the clock was not on their side as the whistle blew. They had earned a well deserved point. Player of the match was Gabby Tomasini with 3 goals. Honorable mention Erica Sousa (2 Assists) and Ashley Tuffy (14 saves).

11/12/05: Stray Cats 4 - Rockville Centre 1 - The Stray Cats ended their very first Fall season with a 4-1 victory over a strong Rockville Centre team. The Stray Cats jumped to a 1-0 lead when Chris Ferlazzo tipped in a rebound off a Billy Stevens corner kick. The Cats made it two-zip when Billy blasted one in when a goalie save came back to him. Later in the first half the Cats made it 3-0 when Chris Sacino scored a goal off a nice pass from Ryan Korzevinsky. Goalie Steven Cacchioli made three nice saves to shut out RVC in the first half. The Cats took a 4-0 lead in the second half on a Tyler Carrick score, with an assist to Chris Ferlazzo. Rockville Centre scored a late goal for the 4-1 final score. Second half goalie Andrew Blumenson made three nice saves. Defensemen Stephen Eranovic, Cian Fitzgerald, Bryan O'Neill, and Ciaran Stack played a super game, completely shutting down the RVC offensive attack. Thanks to the parents and friends for all their kind words and support. Special thanks to Coaches Bill Stevens, Dave Fitzgerald and Jim Carrick for all your hard work and detailed preparation for every game. And a big hand for Trainer Mike for all his efforts this fall!
