TOP SOCCER

On an absolutely gorgeous day, NHP participated in the annual Plainview/Old Bethpage Tournament at the Soccer Park. Unfortunately, we ran into a conflict with the Challenge Baseball Tournament, which depleted our numbers, but not our enthusiasm. Those that came played some quality soccer. Nick Pusateri and Ryan McCurry were a huge part of a combined junior team. They displayed excellent ball skills and Ryan contributed with a rocket for a goal. Alex Warner played on a mixed intermediate squad and made his presence felt with great tackles at midfield. Stefani Egre, Andrew Abberton and Matt Saraiva started on an intermediate team and dominated the play. Eventually, they graduated to a senior team. They responded well with Stefani and Andrew each scoring a goal. Joining with the North Shore team they formed a potent group. Stepping up their game and rising to the challenge, passing dominated the play. They represented NHP well. After the games were ended, the entire tournament feasted on hot dogs and hamburgers. Washing down everything with cold drinks, we topped off the dining with much appreciated ice cream. The HBC TOPSoccer program celebrated their 25th year of existence with a commemorative cap given to each player. Everyone also received a beautiful trophy and a soccer ball, donated by LIJSL. The festivities ended with pictures taken on Harley motorcycles by the generous and gracious bike owners. It was a great time for all. Thanks to our usual superb coaches who are always there to lend a helping hand. They've been great!

Well, next week raps up our spring season with the parents vs. the players grudge match. The anticipation has been building up in recent weeks as the parents have been hinting at some kind of secret practicing that's been going on. It may just be some trash-talking, especially if history is any indication, because they have lost every match since Earth Angel was a #1 hit and being played by Cousin Brucie on WABC (long before WCBS-FM even started). The players are bursting with confidence after playing so well at the P/OB tournament, and rightly so. It could be a long morning next week for the parents. Now might be the time to cash in those old bonds and put some money of this one - early odds have the kids at a whopping 5-1 favorite, which may only increase as the day draws closer. You know the old soccer adage (to paraphrase Mike Rennard) "talk is cheap." Rich Bletsch Director

Girls Travel Division

U-10 Girls - On Saturday June 11th the Lady Jaguars were able to put out the flame of the East Meadow Hot Shots by the score of 1-0. Head Coach Tom McGrath summed it up well when he said; "Now we're playing soccer!". The Lady Jags put on a fine display of passing against a very stubborn East Meadow team. Ashley Tuffy was wonderful in goal saving 14 East Meadow shots to preserve the shut out. On the other side of the ball the Lady Jags had 11 shots on goal and mounted many offensive attacks. However the big strike came off of the hard work of Ailish Malone(Assist) and Meaghan Ginty(Assist) who battled the Hot Shot's defenders to

find an open Gabby Tomasini who drove the ball into the net for the winning goal. The girls had to battle the heat most of the game. Some outstanding performances led the way. Enza Decresenzo had her strongest game of the year, almost scoring in the final moments of the game. "It was nice to see the girls move the ball so well." stated Asst. Coach Bernard Malone. Meahgan Ginty, Jillian Stacom, Ailish Malone, Alison Ricchiuti, Emma Innella and Jillian Graziano moved the ball well through the East Meadow zone. In addition to Gabby Tomasini's goal and offensive work she played splendid defense, at the end of the game, to support the defensive strong hold of Emma McGrath, Erica Sousa and Julianne Randazzo.

Sunday June 12th

The Lady Jaguars found themselves out of luck. A splendid

performance went for naught as the Lady Jaguars dropped the season finale to the North Shore All Stars by the score of 2-1. The Lady Jags were all over the All Stars out shooting them 16-3. All of the coaches were impressed with the effort and team play. The girls deserved to win but it was not in the cards. The North Shore goalie was sensational stopping shot after shot. Gabby Tomasini scored the tying goal on an assist from Emma Innella who fed her the ball from the left wing. Unfortunately for the Lady Jags the 2nd goal, for North Shore, was put into the Jaguars net by one of are own girls who was trying to clear the ball.

However, the girls never quit. The Jags continued the barrage on the All Stars goalie. "You couldn't ask for more from the girls, It was an outstanding effort." Stated Assistant Coach Joe Innella. Thanks to all of the screaming parents who supported the girls all season long. The Lady Jaguars are; Ashley Tuffy, Alison Ricchiuti, Enza Decrescenzo, Erica Sousa, Meaghan Ginty, Gabby Tomasini, Julianne Randazzo, Jillian Stacom, Ailish Malone, Jillian Graziano, Emma McGrath and Emma Innella.

The New Hyde Park Lady Stormcats GU-10

The team finished their season today and this picture tells it all. No matter what the outcome of the contest, they left the field with big smiles on their faces. They played their hearts out and learned to play hard, have fun and never quit. And, they also taught me a few things or two. Not a bad thing, to learn something new, at my tender age! Throughout the season, the girls were competitive, showed steady improvement and had all of us on the edge of our seats regardless of the outcome of their matches. They also made it into the Semi-finals of the Waldbaums Cup that is an outstanding achievement. The girls will now prepare for team try-outs involving all 3 of our NHP U-10 Girls teams, re-group, and then, get ready for the Fall 2005 season as a U-11 team. I wish to thank my assistant, Bill Brewer who has been a friend and confidante for many years, and who knew the right times to tell me to "relax". Our parents, who have been nothing but supportive this past year, are the best, and I thank them for that and for their positive encouragement shown to the girls. A big thumbs up and a "Well done" to my girls The Lady Stormcats: Roshni Amin, Nicole Bateman, Alicia Brewer, Amanda Cavallaro(who was missed today),Dana Davis, Kelly Kerrane, Gina Marrano, Alexandra Pappacena, Emily Rennie, Paige Rigas and Melanie Sferrazza. Thanks, Dominic......Kick those Samba's off, put on the flip-flops and enjoy the summer!
