This year the bash was held at the Jericho Terrrace in Mineola and
it was a delightful event. The room, although packed, was roomy and airy and the food was delicious. All the seniors had a wonderful time dancing to the music of DJ Ron Coleman.
North Hempstead Town Supervisor Jon Kaiman welcomed the group and said, "It is important for the town to bring people together, as we have done today, and to work with each other to improve your quality of life.
"This year we plan to do more events involving the parks and it will involve senior groups and youth groups. We have beautiful parks in the town and we are trying to make them better. This summer you will see the difference as you come to Funday, Monday. We are even trying to take over Hempstead Harbor Park and to open that area up for additional events.
"However, we need to hear from you as to what you want from your town. We know, at the beaches, that you want improved rest rooms and more food outlets, but we also need to hear from you with your other ideas.
"You have lived here for many years and this is your town and we want to hear from you what you want and what you don't want. So, keep in touch with us."
Kaiman went on to thank the members of the Community Services Department and especially Commissioner Madge Kaplan.
He then introduced to the group the Nassau County Comptroller Howard Weitzman who spoke about the prescription cards and how much money they have saved individual residents when ordering their prescriptions.
Town Clerk Michelle Schimel spoke to the seniors explaining to them just what their town clerk does for them in town government and she was followed by Town Tax Receiver Rocco Iannarelli who had a few quips to offer the seniors.
Councilmen Wayne Wink and Anthony D'Urso had a few words of welcome to say to those at the luncheon and then the music resumed and the seniors got back to the business of eating and dancing.
Commissioner Kaplan thanked profusely Frank and Rita Castagna of the Americana for their support in supplying prizes for the event and to Larry and Fran Pierce for supplying Pierce buses to transport the seniors to the Jericho Terrace for the magnificent luncheon.
