Supervisor Jon Kaiman and Councilman Anthony D'Urso hosted a community meeting with residents from New Hyde Park Feb. 2 to discuss a proposal before the town to build athletic fields consisting of two soccer fields and one baseball field on 11 acres of land located between Spring Rock Golf Driving Range and Maple Drive. The proposed fields would be built for use by the local little leagues and soccer clubs and would be maintained by the Town's Parks Department.

"Our primary concern is to bring much needed quality athletic fields to the community while also addressing the concerns of those residents who live in the area such as noise and traffic," said Supervisor Kaiman.

"I am delighted to see that this meeting was well attended," added Councilman Anthony D'Urso. "This new development will accomplish two things: it will redeem a dormant piece of property by putting it to a good use; and it will create new recreational resources for the children in the area."

Approximately 70 residents attended the meeting. Among the issues raised by residents were environmental concerns; noise, security and maintenance concerns; and the effects of the lighting at the Tully Park facility. Anyone wishing to contact the town with additional suggestions or questions can e-mail Supervisor Kaiman at kaimanj@northhempstead.com or Councilman D'Urso at dursoa@northhempstead.com .
