TOPSoccer
The TOPSoccer Program drew to a close on Nov. 30th with the annual dinner at the Melville Marriott Hotel. All the clubs with TOPSoccer programs gather together one last time to celebrate the past year. The players with their families, friends and coaches enjoyed a festive meal followed by the awards presentation. Over 500 people were in attendance. Each player received a special gift donated by several generous benefactors, a beautiful trophy and an 8" x 10" color copy of their team photo taken at the New Hyde Park TOPSoccer Tournament in October.
A big salute to our athletes and their families for their continued support during the entire year. The super athletes were: Andrew, Debbie, Stefani, Sebastian, Nicholas, Ryan, Nicholas, Andrew, Michael, Billy, Matthew, Sean, Andrew, Joshua, Julius, Robert and Alex.
Our coaches were the best we've ever had. Kerri, Krys, Ray, Maiken, Matt, Jonathan, Megan, Amy, Kim, Amy, Katelyn, Jenny, Erica and Pete were our cadre of teenagers who make the program run. Setting up and taking down the nets, running many of the practices and being "buddies" to our young players are what makes this group so special. They are quick to volunteer and bring a contagious enthusiasm to help make the experience a joy in which to participate. While you may not see their names as stellar soccer players, they are the best of what NHP has to offer with their willingness to work with others who would not otherwise have a chance to play soccer. And while the ranks of adult coaches has dwindled, the staff of Brian Evers, Rich and Mary Jo Bursig and Jim Lawler make up for the lack of numbers with their dedication and caring not found anywhere else. I am proud to be associated with the entire group. After 27 seasons it's still a thrill to see the players at the beginning of each season running on to the field with the highest hopes as if they're going to win the World Cup. It's the best! Happy Holidays. Rich Bletsch
