TOPSoccer
The New Hyde Park Wildcats hosted the 8th annual TOPSoccer Tournament on Saturday, October 23rd. The tournament continues to get bigger and bigger with each year. While the soccer gods watched over us with great fall weather, eleven teams brought over 175 players and almost 500 people in total to Denton Avenue for our annual event. Garden City, Plainview, St. Christopher's, West Islip, Levittown, Sachem, HBC, Smithtown, Oceanside and Rockville Centre combined with NHP to participate in the most anticipated tournament on Long Island. While planning started during the summer, most of the activity began with the marking of the fields earlier this week. A dedicated crew worked several days during the few hours of sunlight available to mark the seven fields. Then early on Saturday, people were stirring before sunrise picking up nets, and dropping off food, awards and supplies at Denton Avenue. Last minute touchup of the field lines, assembling the nets and corner flags, putting up signs, bringing out tables and chairs, last minute assignments, organizing the referees, positioning the awards and giveaways all had to be done on the morning of the tournament. As the players arrived, teams were assigned to their fields and the games were underway. After several high-spirited matches, the teams were sent to have their team pictures taken. These photos will be given to each player and coach at the LIJSL's TOPSoccer dinner later this year. The teams have developed a huge appetite by this time so it's up to the blacktop for hot dogs, soda and snacks. Then before the players leave, everyone receives a commemorative medallion to wear around his/her neck, a tournament patch, a water bottle, goodie bag and a tournament T-shirt. Some of the little guys had trouble juggling all their take-home's with the food but they managed somehow. A stop off at Michelle's face painting and pick up a photo or two from past tournaments before departing with great memories. While we may not be the richest or biggest community on Long Island, we are rich with love and caring and we have a soccer family with the biggest hearts, as displayed by the outpouring of help we receive each year at this event. Thanks to: Sean, Ken, Frank, Dave, Debbie, Joe, Keith, Oksana, Jay, Kathy, Rich, Mary Jo, Jim, Bill, Tony (great to see him again) and the GCP Fire Department for the use of their house to cook the hot dogs, Michelle, the Lombardo women, Jim, Rich, Brian, Jenny, Brenda, the NHP Key Club and Maiken and our financial sponsors - Northrop Grumman (Larry Spota), JP Morgan Chase (Brian Evers) and ENYYSA. Also the golf committee - Andy Concilio, John Lundgren and Brian. Thanks to the NHP Wildcats and Dominic for their unrelenting support. Our coaches: Amy, Katelin, Megan, Jessica, Maiken, Jen, Pete, Ray, Kerry, Tiffany, Nicole, Erica, Amy, John and Matthew. My apologies if I missed anyone but your help is greatly appreciated. And to our players: Andrew, Andrew, Stefani, Billy, Debbie, Matt, Sebastian, Mike, Andrew, Nick, Alex, Ryan, Sean, Nick and Josh. Some of our players got to compete with the seniors this year for the first time and did well. Special thanks to Brian Evers, my right-hand, who has been with me since we started the program 14 years ago. And last, but certainly not least, my wife, Brenda, who has supported me in my involvement with the Wildcats for over 21 years and acted as my 'Jiminy Cricket' - couldn't have done it without you.

Oct. 24, Kickin' Kittens vs. Soccer Tigers
On a brisk autumn day the Kittens and Soccer Tigers really heated things up and treated their fans to a great game. The Kittens were led once again by the inspired and indefatigable play of Eva Chan who is demonstrating terrific leadership and teamwork. Also taking on a leadership role is Sarahelena Barrios, who was able to score on a smart hustle play. The play of Nicole Farishian continues to improve as she produced her best game of the season making numerous stops on defense. Catherine Saketos and Taylor Cosme hustled all over the field pressuring the Tigers consistently. Despite being hurt early in the game, the tough as nails Hanna Daempfle, would not be denied and was aggressive throughout the contest. Danielle Gerbe showed amazing determination and was always in the middle of the action. The Keblish girls, Katya and Kimberly, were both superb at goal making many saves. Katya also played well on the field and Kimberly was able to put a powerful shot into the net for the Kittens. Terrific game girls!! We missed Arianna Ramdass. Keep on kickin' Kittens.
Little Princesses VS. Thunder Cats
The Princesses came out strong, scoring the first goal of the game by Allison P. The girls played a feisty Thunder Cats team. Little Princess Amanda B. was up and down the field all through out the game. Victoria M. made some great passes along with Ashley W. and Catherine L., who also had some great blocks in goal. After scoring in the first half, the Little Princesses fought hard with Jessica F. all over the field, but was unable to score. The Little Princesses had many shouts on goal with a great team effort. Dana B. on defense was outstanding and Merrith P. also had some great blocks, along with Sophia F in goal. The Girls played well together on offense as well as defense under Coach Kevin's guidance. We all hope coach Bob W. is feeling better and will be back next week to lead the Little Princesses in their pursuit of Soccer Excellence.
NY Power: Today the girls played another great game against the tough Hot Shot team. Our goalies, Ciara Jennings and Aoife Fitzgerald stopped many attacks and the girls played well outfield also. Aisling Fitzgerald and Laura Roantree gave a superb all-out effort all over the pitch. Amanda Commisso and Sheila Krische were rock-solid in defense. Emma Niedermaier and Eleni Muratore looked dangerous on offense and threatened often. The girls tried hard every minute of the game and gave their parents a lot of reason to be very proud, getting better with each game. We missed you Sabrina, feel better, and McKenzie, come back soon!
Thundercats - The Thundercats played a great game against a strong Little Princesses team. Sophie Robinson and Bianca Suppa both did an outstanding job in goal. Sophie especially made some beautiful saves in the first half that kept us in the game. Our offense was supplied by the strong play of Alana Leahy and Bridgette Stacom. The girls did a super job of forcing the ball towards the Little Princesses goal. Fiona Kiernan and Emily Park both played a fantastic defensive game. They kept pushing the ball to the outside and back into our opponents side of the field. Amanda Choy and Jennifer Morrone played a great all around game. Both offensively and defensively the girls were attacking the ball. Great game soccer players. Keep up the good work.
Terriers vs. Cheetah Girls
The Terriers played a good defensive and offensive game. Our goal keepers Melanie Valdes and Nancy Licona did a good job. Julia Tarrega, Sara Wheeler and Gina Pepe did a nice job on defensive. Nice passing Julia T to Annie R. Julia Leva, Maeve O'Sullivan and Annie Randazzo had a strong offensive line. Good playing girls keep it up.

Rainbow Cats 4 Shadow Cats 1
A friendly fun game between the Rainbow Cats and the dynamite Shadow Cats ended in a 4 to 1 win for the Rainbow girls. The defense started with super net protection by Regina Siciliano, Meghan Lotti, Shana Sanichar and Jenna Ferrante. All were great goalkeepers. All the girls switched positions and defense was terrific. Tabinda Syed, Lisa Caliguri, Danielle Albanese and Adriana Brigulio were awesome at stopping the ball. Passing and maintaining positions by all the Rainbow Cats kept the ball going up field. Offense plays shifted into 3rd gear and Hannah Zeitlin scored a hat trick this game. Jenna Ferrante also scored a goal. Excellent up field plays by Samantha Chiauzzi, Dureya Syed, and Gina Cacchioli kept the action up field. Both teams played wonderful.
U-8
The Jaguars beat a tough Lady Tigers team 2-1 on Sunday.
Once again, Betsy Tanenbaum was the difference on offense with both Jaguar goals. Late in the game Jennifer Louie kept the pressure on the Lady Tigers with several shots on goal. Kim Graef, Danielle Pettrica, and Caitlin McTiernan also did an outstanding job of keeping the Lady Tigers penned in their own end in the second half. Danielle Estapinian, Morgan Roth, and Sophia Weiss contributed to the win with their usual rock solid games. Rosalia Vaglica made an outstanding save in goal, late in the game to preserve the win. Go Jaguars!!

Princesses 3 Tigers 2
Wow! What a game! Two great teams came put to play today! The Princesses played against our friends the Tigers who were ferocious. Teamwork was the name of the game today with all the girls playing their positions and using all the passing skills. They played their hearts out. The aggressive offense was led by Madison, Brittany, Maria, Susan and Gina. Superb goal keeping by Celeste, Alexis and Sophie (who also covered the midfield) you were unstoppable. Once again the tenacious defense could not be broken with Claire, Pat, Eleni and Marissa on guard. After a double overtime the Princesses won the game with a shot off Gina giving her the Hat- Trick! Girls, you should be proud of yourselves for your teamwork and spirit. Thank you Celeste. Thank you Tigers. Thank you parents. Coach Bob we missed you today- feel better soon. Great job girls! This one's for you- Coach Bob!
Soccer Power 2 Thundercats 1
In the opening round of the girls U-9 playoffs, two evenly matched teams did battle. It is unfortunate that either team had to lose, as these two teams have battled to classic finishes in the past. The Soccer Power team, to a girl, left everything on the field with a "never give up attitude". Ellen Canero patrolled our net with reckless abandon. The Hand Sisters started their day by eating their Wheaties because they played with great determination and were a force to be reckoned with. The Hand sisters' determination was infectious and Dena Cavallaro was bitten. Seconds before the half, Allison Hand raised to midfield and made a nifty move as she slid a pass to Dena Cavallaro who took the pass, fought through the defense and hit a bullet in the back of the net. Then the defense took over as Jillian Geiger, Caroline Weinberg, Brianna Morrone and Gaby Appuzzo were warriors as they continually turned back the Thundercats attack. Late in the game our offense picked up as Jenna Bacchus, Sabrina Delgiorno and Rachel Hand started to pressure our opponent's net. Next with under two minutes left in the game, Rachel Hand made a super defensive stop which created a loose ball that Dena Cavallaro scooped up, made a shake 'n bake move at midfield that left her a free path to the net which Dena promptly finished with a blast into the left corner of the net. Congratulations girls! Way to go Soccer Power.

N.H.P. Magic Cats 4 vs
Garden City Blue Devils 3
First I would like to congratulate the Magic Cat family, parents siblings and players on a very successful car wash. Great Job! Now off to the good stuff. The Magic came on the field with a plan in mind and carried it out with a big win. Our offense feeling strong put much pressure on the G.C. defense early in the game. Jen Fox putting our first goal in from a direct shot outside the eighteen was unstoppable. Then from a Nicole Contrada throw in to Ali Nilsen who put the ball across the net to Ashley Minda finishing with a text book header right into the bread basket, way to go Ashley. G. C. came back with a goal just before the half was over. The second half the Magic continued to keep the pressure on. With a corner kick put on the net by Jen and finished into the goal by midfielder Meg McCune for goal #3. On another throw in to Jen who crossed the ball over to Stacey Wood (Happy Birthday) who put in our final goal. Shannon (IRISH) Kearney gave strong support on the left with some beautiful crosses and give and go soccer! Mid fielders Sapir Edalati and Megan Favale also gave strong support along with our defensive unit, Kristen Flynn, Sami Stavish, Mary Insinga and sweeper Ali Siciliano. Great game from our keeper Amy Maxwell. Get well Jen we miss you!! Go Magic Cats!

Lady Jaguars vs the Oyster Bay Eclipse
The Lady Jaguars continued their winning ways as the sun did not shine through for the Oyster Bay Eclipse, falling to the Lady Jags by a score of 5-0. This was the 7th consecutive shutout that the Lady Jaguars have tallied.(Including State Cup Games) Strong Defense continues to be the difference. Led by Enza Decrescenzo, who had a very strong game, the Jaguars allowed only 2 shots on their goal. Julianne Randazzo, Ashley Tuffy and Jillian Stacom also kept the Eclipse offense shut down. Nice Mid-field play kept the ball in the oppositions zone most of the day. They also accounted for the majority of the scoring. Jillian Stacom scored the first goal assisted by Erica Sousa. The second goal was scored by Meaghan Ginty who broke away from the defense to score an unassisted goal. The 3rd and 4th goals of the game were both scored by Ailish Malone, one was unassisted and the other was set up by a corner kick by Gabriella Tomasini (Assist) that Ailish buried in the back of the net. The 5th and final goal of the match was scored by Emma Innella who was able to knock in a rebound from Alison Ricchiuti. Coach McGrath emphasized passing for the rest of the game. Emma McGrath, Erica Sousa, Alison Ricchiuti, Gabby Tomasini and Ailish Malone led the passing attack as the mid-fielders went up and down the field. The girls missed the services of Jillian Graziano who was ill. We hope to have her back for the upcoming weekend games, which includes our 3rd round State Cup Game vs the Syosset Arsenal at home on Oct. 31st.
