Herricks Drafts New Profile to Present to Colleges
At the suggestion of consultant Robert Laird, who has been working with the Herricks administrators, a new college profile has been drafted to send to colleges to inform them of the attributes of Herricks High School. Laird felt that the old profile was filled with unnecessary information and therefore working closely with Herricks Superintendent Dr. Jack Bierwirth and high school principal Dr. Jane Modoono and other administrators, a new profile has been drafted and is being presented to colleges for comments and so far it has received good reviews.
Merillon Athletic Association
On Oct. 3, Merillon hosted its first Special Olympic Tournament at its wonderful field on Marcus Avenue. The staff at Merillon had the fields in immaculate condition and the weather was superb. Nine teams participated in three divisions. The two Merillon entrants, based on teams from our Challenger Program, earned gold and bronze medals in their respected divisions. Mike Spielberg and his umpires volunteered their time and did a great job. Cindy Phillips, Tony Camilleri, Kerry Abberton and her friends manned the concession stand and prepared the meal for the athletes. Rich Dillon did an outstanding job preparing the fields. He was at Merillon by 6:30 a.m. The fields could not have been in better shape. The day went very well and everyone who participated had a great time. Merillon received many complements for being great hosts from the Special Olympic officials who were there and from all the coaches of the participating teams.
