Vietri Associates Cubs

Vs. Bagels N A Whole Lot More Twins

The Cubs kicked off their fall season on Saturday September 11, 2004 on a beautiful day at Merillon fields. Prior to the game all the teams paused for a moment of silence in memory of those who lost their lives on 9/11/01. The Cubs played a spirited Twins team and the game featured good fielding and hitting by both teams. The Cubs were lead by the solid fielding of James Messina, Jared Diamond, Antonio Prunella and Chris Vietri. The hitting stars included, Chris Rodriguez with two hits, Patrick McMahon with three hits, Jacob Seidenberg with two hits and Francesco Labita with two hits. A good start to the season for the Cubs who pounded out 14 runs on a day we also remember the pure joy of kids playing baseball.

The New Hyde Park Funeral Home Yankees

Vs. ABC Rental Red Sox

After a moment of silence in remembrance of 9/11, the Yankees and Red Sox faced each other in a September classic. Despite the history between the two teams the game was a gem. The Yankees came out hitting and never stopped. Their pitching was steady and almost seamed mechanical. The offense was led by the hard hitting of James Cotumaccio (4 Hits), which earned him the game ball, Ben Lee (5 Hits) Tyler Carrick (4 hits, 2 Triples) Peter Dunn (4 Hits) and Joey Richards (5 Hits). The defense also performed well, holding the mighty Red Sox offense to a minimum. Justin Diamond made several catches both in right field and second base. Nicholas Winkhart (1B), Peter Ferrante(2B), Brandan Abrams(3B) each played solid in the field. Kenny Nygard did a great job behind the plate. It was a team effort and the coaching staff is looking forward to a great fall season. Here come the YANKEES!

Mike's New Hyde Park Convenience Store Indians (10)

Vs. La Vera Pizza Giants (13)

Great game by all the Indians players in their Fall 2004 opening day game versus a strong Giants team. Down 7-2 in the fourth inning, the Indians exploded for 4 runs, then added 3 more in the fifth inning to take a short-lived lead. Our valiant comeback bid in the sixth inning came up just a bit short. The Indians offense was led by Chris Ferlazzo (single, run scored), Anthony Cacchioli (3 singles, SB, rbi), Steven Cacchioli (3 singles, 2 runs, rbi), Luis Lopez (double, single, run, SB, rbi), Andrew Curcio (2 singles, 2 runs), Brendan McNulty (2 singles, run, rbi), Thomas Jaklitsch (3 singles, run, SB, rbi), Jonathan Cioffi (single, 2 rbi), Max Ginsburg (3 singles, 2 rbi, 2 SB, run), Harrison Strows (single), Frankie Suppa (single, rbi), and Alex Lopez (2 singles, run). Especially by our new additions Louis Simione (1 for 1, double, 2 runs scored, 2 walks), David Resnick (1 for 3, 1 run scored, RBI & 2 stolen base) and Nicky Tornatore. Louis sparkled on the mound pitching the first 3 innings while striking out 4.
