New Hyde Park U-9 Girls Win Valley Stream
Memorial Day Tournament
Coach Bernie Malone's "Ravens" put on quite a display of teamwork over the holiday weekend going undefeated and only giving up one goal the entire weekend. Goalkeeper Melanie Sferrazza didn't have much work but came up BIG when she had to (11 saves). The Ravens really clicked with some really nice passing plays resulting in goals (21 goals). The entire team contributed with unselfish play. During this tournament the opposing teams chose the MVP of each game; Game#1 Erica Sousa, Game #2 Emma Innella, Game #3 Ailish Malone and Game #4 Julianne Randazzo. However, each and every member of the Ravens could have easily been named M.V.P. The Ravens are Jillian Graziano, Ailish Malone, Emma McGrath, Gabby Tomasini, Erica Sousa, Angelina Gambino, Jillian Stacom, Meaghan Ginty, Allison Ricchiuti, Julianne Randazzo, Emma Innella and Melanie Sferrazza. Congratulations on your victory! Thank you parents for all your support.
U-8 Girls-Win 2nd Place at Valley Stream Tournament
The U-8 girls battled on two glorious sunny days to take 2nd place in this well run Memorial Day Tournament. Our girls racked up three victories with one loss.
Plainedge Old Bethpage 4 Wildcats 2 - The huge POB team was physical and talented but our girls played like warriors. The offense was led by Gina Timpano and Hannah Zeitlin as they both used great determination to find the back of the net. Our defense led by Megan Lotti, Christine Bunyon and Kaitlin Shea continually turned back the POB attack. The bravest warrior of the day was Celeste Lyons as she defended our net with great skill.
Wildcats 4 Oceanside 1 - The girls finally hit their stride as the offense and defense played as a cohesive unit. The tone was set early by our defense which was controlled by Dena Cavallaro, Megan Lotti and Kathy Kariotis as they defended a talented and physical Oceanside team. The defense took control of the game as they created great opportunities for their offense. The offense taking the lead from the defensive line turned on the power and filled the net. Gina Timpano opened the scoring by taking a quick throw in by Dena Cavallaro and bulling down the right side sending a rocket into the back of the net. Hannah Zeitlin took a lead pass and rushed down the middle of the field blasting a rocket into the upper left corner of the net. Christine Bunyon was sprung by the defense and she put it into over drive, out winning the Oceanside defense and sending the ball home for our third goal. Hannah Zeitlin once again used her "relentless will" to find the corner of the net to complete the scoring.
Wildcats 2 Valley Stream 1 - Valley Stream had scored twelve goals on day one of the tournament and was a formidable opponent. Again goaltending and defense were outstanding. The defensive units of Kathy Kariotis, Megan Lotti, Christine Bunyon, Dena Cavallaro, Stephanie Jozkowski and Kaitlin Shea played with a "not in my house" attitude as they stonewalled the Valley Stream attack. Celeste Lyons patrolled our goal like a caged tiger. The offense was there when we needed it as Nicole DeSouza, Stephanie Jozkowski and Christine Bunyon peppered the Valley Stream goal. Finally, Dena Cavallaro picked up a loose ball and raced down the right side of the field and made a nifty move to the middle of the field before hitting a bullet into the goal for our first score. Just minutes later off a quick throw in, Gina Timpano found herself alone in front of the net and she blasted it home to seal the victory.
Wildcats 2 Albertson 1 - Our girls knew they needed a victory to ice second place. The girls were a little flat in the first half and we were headed for half time down 1-0. With under a minute left before half, Dena Cavallaro picked off a pass from the defensive zone and using her speed raced down the right side of the field and blasted one in to tie the score at 1-1. In the second half our offense took control of the game as Stephanie Jozkowski, Nicole DeSouza and Kaitlin Shea attacked the Albertson defense and had many scoring chances. Kathy Kariotis made a nifty move at midfield which sprung Hannah Zeitlin racing down field and blasting it home for the big win and second place. The defense again was outstanding as Megan Lotti and Kathy Kariotis were tenacious turning back the Albertson attack. The girls played terrific together and it was a pleasure coaching this group. Special thanks to Chris for his help and thanks to the parents for their support. The Valley Stream Tournament was a MVP tournament in which the opposing coaches picked an MVP for each game. Congratulations to Gina Timpano, Hannah Zeitlin, Dena Cavallaro and Christine Bunyon for receiving the awards. Coach Rich Cavallaro.

U-6 Girls Memorial Day Tournament
Our girls had a great time playing in this well run tournament. Thank you to Valley Stream Soccer Club for inviting us to play. Six girls from the Thundercats, Camille Bangug, Jillian Clark, Alana Leahy, Emily Park, Emily Smith, and Bridgette Stacom, combined with two of the Little Princesses, Jasmine Bacchus and Sarahelena Barrios form a very potent team. The team played great defense with outstanding goaltending and went unscored upon in all three games. Defensively Sarahelena Barrios and Emily Park did a great job of keeping the ball away from our goal. If the ball did happen to get by the defense it still could not get past the outstanding goalkeepers on our team. Two exceptional goaltending performances were turned in by Bridgette Stacom and Jillian Clark in the final game. Bridgette won the MVP award in game 3 for her efforts. Offensively Jasmine Bacchus and Camille Bangug both played very strong games. They continually forced the ball into our opponents defensive end. Jasmine had 5 goals on the day and her 3 goals in the first game earned her the MVP award for that game. Alana Leahy and Emily Smith both turned in fantastic all around play in each of the 3 games. Emily Smith did such a great job in game 2, including goalkeeper, that she was awarded the MVP medal for that game. Thank you to all the parents for getting the girls down to the game at such any early hour. Great job to all of the girls. Keep up the good work soccer players.
Cabbage Patch Division- Girls U-7 - 5/16/04
The Lady Tigers were a little short handed for their game against a tough Soccer Cubs team on Sunday but you couldn't tell by their effort. On a hot sunny day the girls played their usual team oriented game with great passing, defense and goaltending. Morgan Roth and Jennifer Louie led the way each scoring a goal on the day. Laila Chadli and Kiera Ward were unbelievable chasing down every loose ball possible, while Amanda Namandorf and Devin Kilcullen were absolutely spectacular in goal. Jenna Loughran showed great support on both offense and defense all day. This group of wonderful girls that I have the pleasure of watching improve week after week continue to impress the crowd with great passing, defense and overall team chemistry. Keep up the hard work and most of all keep having fun. Brittany, Roey and Rosalia we missed you and can't wait to
have you back next week.
Cabbage Patch Division- Girls U-7 - 5/23/04
WHAT A GAME !!! The Lady Tigers and Soccer Puppies teamed up together to put on a wonderful show for all those in attendance. Jennifer Louie and Brittany Rogers were spectacular as usual keeping the pressure on all day with the help of Kiera Ward and Laila Chadli. It was a tough defensive battle all day as Roey Klass, Amanda Namandorf and Jenna Loughran were outstanding in defense as Devin Kilcullen was solid in goal . Rosalia Vaglica contributed on both sides of the field as The Lady Tigers were relentless on the offensive end until they finally broke through a strong Soccer Puppies defense late in the game as Brittany Rogers scored the game's only goal with an assist from Morgan Roth. It has been an
amazing season so far and I hate to see it end. We all look forward to having a wonderful day with family & friends at the season ending festival on June 6th.

Arsenal vs. Blackburn
A hot and humid day proved to bring the best of Arsenal who prevailed in a hard fought 5 to 3 victory. Arsenal jumped out right from the opening kick as Nick Perrone took a run down the left and made a beautiful cross to John Tripptree. John was not done yet as he single-handedly made it 2-0 just minutes later. As the game developed, Blackburn proved they also were not done and came back for a two all halftime score. In the second half, Joe Carbone showed some great foot work for a 3-2 lead. Again, Blackburn fought through to tie once more. At this point Alex Montoni took it upon himself to get to a loose ball in the offensive zone and feed Nick for the go-ahead goal. With time running out and the Blackburn goaltender out of the net, John Tripptree showed some flash with a quick run down the right and a long score for the final. None of the Arsenal heroics would have been possible without the diligent work of Matt Perno, who dug out loose ball and moved Arsenal into the attack zone. Gabe Skugor was also a valuable player in this area. Hats off to our great goaltender, Mike Marini. His play is an inspiration to the whole team. Congratulations to all the boys. Job well done.
Manchester United vs. Newcastle
Manchester United played a terrific game with Newcastle. The heat was overpowering, but both teams fought it and played their best. Manchester United started off slow, but quickly got into the game. When no one else could, Ricky Schlueck and Kenneth Choy were out on the field, running and constantly pushing the limit of their abilities. Peter Gadze and Chris Ernest once again took the position of forward to a whole new level with many goals, kicks, and more importantly, a lot of spirit. Defense was at its best this game, with Eric Bialczak, Mark Gimelstein, Aseer Amin, and Andrew Yu, who all played their hardest. As always, Jonathan Ptacek did a magnificent job in goal. The whole team is commended for their teamwork, sportsmanship and desire to win. Good luck to all of you in the championship game next week.
Newcastle played their hearts out in the heat. Manchester United was just too much for us today. Dylan had our only goal with a blast from the right side. Kevin Towey, Chris Kariotis, and Mark Roantree pressured the goal. Tim Chan and Joe Carbone played great defense. Domenico Fazzolari and Eric Samain saved dozens of shots. We missed you, Brian Baracaldo. Thanks to Kevin Towey Sr. and Colleen Ross for helping this season. Thank you for letting me, Socrates, coach these great group of kids. Have a great summer and good luck as we move into the next step up!

England vs. Scotland
The boys of England played their hearts out against the ever tough team Scotland in a sudden death overtime nail-biter. England's forward line of Michael R, Tyler C, Noel J and Evan C kept pressure on the Scotland defense until Michael was able to land one in the back of the net. The defense of Matt S, Mark F and Andrew C were able keep things in check most of the game only letting one ball by. Dominick was superb in goal blocking anything that came his way. In overtime team England really started to apply the heat that finally led to the shot by Michael that put this team in the championship round. Way to go boys!
Congratulations to both teams on a fantastic game that took a whole five minutes overtime to decide. Team Scotland battled for the entire game with no subs and came up just a little short. Peter Crehan made all of the routine saves in goal and some spectacular saves as well. Kenny Joseph played with relentless abandon on offense providing constant pressure and scoring the teams only goal. Andrew Blumenson played a fantastic game on defense and was also effective bringing the ball up field when needed. Matthew Davang, Peter Keenan and Matthew Pappacena played great games both on offense and on defense. The three of them along with Alex Spinoccia, who could not make the game, and Peter Crehan improved tremendously this season. The six players on team Scotland did the best they could, but in the end team England was just a little bit better.
Brazil vs. Ireland
A terrific game by all the Brazil players in a tough defeat to a strong Ireland team. Brazil's offense was led by crisp passing from Matt Dluginski, Jerry Raju, and Amit Mehrota. Chris Ferlazzo scored both of Brazil's goals on breakaways behind the Ireland defense. Steven Cacchioli and Anthony Cacchioli were outstanding on defense, completely shutting down Ireland's offensive attack. Goalkeeper Chris Cataldo was superb, making save after save. Great game and season Brazil! Thanks to Coach Joe Cacchioli for all your help. Special thanks to all the parents for your support and kind words.

Webspinners vs. All Stars
A well played game by both teams, with Coach Varrone running his All Star team at a good hard pace. A hard fought game by everyone, with the deciding goal made by Mateo Diaz of the Webspinners, a rocket from 30 yards out , giving the Spinners a 1-0 win. Another outstanding game by MVP goalie Liam Deery, and offensive pressure put on by Brendan Sullivan and John Paul Sanchez. Matt O'Connor, Austin Brennan, Dominick Oliveri and Tim Fogarty led the way on defense, protecting their goal from a very good offensive All Star team, led by young Michael Varrone. Ryan ODonnell played goal for the All Stars, and did outstanding. Thanks to Coach Varrone and all the other coaches for a good, fun soccer season. Looking forward to the fall.

NHP Lady Cougars 2 Farmingdale 1
May 22, 2004
The New Hyde Park Lady Cougars squared off against the Farmingdale Rebels on this really hot and muggy spring day. It took a while to get things going, but it ended up being a really exciting game, which remained scoreless for the entire first half. With about 10 minutes left in the game, Danielle Gaspe set up a channel pass to Alicia Mercurio, who turned to shoot on goal and scored. The Rebels answered that goal with one of their own within seconds. Fortunately, with one minute left of play, Katie Poppe sent a corner kick to the middle of the goal and Melanie Pavlidis turned and took a shot and scored, bringing us to our final score of 2-1. Our super midfield, Melanie Pavlidis, Lexie Pevoraro, Angelica Eranovic, Casey Mangin, Brianna Messina and Christina Restivo (who played excellent defense in the first half), together with our strong and reliable defense, Lucia Castellano, Danielle Gaspe, Katie Poppe, Jessica Iammeteo, did an outstanding job of shutting down their offense. Eden Glodstein really came alive in goal. Keep up the good work girls, just two more games to go!
