Although their budget meetings will not be held until after press time this week, both Herricks and the New Hyde Park/Garden City Park School districts have tentatively decided to put their failed budget up for a revote on June 15. The Sewanhaka Central School District will also hold its revote on June 15.
The New Hyde Park/Garden City Park School Board will hold a budget meeting on May 26 and Herricks will hold their budget meeting on May 27. The date of their budget hearings will be decided at that time and will be reported in next week's edition of the Illustrated News along with the terms of the budget to be submitted.
Herricks did hold a meeting last Thursday, but since it was not a budget meeting the revote and the terms of it were not discussed. However, some members of the audience felt that the exact same budget should be submitted again and they expressed confidence that it would be passed the next time. They said voter apathy was due, in part, to the budget failure, and then one resident said that college students would be home and they would be able to vote and that would assure that the budget would pass. However the decision to submit the same budget or to change it will be made at the budget meeting.
