School Board Votes to Adopt Budget with 9.84 Percent Increase
The New Hyde Park/Garden City Park K-6 School Board voted, after a lengthy discussion, to present to the public an increased budget of 9.84 percent for a vote on May 18. This amount will translate to approximately $177 per average household. Further, the Sewanhaka School Board has settled on a budget increase of 8.83 percent and, according to Sewanhaka Assistant Superintendent for Business Warren Meierdiercks, this translates to an amount of $207 for the average household assessed at $300,000. Taxpayers must also add the increase of the Hillside Library Budget, which is 6.17 percent and that number added to the other two will result in the overall tax increase for the average household of residents in the New Hyde Park/Garden City Park school district for the coming year.
