New Hyde Park Village will hold its first Easter Egg Hunt this Saturday, April 3. The festivities will start with a brunch at 11 a.m. at Marcus Christ Hall and then everyone will go outside for the beginning of the Easter Egg Hunt. As of now, this event is filled to capacity, however, call the village at 354-0022 to see if perhaps there are any cancellations.

Trustee Robert Lofaro reminded residents that the New Hyde Park Beautification Committee will hold its Spring clean-up on April 17. Those interested in being involved are to meet at the village hall parking lot at 9 a.m. Volunteers are expected to be Boy and Girl Scouts and members of the beautification committee and their families as well as anyone else who would like to help clean up the village.

Planting Day will be held sometime in May and that date will be announced at a later time.

Trustee Richard Coppola announced that he has been speaking to POP (Problem Oriented Police) Officer Nick Mosesso and Officer Mosesso told him that the burglar who robbed the village Fleet Bank twice, has been caught.

Further, in conjunction with questions posed at the last meeting, regarding the Hall Flooring site, officer Mosesso informed trustee Coppola that he observed the area and found no trucks outside, however, he will continue to monitor the site.

Trustee Donald Barbieri announced that he recently attended a function of Nassau County Housing Intergovernmental Affairs and block grant funding was discussed. It was decided to have NC Housing meetings quarterly to discuss the distribution of funds.

Barbieri also attended the State of the County Address given by Nassau County Executive Thomas Souzzi and had an opportunity to discuss the Jericho Turnpike Project with the new deputy executive of planning, Patrick Duggan.

He also wanted to remind residents that AARP volunteers are in the New Hyde Park Village Library on Thursdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. to help senior citizens fill out their tax returns.

Since trustee Lawrence Montreuil was absent, trustee Lofaro gave his report which included the fact that the next Zoning Board meeting will be held on April 15 at 7:30 p.m. The bid for the GM Powered Natural Gas Generator System or Equal are on file at village hall. So far there is one bidder. The bids were opened on March 22. The village will use the monies provided through the grant money orchestrated by New York State Senator Michael Balboni in the amount of $20,000 to cover the cost of the generator system.

Mayor Daniel Petruccio announced that the Business Directory is in its final stages. So much so that they are just waiting to receive a copy of a picture of the mayor and then they will begin printing.

The spring newsletter is being compiled and will include a calendar of the Memorial and Nuzzi Park programs for the season plus registration forms.

Petruccio thanked the members of the board for all the long hours they have worked to put together the budget for 2004/2005.

During the public portion of the meeting Dr. Michael Levine, owner of 810 Jericho Turnpike, formerly Pace Pharmacy, appeared before the board to request that his building be returned to two stores as it was originally, known as 808 and 810 Jericho Turnpike. Further, he requested that the fire wall be reinstalled. He explained that it is very hard to rent such a large store. He said that he has two renters if he can restore the building to two stores. He said the potential renters would be Blimpie's and a trophy store.

The board mentioned to Dr. Levine, that they would have no problem with him restoring the fire wall, however, he would have to submit his plans to Sam Horowitz, Building Superintendent and he might even have to appear before the Zoning Board of Appeals. It was also suggested that he meet with Sam Horowitz. He was also advised to get his plans approved; get relief from the moratorium from the board and, if necessary, get Zoning Board approval. The board is able to grant relief from the moratorium by means of a resolution. Mayor Petruccio mentioned that the Jericho Turnpike Revitalization Project would enhance his chances of renting.

Resident Edward Powers questioned the transfer of $130,020 listed in the agenda. He also wanted to know the status of writing and updating the village code. He also wanted to know if tier and multi-level parking would be addressed in the code. Mayor Petruccio said now that village attorney John Spellman is back working full-time and also busy working on various sections of the code at the same time.

Resident Jerry Trimboli said that there is an excess of speeding on Covert Avenue and asked if it would be possible to have the "speed" trailer placed in that area. It was noted that there is only one speed trailer for the 3rd Precinct and that is shared by the entire precinct. He said that since this is such a dangerous situation would it be possible to have a policeman placed at this location.

New Hyde Park Village Clerk Patrick Farrell also said that he, too, has had a number of calls regarding this situation.

Mr. Trimboli also wanted to know the status of using the Stewart Manor pool. It was explained that trustee Montreuil, who was going to pursue this matter is absent.

Trimboli also requested that a Stop sign be placed on South 8th Street. Trustee Lofaro explained that the site was formerly discussed and a survey was sent to residents for their opinion. At that time, the results of the survey indicated that the residents did not want a Stop sign in that location.

Trustee Coppola suggested that everytime there is a car speeding in that location that Mr. Trimboli call 911 and report it.

The meeting was adjourned into executive session. The next New Hyde Park Village Board meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 6. However, the Annual Meeting of the Village of New Hyde Park will be held on Monday, April 5 at which time the budget will be discussed. Each meeting will be held at village hall. For further information, please call 354-0022.
