  • Sports: New Hyde Park Wildcats Roundup

I would personally like to thank everyone who attended our club's 25th Anniversary Dinner/Dance on the 14th of November at the Jericho Terrace. We had a total of 296 attendees and the evening was a smash from start to finish. The evening began with the cocktail hour, as guests began filling the room. I formulated my strategy for this hour: should I fall back on the defensive line and get a table and then formulate what my next move would be? Or, should I go on the offensive and move around, freely, ready to strike at will? I chose the roving striker method, although some would accuse me of being of the more defensive mode.......maybe.....but we were talking food and drink now, not soccer...I began with the lobster in a creamy pink sauce and quickly moved onto the mussels and clams. Suddenly I switched the field to the eggplant rollatini and then went on to sample the remaining appetizers...all receiving a resounding "thumbs up". I was caught off guard for a brief moment by the "Atkins Crowd" pity them, for they know not what they do.......no bread, no pasta......that's a sin, isn't it? And then, after an hour of fine food, drink and conversation, it was time for our Dinner upstairs to start. As we made our way to the room, one couldn't help being impressed by our surroundings and when we entered our banquet room, what an impressive sight inside. Our Dinner committee had done a smashing job on decorating the room. The lay-out was great and the silver boots (hint hint.25th Anniversary) on the tables with our blue, white and red club colors was a work of inventive ingenuity!! Once again, I want to personally thank the Committee: Angela Leva, Angela Perrone, Terry Driscoll, Andy Concilio, Caryl Lorrandini, Marilyn Gaspe, Janet Lopez, and Phyllis McGonigle for the fantastic job. After Angela Leva opened up the evening, Andy Concilio took the mike to introduce past Board members and to give a Gift to them from the Club. In addition, he gave recognition plaques to Annette Giaratini, Rich Hess and Penni Tloczkowski for their years of service to the club. And now, it was my time to come up.....I'd be the first to admit that reading from a prepared "speech" is not my forte' and judging from my performance, while reading, it was apparent. My apologies for the gaffs and also to Dave Gilroy, my friend, who I almost omitted from my introduction of Board members. But after yells of "Dave, Dave, Dave, you forgot Dave" I nervously mentioned his name. Boy, talk about putting marbles in your mouth. So after that, my "beautiful speech" went flying out the window. You'll all have to read my message in the Journal to get a hint of what I was going to say. Oh well.....so much for that....and now it was time for the fun to start....Steve Zornberg did a great job with his entourage making the music flow and keeping the dance floor packed. Some might have wondered about my dancing "technique", but I thoroughly enjoyed my many attempts at dancing!! The photo montage was something special and seeing those pictures from the past and listening to "Blue Skies" in the background was super. ( The photo of the ZZTop look-alike was me! ) The evening was a nite to remember and need I say, the 50/50 contest has got to be the BEST IDEA that anyone has ever thought of for a function. After the raffles were done, the music and dancing continued until closing. I'm sure there were some that continued onto The Old Schilling Pub for a late-nite nite-cap. In closing, I hope everyone who attended the affair had a great and memorable time and want to thank them again for their support of this Dinner. It won't be forgotten and I hope to see everyone back again next year. Thanks, Dominic FULL STORY
