  • News: Civic Associations and LIPA Beautify New Hyde Park

    Marianna Wohlgemuth, Lakeville Estates Civic Association, has been an activist for many years. "As an environmentalist, I have always been concerned about the effect of the environment on our quality of life, especially with pollution being a leading cause of allergies, asthma and possibly cancer. I truly believe trees and shrubs clean the air and make the world a better place." This belief is what led her to pursue, with the Long Island Power Authority, LIPA, a beautification program on the northeast corner of Lakeville Road at it's intersection with Union Turnpike. With the help of North Lakeville Civic Association member Marietta DiCamillo, a joint letter was written to Richard Kessel, chairman of LIPA. "Knowing Mr. Kessel's record for being responsive to the public we decided to write a letter asking him to help us. The existing trees were no longer providing an adequate buffer and had become very unsightly," noted DiCamillo. FULL STORY

  • News: Floral Park Pool Causes Rusty Water in Village

    A New Hyde Park village resident of 7th Avenue complained, at the last board meeting, that during the July 4th weekend there was discolored rusty water in his home. When he contacted the Western Nassau Water Authority, he was told that the Floral Park pool had been tapping off the New Hyde Park water mains. It was also stated that Floral Park was filling their pool at 5 a.m. As a solution they have been advised to reschedule the filling of their pool to midnight. FULL STORY

    Another super game by all the Rangers against a tough Yankees team. The Rangers offense was led by Andrew Curcio with 2 singles, 1 run scored and 1 RBI; Steven Cacchioli 2 singles and 1 run scored; Chris Ferlazzo 2 singles and 2 runs scored; John Leva 2 singles, 2 runs scored and 1 RBI; Frank DiSanto 3 singles, 1 run scored and 1 RBI; Dan Flori 2 singles and 2 RBIs; Brian Lam 2 singles and 2 RBI; Anthony Cacchioli 2 singles and 1 run scored; Giovanni Castelli 3 singles, 1 run scored and 1 RBI; Jake Petriello single; Kyle Kay 2 singles; and Andrew Kraus 2 singles and 1 RBI.
