Danny Chiofalo, Mike Zovich and Jonathan O'Brien were fantastic in the field, playing solid defense. All in all this was a terrific first outing, however the Cardinals must come together as a team. We'll get them next time Cards!

Greenpoint Savings "Patriots" (1) Vs. Freeport (3)
The Patriots lost a tough one in the opener of the Mid Island Tournament. Facing a good Freeport team the Patriots opened the game with a double by Johnny Mahon followed by a walk to David Luchino, both runners advanced on a double steal but were stranded. Drew Carrick pitched one heck of a game and if not for 2 outfield missteps might have won. Drew pitched 6 innings giving up only 3 hits, while striking out 7. Drew also went 1 for 2 with 1 stolen base. Web gems were turned in by Matt Dillon who had 2. While playing center field Matt made a great running back hand catch of a line drive to the gap then as catcher threw out a base stealer at 2nd base late in the game. David Luchino also had 2 web gems, first backing up a smash line drive off of the third baseman's glove and forcing the runner at 2nd base, then catching a relay throw from centerfield, David spun and fired a strike to nail the runner trying for a triple. In the sixth inning the Patriots attempted a comeback. After Matt Dillon led off with a walk, Luis Gaitan smashed a double into the gap scoring our only run. Michael Robert Lewis walked bringing the go ahead run to the plate, but the rally fell short. Michael Ibrahim, John Fitzgerald, Danny Spratt (1 for 1 with a walk and stolen base) Christian Theodoropoulos, Evan Leung and Matt Miller all played solid defense. Tough lost guys but I saw tremendous heart in this team....go Patriots!
July 17
Greenpoint Savings "Patriots" (4) Vs. Baldwin (9)
The Patriots let this game get away. Facing a solid Baldwin team the Patriots just couldn't string any hits together. Solid pitching performances were turned in by Evan Leung ( 2 innings 1 K), David Luchino (2 innings, 4 K's) and Drew Carrick ( 2 innings, 2 K's), but were undermined by sloppy play. Offensively the Patriots were led by Michael Ibrahim who launched a triple to deep left field knocking in 3 RBI's; David Luchino again was hot at the plate going 2 for 3; Matt Dillon scorched a line drive double to left and picked up an RBI. Johnny Mahon, Drew Carrick, Danny Spratt, Matt Miller, Michael Robert Lewis and John Fitzgerald all singled. Solid at bats and fielding were supplied by Christian Theodoropoulos and Evan Leung. We are going to get better guys, we'll get them next time. Go Merillon Patriots!
