Ongoing Dialogue on Herricks District Budget
Several weeks ago the Herricks School Budget was presented to the school board and to the public. The budget for 2003/2004 is projected as $67,215,045 over last year's budget of $61,114,727 which reflects an increase difference of $6,100,318. Acting Superintendent for Business John Marino explained that the budget amounts to a 10 percent expenditure increase and between 10 and 11 percent increase in the tax levy. He stated that it is not possible to estimate the new Class I tax rate because the district has not received information from the county regarding how the new assessments will impact tax rate calculations.

New Hyde Park School Presents Budget to Four Residents
At the Annual Budget Hearing for the New Hyde Park/Garden City Park School District, held on the first Saturday of March at the Manor Oaks School, only four residents were present. The total budget proposed at that meeting is $22,214,559 over last year's budget of $19,836,821 a difference of $2,377,738 or approximately a 11.99 percent increase.
