  • Sports: Merillon Little League Baseball

    Even though the temperatures have been cold lately Big Blue is Red Hot! This morning the CitiBank 9 Year Old All Stars, Big Blue, played a terrific game against the very strong Plainview All Stars and captured the Diamond Pros 2002 9U Championship! After scoring 1 run in the top of the first, Plainview tied the scored in their half. Then Plainview went ahead in the third inning 2-1. With Tommy Roulis once again pitching his heart out going all 6 innings striking out 9, walking 6 while giving up only 3 hits and 2 runs. Time was running out on the season so Coach Jimmy rallied the troops, Big Blue scored 2 in the fourth when with 2 out Frankie Pate on 3rd base and Drew Carrick on 2nd base, Steven Phillips laid down a beautiful bunt to third, Frankie broke for home forcing the third basemen into an errant throw leading to two more RBIs for Steven who had 3 on the day. In the fifth inning Joey Faller, Tommy Roulis and Jonathan Dennett walked to load the bases. After the next two batters struck out Frankie Pate, Drew Carrick and Stephen DePietto all drew bases on balls for RBIs, leading to an 8-2 victory. David Luchino, Matt Mueller, Drew Carrick and Mike Cascio all played flawless defense. Kenny Richards called a fantastic game behind the plate. The Coaches, Jimmy Richards, Steve Phillips, Lori Carrick and Mike Luchino want to thank and congratulate all the boys on a super season. The boys proved that with some hard work, a little focus and a ton of talent anything is possible. The Coaches would also like to thank all the team parents for their patience and dedication, we couldnāt have done it without you. Way to go Big Blue! You boys are truly champions.! FULL STORY

  • Sports: New Hyde Park Wildcats Roundup

    Only 2 more weeks until the seasonal parents vs. the players. With many new families in the fold, this should be a different game than the recent kid's blowouts. Rumor has it that the parents have been secretly practicing in a gym somewhere coached by Mia Hamm, Brandon Donavan and the legendary Pele. FULL STORY
