It was announced at the beginning of the last New Hyde Park/Garden City Park School Board meeting that New York State Senator Michael Balboni was able to make arrangements to obtain a $25,000 grant for the district. However, when Balboni's chief of staff James Sherry arrived at the meeting to present the ceremonial check, he announced that the senator had just contacted him and he was able to upgrade the grant to $50,000. The grant will be used to further implement the mandated state project SAVE, to make sure children are "safe" in the schools and it will be used specifically to defray the cost of the expensive mandated door locks required throughout the district schools.
The New Hyde Park Village held the second of two informational Operation Downtown meetings on a recent Saturday. Few people attended, but those who did were concerned and interested in the plans that were proposed and displayed for the revitalization of Jericho Turnpike in New Hyde Park.
